Probably the only shredder of all fLemmings
That solo session wasn't too bad. 1h, some 10-ish runs, 19 BOP, 25 infinities. Some cool tripless combos, ducking butterfly BSOS.
Schooled basics and stall precision too, and cleaned up flip illusion.
Need to work on flip symposium whirl. It boggles my mind, while hitting it strongside is no biggie

Couldn't resist getting in a session (1h30) yesterday evening, although I was a little anxious because I did like a 110 km bike ride earlier yesterday and I felt pretty sore.
I still had my best session since my comeback, whatever that may mean.
-18 consecutive osi (record 28 )
-7 tripless (record 8, all shuffle though)
-39 BOP (record somewhere around 60-70?)
-some 10-ish runs
-whirl>pdx illusion (rpt) into a run, which is nice because during an earlier session I had been cleaning up my illusions.
-fairy ss mirage (rpt) into a run

1h sesh yesterday. I decided to dust off some combos from my ancient challenge list and finally hit:
-30 tiltless (3 times in a row).
Jeremy probably came up with this challenge within a matter of split seconds, but it has given me a great deal of grief since.
-stepping refraction (BS). You may not think it, but it's a harder trick than you might expect AND a LOT cooler too. I'm considering putting it in my runs. A belated thank you, Blackend!

Sweet evening session in Brussels yesterday. The Brussels shred scene seems to be booooming, as the number of new faces I see every week has now increased from 1 to 2... and we actually had to make two circles (which is always a good indication).
New face number one: Sam, guy in leather shoes. Instantly earned my sympathy by coming to the practice by bike
. Apparently he's been playing on and off for about a year and, in spite of the doubtful shred viability of his shoes, he pulls off some easy guiltless and most of all FAIRY DYNO
. That's a fucking five, and a sweet one too. I had a go at it too and footed it.
New face number two: Jesse, German bloke with Australian roots who went to an American high school (and thus acquainted with Jan Zimmerman). He told me he's been kicking for aaaaages, but never really got good enough (in his own opinion) to actually declare himself a freestyler. The white on his lavers is indeed suspiciously bright. Still I thought he hit some good shit. Osis BSOS, symposium mirage, toe dlo. Okay clippers, pickups, tons of consecutive legovers.
I'm digging Alex' style more and more. He does his butterflies very relaxed and low, almost without the hop in the middle. Kind of like Lon does sometimes. I think he is getting pretty bothsided on his clippers too. He and Jul are into the fine art of stitching. At the practice Alex finished a gorgeous white/light blue bag that has unfortunately come out quite small. It will make a fine kickee bag though, and perhaps even a full-fledged shred bag once the fabric loosens up.
Jul then gave birth to a super cool bag, shready right off the needle. I believe it's only his third but I must say, those Parisiens did a freaking nice job teaching him how to stitch. I would give money for that bag which is saying a lot
, so I kindly informed if he takes orders already. Also saw him hit datw easily (he confided us he's 1/2 dex away from a triple
), nice midstring fairy butterflies etc., long strings with an occasional guilt. I think weaving butterfly was a first for him.
Max had a good feeling about the session, which I think is more important than any trick/link one hits. Also I want to leave his highlights up to him as I invariably tend to mess them up
. Still I'm quite sure he hit PS egg.
As for me, I did a couple sweet runs ranging in the 10-20 area. Quite some BOP but I feel I'm slowly getting back more or less where I left footbag. The coolest sensation was the feeling of 'playing' footbag again in stead of 'doing' footbag or 'working' with the bag.
-3.5 contacts of rubberman (I find that combo so exhausting I can hardly believe some people double the downtime dexes or replace the atomic with nuclear just for the fun of it)
-pixie muted clipper>pdx mirage (rpt) into a run
-footed fairy dyno, as mentioned before
-close to fairy muted clipper>pdx mirage (rpt), but fucked up the last contact.
-EDIT: here's an afterthought, torque BSOS should be in this list as well.
OKAY, this is a pretty long post. As the length of my posts reflects the size of the Belgian shred scene, I would say things are changing for the good
.

Just a tiny post about my tiny session yesterday evening.
30 minutes of kickee, mainly drills and basics.
-22 BOP
-ripwalk *7
-again torque BSOS
Then today I went on a bike ride and managed to get hopelessly lost far far away from home. So this poor lonesome cowboy rode 125 km all by himself. He's pretty exhausted so all shred energy has been shot to hell for today

I love that feeling! It has only struck me a few times in my career though....Wim wrote:The coolest sensation was the feeling of 'playing' footbag again in stead of 'doing' footbag or 'working' with the bag.
125 km? That's... that's damn lost. REALLY damn lost.

