Kyle from Mich

Post by kyle »

Lately its been about 110F, so I've started this blog to motivate myself to shred through the heat. lol Well, I'm KyleMoery and I'm living in Waterford Michigan and attending Oakland University. I've been playing hack for about two years now and after learning some of the biggest hacky sack tricks, I got involved in footbag. Currently my legs are retarded to most double dex's, but I'm workin' on it. Image My current goal is to improve my consistency, I'm shooting for a 90% success rate on all my basic 1-3 add moves.

Around eleven it started to cool off to about 100F - lol - so I turned on the lights and tunes in my garage and tossed the hack up. It didn't take long to realize that I was zapped from the heat. I could hardly jump and bending my knees felt like I weighed an extra 50 pounds. :? I carried on anyways until I felt a sharp pain in my neck - all that jumping about on the cement had taken its toll. Good news is the ice pack on my neck feels great! :D

For the last week now I've been playing everyday for an hour or four :D - and let me tell you, I've been getting a lot better. Not only have I greatly improved the consistency of my clippers and butterflies, but I've also discovered a stronghold of tricks within myself consisting of osis, gyro and surging thanks to anz's trick vids. These building blocks have opened up a whole world of tricks for me. After I get them down pact, expect to see new four and five add moves out of me.

I've been out of a hack for the last few weeks. I had loaned it to a friend who has since learned clippers and the butterfly. :) Yesterday, I got a new 32 panel zeb jackson bag in the mail. :D Now my legs are aching, lol. Since I'm not using a dead sand bag anymore, I should be able to perfect my bop. :)

I finally got around to playing in public for a change and it was great. :D There's a nice rec center on campus here, and it happens to have a carpeted workout area that’s perfect for shredding. I played for a solid hour, making sure to take breaks to walk, stretch and just play hack to loosen up. I had several 20 contact, stalling strings averaging around 2 adds with a big variety of tricks. :) I managed to impress at least a few people too - one guy said 'its amazing that you can do that'. So I told him a bit about my hobby. I essentially got the workout of my life and now I've got a soccer game in one hour.

on more thing...you said you got surging set down..props! but you said its a building block....last time i checked...surging sets are NOT building blocks......great job though. thats sweet. keep at it and dont hurt you spinal vertebret, thats what it sounds like when you say a sharp pain in the neck because of playing on cement....

Yep, freshman at OU. I'm commuting from waterford, but I've been hanging out on campus all day monday and wendsday for soccer. I'm just playing in the intramural soccer league since I don't want to commit myself to hours of practice and traveling on one of the club teams. It'd be great to kick with some new people, I've been meaning to get with the michigan footbag club but I had been holding out till I got the basics down. If you want to come out to OU, just let me know. I can do 3-5 this friday and 3-6 next monday - or I can pretty much just drive out there whenever.

It was more of a hard jolt than anything serious, but ya, since then I've done my best to avoid cement - only playing on it casually for short periods of time.

Worst session ever.
Couldn't hit crap. Leg overs and pickups were giving me hell! wtf is that??? I was skooling them yesterday! The cold must be getting to me cause my limbs were stiff and my strings were like 3 contacts at best.

This sucks because usually I play outside in my garage, and I don't really have enough room to play inside my house. I'm going to have to find someplace local where i can play in warmth, and i have no idea where i could do that at. :?

Anyways, here’s a few drills i want to work on-
mirage>pick-up>rpt
illusion>leg-over>rpt
par mir>duck butter>rpt
par leg>oasis>duck clip>rpt
par ill>clip>par pick>clip>rpt
Currently i'm throwing in way too many toe stalls during my runs. I’ve been using them after just about any 3+ add move to regain my composure. With these drills I'm hoping to work towards a tiltless style that allows me to link moves without defaulting to a toe stall.

