The Best
The Best
"the idea of becoming one of the best in the sport isn't ludacris."
this is from jhonny and i thought it was a really good point, unlike many sports with college and pro levels, footbag is mainly 1 or 2 levels, it gives people a lot of confidence, making them think they can become the best, does anyone here play just because they know that one day they will or may be the best, or is it just for fun?

I am well aware I could become he best if I wanted to. At times I have thought about it... but the reality is that would take a lot more practice than I currently input, and I don't want it bad enough, I'd burn out.
So for the moment, I'm playing to get better. As long as I'm progressing, meeting cool people, and enjoying shred, then I'll play. I would like to get to a very high level, but I won't ever become the best.

To be the best, Vasek put in 8 hours of footbag on many days...I'm not willing/able to put that much time into it.
I just want to get really good.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't be the best if I wanted, but I don't just play for fun either. There's lots of things more fun to me in the short-term than footbag, but I like sweating and I like the progress. In the long run, it's a lot more fun seeing the progress and feeling like I'm actually getting good, so I guess I play to have fun.

Yeah I often think I could be the best, but then I realise even if I was to buy a gun and fly all around the world shooting all the players better than me in the knee caps, I think I'd just burn out.
Having shredded with Jamie, there is no reason Jamie could not become the bestif he decided thats really what he wanted to do. Its not a matter of "just wanting to", the wanting is the hardest part - because it doesn't just refer to thinking"you know I'd like to be the best at this" it refers to wanting it enough to shape you're whole life around that single goal.

No. Jamieson will never be the best. Period.
I guess what I meant to say was not everyone could be the best, EVEN IF they changed their lives to revolve around it aka train hardcore 8 hour days. I just find it rather annoying when people say "they could" when I truely believe that some people just don't have it.

I agree, not everyone has it. But a lot do. Ok late night rant time...
I thought "I don't want to be best, I just want to have the most fun"
But then I thought "I still want everyone else to have fun, but it would be cool to have the most fun"
I know you are all having a great time with footbag, or you wouldn't be posting here.
I say, try to be the one who has the most fun. Look at Vasek he's won more shit than I can count. Do you think he still competes because he has something to prove? Hell no. If he wasn't having fun, I don't think he would keep it up. Why bother? Because there is shit like QATW, Tripstein, 6-dex moves and 10-add moves to be hit that's why! If I had Vasek's skills I would just shred as much as I could. Competitions and crap like that would just be a perk.
#1 footbag goal: HAVE FUN. Always.

Ya, doing tricks that the top players can do HAS to be more fun than the tricks I can do.

Not anyone can. Vasek and mulroney were like... the 2 that really could, even if they didnt try that hard. They just had something in their genes that made footbag click. Felix was telling me, and someone else that vasek really didnt play for 8 hours a day. It was more like 1 hour a day. His crank and body type play A HUGE part in his skill.

I agree that not just any one can be the best. People also forget that in footbag as in everything people can hit plateaus. It is conceivable a player could be one of the top 25 footbaggers in the world and yet no matter how much they practiced then make the leap to first.
Lots of people like to feel like they are special. That they can do anything they put their mind to and that the only thing that holds them back is effort and perseverance. IMHO the vast majority of these people are wrong.

Actually, I think a lot of times effort and perseverance is what makes people special.