The plan was to go bagging with the Brussels crew today, but as it was pouring AGAIN (hurrah for good old Belgian weather) I couldn't get myself to take the 20 min bike ride to the train station.
So I set out on an errand through the house in search of a suitable shred spot. Now you have to know I live in a BIG house these days, but with few/no rooms that are suitable for footbag.
The thought of using the kitchen had for some reason never occurred to me before, but after having moved aside some furniture I got myself a nice 3 x 4 metre surface that proved just big enough for a good sesh.
-ripwalk *10 (record: 12)
-41 BOP
-'gyro' clipper BSOS
-ripwalk>barrage>butterfly (repeat)
-fairy clipper>pdx mirage (repeat) into 12 more (mainly BOP) contacts. Oh yeah, this is in my challenge list. Should get that updated too!
-spinning butterfly BS
-footed vortex BS
Can you be any closer to hitting a trick?
-close to another challenge that involves dlo. I finally recoverd dlo (both toe and clip set) after my comeback. The point where I consistantly fucked up was forgetting to keep my feet close together. Fixed that thanks to Max. Thanks Max!

Had a little kitchen jam yesterday (1h30). I had compiled a list beforehand of about 20 3/4 add tricks that I have for some reason always been inconsistent at or that have always eluded me. I was mainly gonna focus on that list throughout the session, with an occasional sidestep to a drill or a run.
The result was sad! I failed to hit every single one of them
. Still I didn't feel too bad about that, as most of them are pretty hard tricks.
So I shifted attention to some sexy sets (that I also made a list of
). I tried for sailing, frantic, fusing, flailing, nuclear, quasi, barraging and surging.
Surging is totally out of the question. My gyro feel has to improve x1000 before I'll ever try it again.
I had hit some cool stuff out of nuclear before and, as I had expected, I felt that a little more skooling should allow me to put some nuclear midstring.
Sailing and barraging feel doable but need a lot more work.
Frantic and fusing are fucking hard! I got a few frantic up to crotch height but by the point I got my legs back safely on the ground, the bag was on its way down already, which made it impossible to hit anything out of it.
Flailing is, together with nuclear, the most natural set to me. I had hit frontside legbeater before and this time I went for FRONTSIDE ATOM SMASHER, which I hit! Whoooohooooo. Couldn't hit it flipside, but still I was stoked at my first new trick in MONTHS!
Other highlights included:
-21 osi (record 28 )
-torque BSOS
-4 contacts of rubberman (got past the second atom smasher which is traditionally the point where I choke, so the complete drill should be very much possible)
-spinning osis BSOS (in a 12 contacts run, which was one of my longest runs
)
-spinning butterfly BSOS. I'm really getting the hang of this trick, which happened pretty much accidentally. Here's the story: I used to bail to osis after spinning clipper as my spinclips were pretty unbalanced (so I sorta continued the spinning motion after completion of the spinclip). About a week ago I set myself a challenge. From then on I tried to do spinclip>ss butterfly, which helped me to stop the spin when I was supposed to. From then on my spinclips got a lot better. Coincidentally there were many occasions when I messed up the tricks in my brain and did spinning butterfly instead of spinclip>ss butt
, which boosted up my spinbutts that at this point rock harrrd!
Shred in Brussels tomorrow.

Shred in Brussels tomorrow.
Here's a write-up from the Brussels kick at the Alternative Sports Summer Week on Monday.
The ASSW is a one week event that is organised every year in summer - but that information can sorta be derived from the name of the event I guess. It hosts a number of freestyle sports like frisbee, bmx, rollerskating and footbag. Yay!
It was raining off and on all day on Monday so all day long I was in doubt whether I was to take the trip downtown Bxl (I wasn't sure we'd be able to kick at all). In the end I did go and didn't regret.
By the time I got there Justin (it was so cool to see him again) and Jul were kicking on a 2 m² square by the changing rooms, which was quite sad. Fortunately, Seb had negotiated an indoor spot in a sports hall before I'd had time to slip on my lavers.
The indoor spot was way cooler. Good exposure (whoever was near was chased into the hall by the rain), a lot more space and a good surface (a regular sports hall floor with a thin layer of sand on it
: it worked amazingly well).
It seems that every year (for the third year in a row) footbag attracts more people.
-the event gets bigger every year, probably
-our team get more skilled. And confident about those skills.
-as time goes by, people are more likely to have some familiarity with footbag
So yeah, representing footbag is gradually more fun. On Monday I didn't actually instruct anyone (which is the idea behind the event); I think it's best to leave that to the people whose French is better than mine
. I just played in a circle, mostly with Jul, Justin and Seb. Didn't get to play with Alex and Sami who were there too.
On the level of footbag proper no actual highlights from my part come to mind. My overall feeling was good, and that I estimate higher than anything these days.
I'm going back on Thursday, hopefully to pull off some more cool stuff.
