Some good points there. Thanks. I am continuing to relearn the wavedash with the L trigger, which is going surprisingly well. It still isn't natural feeling, but it's getting more consistent at least. That's mostly how I spent the afternoon: wavedashing and listening to music.

My knees felt much better today, but then my p.t. had me do this resistence work that was like a kicking motion on this machine, but that had resistence on both the upswing and the downswing. I was supposed to go as fast as I could without pain (this is after I told him about yesterday's happenings). My knees feel fine but I know that was a lot of stress to put on them, especially since the right one hurt just 24 hours prior. Even if my knees don't hurt, my shins kinda do at the moment (like I ran a lot). o.0 Hoping for the best....

Heh, I've read it's marked by her eye (the bigger one), but they're really close so it shouldn't make a big difference. Thanks for all the tips, by the way. ;) I'm having a lot of fun progressing at smash, though I'm sure I'll drop the practicing almost entirely once footbag gets back into the picture.

My knees didn't feel bad today at all. They feel used, but that just means they're repairing from the p.t. yesterday.

Work was odd. Everything was normal until about 10:50, when we were cleaning the yearbook room: the last room that remains to be cleaned. Suddenly the head janitor jogs by yelling that all the lights have to go out. Dave (one of the real janitors) came and turned the lights out, to which Jake asked what we should do. Dave said we could go to sleep for all he cares... so we did. I dragged five chairs together, putting four in a line and sticking the fifth next to me so I could lay my arm out on it. We sat there in the dark somewhat talking and somewhat falling asleep for about 20 minutes. The janitors came in once or twice because there's a room adjoined to the back of the classroom with a circuit breaker in there. We found out that one of the two power stations that supplies most of Wisconsin went down (I found out later more about it: one generator was down for maintenance and the other was close to browning out), and that we had to cut almost all of our power use or the utilities would shut our power off. They also said that any large power users -- grocery stores, factories, department stores -- had to do similarly, and that many were shutting down for the day. About ten minutes after this exchange the main janitor came by and told us to go home; we couldn't do anything else.

So I got home at 11:30, ate, showered, then slept. Practiced smash for a while too. Wavedashing is coming along.

Brian came by and we played 1v1 for a while-- maybe an hour or an hour and a half. Wow have my Falco and Jiggly improved! The first match I 6 stocked Brian-- 7 to 1. Most of the other matches were closer, especially when I was Marth or Mario, but I was Wall of Paining him somewhat effectively at Jiggly and my Falco was speedy, aggressive, and combo-rific. I have to say I'm liking how my Falco is developing. I want to get my wavedashing back up to a high level and then move onto waveshining, as I think that'd make setting up air combos easier. Pillaring also needs some practice.

This is the most I've posted in a while. Massive wordage :/

More p.t. I got really dizzy during the machine stuff and had to quit. That disappointed me. Out of shape? Didn't eat enough? I don't know; it was a really good workout though, so perhaps it was unavoidable, though I think not.

Worked on l-cancelling a lot, because I suck at it hard. I'm starting to like Fox a lot, mostly due to his sweet shine. Falco's blaster makes me want to stick with Falco though. Torn.

In more important news, the p.t. says I might be able to kick lightly in 1.5 to 2 weeks, which would mostly be just fairy set practice.

Here's to a speedy recovery. You should take up juggling (if you can't already) while you can't freestyle. It's a great way to pass the time when you can't use your legs!

Or you could just read a book..Ha.

tiger hand! rawr!

Super edit of lameness (abandon hope: there's nothing interesting in this edit): Did some thinking on the Falco / Fox thing and decided to stick with Falco. I love Fox's shine combo beauty, but I think Falco fits my style more. I <3 blasters. =D Did research on Falco; I'm currently reading a guide on him. Worked a bit on reverse blasting, wavedashing, and shffled dair > shine combos. My l-cancelling is really coming along.

