Hey Pengu just a question
where are you staying in China, in hong kong or here in Shenzhen? There reason I ask is that I live outside the SEZ of shenzhen, literally a stone throw out but the house prices drop by like 75% out here. So if you were to come to visit my house you would need to bring your passport to go through the second customs to get here. Not a big deal and they rarely check you but if they do and you don't have it you are screwed. I suppose I will probably go into the SEZ to meet you.
So far as the massage goes I was just joking about that. Anyone who has been to China will understand that one. Anyways, keep me posted I am excited to shred with someone again. My roomate used to shred but he has moved out and all he shreds now is video games. He is a beastly master of PS2.
Mike I suppose you can tell I am excited to footbag with someone again.

Hey all, I had two sessions yesterday. Infinites were at 27 in a row last night. I was able to link ripwalk both sides last night so that is what I want. I was trying to go osis ripwalk osis but a little difficult for me right now to get a clean set out of it yet.
Did the blur session last night two. I hit one flip blur so that makes me really excitied. regular blur was so so no consistancy. Paradox mirage to tap is getting really comfortable.
Also they opened a skate shop in my district so that is nice since I never have to go down to the main shopping district to pick up clothes out here anymore. They are some nice young cantonese boys and will get anything I want. Man I love the factory seconds here so cheap like five canadian for a t-shirt. They will getting me in some nice slax so I can use them for work which is much better then wearing dress pants.
I hope you all had a good weekend and shredded to your potential.

Hi Mike,
I'm fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin, but I can't read or write Chinese very well. I haven't visited Shenzhen since I was 10 though, so I couldn't tell you where I will be located. I'll ask for details when the time draws nearer. I'm supposed to be visitinig an auntie before the wedding in HK. Either way, cabs are cheap so it'd be cool to meet somewhere. I'm not too comfortable visiting someone whom I've never met's apartment on my own, although a friend of Brett's shouldn't be so bad eh? Being a girl, my sense of direction isn't the strongest either. We'll talk about this again later and I know the details of my trip.
I feel out of place in China. I admire you being able to live there. I hate crowds.... and lines.... and no central heating..... I guess I'll be shredding in long johns. I'll keep in mind the passport thing. I wonder where we'd find a good warm shred spot. They'd probably kick us out of a mall huh?

Pengu,
I admire myself to for living here dealing with people. Just kidding the chances here are good for work much better chances then I could ever have in Canada.
Long Johns ????? You never have been here in the winter have you. It will be about 15 to 20 when you are here. It never gets below 0 here in the winter but it can rain alot. Shred in the mall you would be run over by people. That is cool, we can find a park but they might throw us out. That is another I shred at home. If you need a character reference about me you can ask sen or my boy campbell. I think that they can vouch that I am a good guy. Also my wife is very curious about you she has never met a chinese from outside of china. If you have time here I would love to take you around town. If you can speak both then you will have no problems here. I can cover the reading I am semi fluent in it. I can read about 1000 most common 2000 thousand characters. I will probably know more than that by the time you come. I am excited. Let me know more when you know.
PS if you trying to teach mosher mandarin well it isn't that easy. I speak, write and read three other languages (french, russian, ukrainian) and mandarin is by far the hardest language I have ever learned.
See you in December

Mike,
Oh man, I've been reading your blog a lot lately, and I love how consistent you are in your training! Makes me want to visit China again sometime soon. I'm Cantonese, but also suffer from reading or writing the language. My father is planning on going back to China to fix up his old home, so heplans on flying there somewhere from a few months to next year I think. I'm sure to meet you around then, and have fun playing footbag.
Get well now. Congee sucks I'm sure, especially with liver and whatever in it, but it helps for the healing process. I can tolerate it because I grew up on it.
You can always order plain white congee, and get brown sugar packs somewhere hopefully. Getting sick in China isn't very fun, and my last visit there I caught a stomach flue variant. Bad times.