Got back from the New Years Jam in Chicago just the other day, and what ah blast. :D Lotta fun was had kicking from dawn to dusk for three days strait. I met a ton of great people and played w/ some awesome shredders. My technique drastically improved between day one and day two, as I started pulling lots of smooth tiltless runs w/out toe bails. I got a bunch of usefull tips and I even learned a couple of new tricks. :D Also, I snaped my new avatar in the McCormick Place hotel. It was on a fire hazard sign, but being a bit tipsy and all, it sure as hell looked like a flaming clipper to me. I'll definetely be going back for next year's event - err wait, I mean this years event  - and maybe a couple other events.

It was great meeting Kyle, I really feel bad about the bag you lost(and for everyone who lost a bag). Midwest Regionals over the summer usually, a retarded "event" that took place here last year, and hopefully takes place in the city this year too.

After you left(at night) I was at the shred room and Kolo took some of Zeke's rope, tied his shoe to it, threw it accross to the window ledge, and got one of the bags off the ledge, it was a sandbag, the other two wouldve taken too long, guess you can wait for next year. Funny as hell to witness.

I went down to Indianapolis last weekened, and hooked up w/ some footbagers. :D We kicked around circle monument in downtown for almost three hours. I was playing great and had several nice 20+ contact tiltless strings. My better tricks still haven't worked there way into my runs, but i'm doing a good deal of diving and ducking variations for style. There were lots of people out enjoying the good weather and casually watching us shred, and considering i usually kick in my basement, i felt like i was Vasek playing in the middle of Denmark. :D

Here's Dustin, Carlos, and me after the shred-

Today I had the best session ever. :D For the last few months the only basic downtime components that have been missing from my game were dlo, torque, & drifter. So I spent the whole day depicting each move. I worked on symple legovers, symple osis, and getting that set leg down as fast as possible for a swift mirage. Well it all payed off, I sealed dlo, torque, and drifter - all set from toe - twice each, aswell as footing each move multiple times. :D I only hit these when they were set from my stronger right toe, so tomorrow i'm going to work on my left toe set so i can nail each of these moves on both sides. Pretty soon i'll have all of the basic downtime components in my pocket. :)

-Also my flip stepping just magically went from 'crappy rip-walk only' to 'better than my strong side'. I honestly have no idea how this happened. I might even be able to pull of flip side fog tomorrow. hehe

Cool steez yo! Hey man hope you don't think I was hating your on stepping set too much back in the online comps thread. I just honestly thought it looked slurry/sketchy and was trying to provide positive feedback. But if it's working for you, rock on. Good job on developing your flip. I just started hitting flip stepping myself, it's blur-only at the moment, but I've footed countless flip ripwalks.

Props on hitting DLO, torque and drifter all in one session and all from toe, that is nuts!! I've been schooling the shit out of DLOs for the past few months and have gotten pretty good at them. Unfortunately, I've been trying drifter and the occasional torque for a while now with no luck. It's been frustrating.

I really like your idea of working on doing mirage as fast as possible in order to sneak in the clipper/osis at the end. I'm definitely going to try that next session. Note to self. FAST mirages.

For those new moves I hope you are doing both sides! BSOSing DLO feels soooo good. Also, they are all suppposed to be easier from clipper. Surprising to see you hit them all from toe. Perhaps school the crap out of near mirage? That helped me a ton for DLOs, just hit clip > mirage > rpt switching sides for like 20-30 contacts to warm up each session.

EDIT: oh yeah and while you're working on DLOs, go for Eggbeaters! (illusioning legovers downtime). They are sooooo fun and they look super sexy. Eggbeaters, definitely definitely take the time to learn eggbeaters. They are a very similar concepts to DLOs, good to learn them at the same time.

Dude, i just hit DLO for the first time today after footing it a bunch of times a few days ago.

Haven't really worked on torque or drifter, but i guess i could.

You've learned so many new tricks quick!

Oh, and i agree with Ben, hit eggbeater, its one of the coolest looking 3 adds besides drifter IMO.

Sweet dude. :D - I shreded for like 5 minutes today. Hit dlo first try. :D I went for fog too, but I was just too tired after playing like 8 hours of basket-ball over the weekened.