Also, in the last week or two I've made a couple footbag breakthroughs, I think, as far as positioning of my feet for toe moves and dexing motions that optimize speed and control. While I can't say they definitely are right, the more I think about them the more they seem to have been obvious-- right in front of me in videos and thought. I hope they'll make as much of a difference in my game as I anticipate... whenever that will be.

Mowed the lawn. Then I rode my rusty bike. Actually, mom's bike. The gears sometimes don't change right. Plus, it creaked. People watched as I rode by. Rode a lot. Actually, probably more than I should.
Knees feel fine. I hope they will tomorrow too. Hard to say. It was a lot of stress. For the knees. Assuming no pain, I'll bike again. Probably tomorrow afternoon.

I also played a lotta smash. Are you surprised? I worked pillaring, wavedashing, and SHFFLing. They need practice. I feel like I'm improving though. Also watched Mariotality. It's on youtube if you search. Really cool stuff. I might make Mario another main. :P I'm so capricious. I've always liked Mario's style though. He's super fun. Not too fast, not too slow. Good comboing ability. However now I'll focus on Falco. Technical stuff mostly. I want to play humans badly. But I'll wait. Back at WashU there's a group. Hopefully I'll play. It depends a lot on time.

Practiced some Smash again, but not as much as usual. My parents are complaining that I'm always hiding in my room. I could drag the gamecube downstairs but I don't think that's what they mean. Did some SHFFL work and a little wavedashing. I feel like I'm about halfway to where I want my Falco technical skills to be, and then it's all a matter of playing humans to learn when to use stuff and how to play mindgames.

Rode around 10+ miles on my bike today, mostly standing and pedaling hard. My knees felt fine after yesterday's bike session, so I'm hoping that going harder today won't hurt them either. If they do feel fine, I will try to do an hour of fairy set practice tomorrow! All depends on the knees though.

By the way, I should add that in the last couple days I've moved up to the 50th most prolific posters on modified (by total posts). Yay! As long as I don't pass HenryG I won't feel like a post whore. ^_^

wow! sounds great man!, if ur parents say to go outside cuz u play too much smash inside, do i what i did...grab an extension cord or 2... and take the tv and cube outside with you. i do that w/ friends... not alone cuz i'm bored of playing computers... they suck too much... note: they never jump out after you if u are near the end of the board, they won't jump up to get, you, only up b attacks.. and they have a nasty little habit of shield reflecting (flash shield (r/l/z) to reflect projectiles back at u)... no human does that... they also are really gay and do tons of meteor breaks... that of which humans aren't to good at either...

hope that helps

Interesting note on how computers act. I try not to play against anything but level 1s because it is supposedly bad for competitive play-- computers don't react to mindgames and can easily be "played." The only reason I play against level 1s is because you can't c-stick your aerials in training mode, so I work on SHFFLing against level 1s.

By the way, what you called the "flash shield" is called "powershielding." You can reflect any projectile and stop any attack with no lag if you pull it off, but you have to activate your shield within 1 frame of the projectile/attack hitting you-- so 1/60th of a second. Apparently some people can now do it with like 75% consistency, but not very many.

After work I played smash with Brian for a little over an hour. It was a good practice session, with me teaching Brian several techniques and several ways to make himself harder to hit. For myself, I got better at mindgames and see that my SHFFLing still isn't very good; it's hard to do it while playing because I can't concentrate on the button presses. They have to become habit.

I'm actually gonna go play some more smash at Jason's house in a few minutes. It'll be 4 person FFA though, so it won't be very good for my 1v1 play.

In big news, I played footbag for about a half hour downstairs. I didn't do any runs and didn't do any downtime dexes. I spent the whole time on fairys, and like how they're looking and feeling. I didn't spend much time on doing things out of the set but did get fairy osis bs, fairy ss osis bs, and fairy clipper bs. It was fun and my knees don't feel bad. I also did one set of 20 squats, so I'll have to see how my knees are doing tomorrow, but if they're feeling good I'll try to keep working fairys until I feel confident enough to work atomics or downtime.