Practiced again last night. Osis record was at five, that is a little disappointing as I was hoping to keep it up around the eight level but I suppose that is what happens when you do not practice it everyday. Did torques last night and was able to hit one on my strong side and two in a row on weak side. I have a few questions about this that I will post in the next paragraph.
There are two problems I have with my strong sided torque. One is often seem to hit the bag with my foot as I am in the motion of going over the bag. I will be above the bag but as i turn I will hit it with my foot. However when that does not happen I seem to be overshooting the osis part. The bag is there but it is behind my osising foot. If anyone has any helpful words or practical advice with these problems I have please post here.
My flip torques seems like less of a jumping move to me and alot easier. I do not suffer from the problems like that on it.
Speaking about sufferring my shoulder blade is killing me. I dunno I woke up monday morning and it was sore and for the past three days it has been sore I am not sure why that is but it is annoying. Maybe I will skip my session tonight and go to the blind man for a massage and see if they can get that knot out.
I hope you all have a great day and shred to your potential.

That sounds a lot like my torques. I have noticed that my flip torque is easier to hit than my other side. You said that you are overshooting the osis. I think you mean undershooting, if the bag is behind your osising foot. Anyway, I think that your problem might be the same as mine. I noticed that when I try torques, I jump too much. You said that your flip torques seem like less of a jump. Try to repeat that movement on your strong side, stressing the NO jump part. Also, I notice that sometimes I will sort of jump foward, towards the bag, and not twist to the side. I think this makes it harder to complete the trick because I am trying to complete a 180, AND advance foward. Just try to set straight and 180. If that makes any sense.hotstepper wrote: There are two problems I have with my strong sided torque. One is often seem to hit the bag with my foot as I am in the motion of going over the bag. Practiced whirls last night. I did 500 of them. Strong was at 6 in a row while I was able to get 4 in a row on weak. Not bad, I just did not have the motivation to try blurry whirl last night. It was a ninety minute session and that is where I want to be for time and it was the first time I was able to do that since getting over my chest cold which is nice.
Otherwise, yesterday was an ok day. I was able to get a new pair of pants from the skate shop. Some zoo york kinda dress pants without the pleets in the front. I like that only problem is the zoo york logo is big and gold on one of the ass pockets. Oh well I will try to remove it.
My back is still bothering me but it is getting better. Stupid made of stone chinese mattresses!
I hope you all have a great day and shread to your potential

Hey all. It hit 24 infinites in a row last night then moved on to ripwalk. I can hit back to back on both sides now fairly easily, however, I do not like the form or style of it. I am not working on holding the delay at the end of the ripwalk instead of setting it straight into the next move. I hope that this will clean up my form. It is something I noticed that Allan Haggat does alot when he warms up so I think it is probably a good idea. I used it for my osis and it worked really well so I don't think it can hurt my ripwalk either.
Ok as for another journier around china, max, if you are going to Hong Kong from the mainland of China I am about 99.9 percent sure you will have to come through shenzhen. It is the link city between hong kong and mainland China. I will PM about it shortly. However, since so many of you seem to want to travel here just pm for my mobile (cell, for undecated north americans) number. You can call it anytime and be able to get a hold of me. Max, I won't be able to take anytime off while you are here, which is too bad, since it is too close to my holiday time when I will be returning to Canada but if you are here on a Sunday/Saturday I would love to show you around. Internet access is stupdily easily to find here and really cheap. So is buying a chinese sim card if you a have a molie already. I think it will be really easy for you to contact me. I have an air mattress so if you need a place to crash for a night or two you are welcome to stay at my place. I will just clear it with the wife first, I can't see her having a problem. She is always curious about foreigners and if you bring pictures of germany with you she would love it. Hint, Hint - now you know who the real master of my house is. So max, if I do not have to pm you before you leave please PM me and that will remind me too. It is the busy season right now for product development so I have alot of meetings and things along those lines to go to.
I hope you all have a great day and shred to your potential,

Pretty poor session last night. I was able to get through paradox mirages no problem and no problem with tap but I was distracted with work from my business so I only schooled for about 30 minutes. I suppose it is good to let your body rest.
That is about it for now. Nothing else new and exciting here.

Sessioned whirl yesterday. I did two sessions four hundred in each session. My high was five in a row on strong side and 3 on flip. Once again I am trying to slow the move down and hold the delay at the end since my common problem is that I am not stalling the delay so the control is not there. I hope that this will remedy the problem.
Otherwise besides thing being stupid here in China. Like today the rearrangement of our office and the fact that I don't have a wall for my cubicle now really pisses me off as I have to spend too much time now with the bosses pa who is a mean and nasty person who now spends all her time spying on what I am doing. I have demanded a wall hopefully tomorrow I get my wall back there was no reason to remove the wall.

I practiced again last night. I just did not have as much energy last night as I had on sunday so the session was a little sloppy. I was able to hit seventeen infinites in a row and was able to hit ripwalk back to back both sides with full delays(stalls) on each side. The fact that I was able to hold it compose myself and then do the ripwalk again really excited me since it is demonstrating that I am reaching my goals of controlling moves not just flowing with what comes and having uncertainty in my moves.
I got my wall back today and that is nice I have my privacy back so I can slack at work a little again. By slacking I really mean studying chinese. That is what I do when I have nothing else to do at work since I need here and I always need to be improving my chinese constantly. That is a never ending battle. Sure I can speak well and I can read and write ok but the true test is being able to do it correctly without grammatical errors and that is what I am working on.
On a side note my fiancee and I got permission to get married in Hong Kong yesterday. That is great, not only because I love her, but that it bypasses alot of useless paperwork here and the oral test you have to take or complete before marriage here on the mainland. Needless to say that I am happy about that.
I hope you have a great day and shred to your potential

Sessioned twice yesterday I am trying to get into morning sessions again. Last night I hit nine osis in row last night and i hit two torques on both sides. I am still sufferring throught the same problems with torques as I had talked about earlier in my blog.
This morning I started to skool swirls. I was able to hit 3 on my regular side but none on flip I suppose it will come with time. I have to plan out a morning sessions that don't make alot of noise so if anyone has any ideas for quiet types moves. I think spinning will find its was into the morning practice along with diving no planting clipper. Any other ideas are welcome. Maybe some far moves also.

Hey everyone,
I skooled whirls last night. I only did three hundred last night. My regular was fine with strings of three fairly consistantly. However, weak last night was weak. I was only able to manage hitting one in a row and my timing was really off, really off being an understatement. It was frustrating me alot to the point where I just had to walk away last night. I hate when that happens.
Thank you everyone for your feedback I will go through what you sent me sand wraith this morning and come up with morning drill routine after that. Once again, I welecome people to post their thoughts, questions about China and helpful advice here.

Ni hao Mike,
What was that you said about having to do an oral test before getting married in China?
Do you like to watch Chinese tv series? I've watched quite a few, 'Da Zhai Men' was my favourite, I highly recommend it, your wife would probably know it.
Also you said you will be going back to Canada, when will that be? Cause I'm probably going to be moving to Shanghai at the end of next year.

What was that you said about having to do an oral test before getting married in China?
Do you like to watch Chinese tv series? I've watched quite a few, 'Da Zhai Men' was my favourite, I highly recommend it, your wife would probably know it.

Missed my session last night. However, I hit up a morning sessions of swirls. I plan to keep that up. Nothing to really but I hit one on each side, I have never been clear on the difference between swirl and swivel nor do I care. I will just say that it was my natural motion.
Headed back to Saskatoon, well not really, for Canadians on here they should get that one. 30 days and counting until I am back in my home and native land. The great white north true and free and for a while at least away from China. That excites me, I think right now I am burning out on China. It has been two years here so I need a rest. Since I came here I have adopted the insane chinese working lifestyle which means I have not had more then three days off in a row in two years. I suppose that I am just looking forward to a rest. Then back to China. I hope for the last time. There is a strong chance that I will be transferred next year to hong kong. That would be alright, I really don't like hong kong because it is too expensive but hey there is a whole lot of western things there. For example, cul-de-sac restauruant which offers poutine. I suppose it is a give and take thing.
So far as Chinese tv goes, I rarely watch tv so watching chinese tv is definately on the bottom of the list. I like the cheating show that is cool where they go out and confront people who are cheating on their spouces of bringing shame to their family in some way but that is the only one I watch. There are usually brawls and that is interesting. Chinese women are violent by nature so there on some good cat fights on there. Otherwise, I stay away from the chinese tv.
I hope you all have a good day and shred to your potential