Oh, and my Pipenbag came today. 8)

Well, I think I might not play for a couple days yet, as my knees didn't take yesterday as well as I had hoped. They feel mostly fine, actually, but there is a dull pain that appears intermittently and lasts several seconds. Overall, it's nice that they don't feel like shit, but I was hoping they'd survive yesterday with no pains. Like I said though: just a few days more and I'll be good for fairying.

Here's the pics of my new bag in all their uber-unsizeable pictureness:
Image
^^ the pipenbag. It's a little more ovular than spherical, but not quite as much as that picture conveys. Also, there's no discernible pattern. It sorta irked me at first but I like that now, to be honest. The bag's really sort but a wee bit lighter than I'd prefer, so I may beef it up eventually.

Image
^^ a comparison with my Mirkenbag (my favorite bag). They're close in size and I don't think the Pipenbag will get too much larger, so that's good.

In other news, last night I thought of a different controller grip that I thought would make my attacks faster: using my index finger to hit Y, middle finger to hit Z, and thumb for just B and the C-stick (for aerials). After tinkering a little, I can say that it is a lot faster, making things like ledgedrop double blasters and marth's SHDF (short hop double fair) possible. It's a bit uncomfortable at the moment, but serviceable. Then again, doing wavedashes with the L-trigger felt awkward at first too, and now that feels more natural than with the R-trigger. I'm sure that after a week of using this grip I'll be happy I chose it. Unfortunately though, Brian and I are gonna session some tomorrow, so that's gonna suck with the unaccustomed grip. Oh well, it'll help me learn it faster.

lol... u think that's a weird grip? i saw a video of a guy using only one hand to play smash, the other was occupied drinking a soda, i can show it to you, its only like a 2 second clip in a 4 minute video... so u'd have to look for it. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... hamp+combo

its at 3:19 in the video

Yeah, I've heard about that. At least, I've heard that one of the pros-- Neo, I think-- can play one-handed well enough to give most moderate players a run for their money.

I've moved on to doing lunges as knee exercise, and my knees have been feeling very well. I think I'll start fairying this weekend again, and believe I'll be able to practice those for ~30 minutes a day every other day pretty easily.

Work was uncharacteristic today. We started out by cleaning out this science room that had chemicals all over the place. As the most chemically literate among the janitors and college help (it was just Jake and me today), I directed everyone as to which chemicals were dangerous and which were harmless if spilled or whatnot. As we were doing all this, janitor John called me over and asked me if this stain on the ground was a chemical stain. As I was looking at it he pulled the emergency shower, which not-too-surprisingly was directly above me. I got like 10 gallons of water dumped on me in the course of about a second, and was soaked. I just muttered, "not cool" and proceeded about my work. While for the first 20 seconds it was like, "wtf I can't believe he did that," I almost immediately after realized I didn't mind it at all; I hadn't showered that day, so it got the grease out of my hair and it was just water anyways. It was actually kinda pleasant. Funny though, cause all the janitors thought I was really pissed off and were being very conciliatory. Apparently this is sort of a tradition-- happens every year to somebody. However, it's also a tradition to get payback.

After we were finished with that room, Jake and I were told to go clean these windows by the exits in several of the hallways. As we were cleaning the inside ones, I noticed a HUGE spider that was outside. It was literally the scariest spider I have ever seen. This is what it looked like. Dear god was it scary. Jake and I just sat there and watched it for like 10 minutes. Near it was a really small spider that had its own web. The two spiders slowly crawled towards one another and eventually began to fight! Well... I don't know how much of a fight it was. The uber-spider kicked the little one around a bit and then knocked him off his web and onto the ground. The little dude just bolted away.

Well, Jake and I still have to clean the windows-- the OUTSIDE of the windows-- so we armed ourselves and headed out. He carried with him glass cleaner, which I determined through the art of reading to be ammonium hydroxide, a strong base. I grabbed CitriSolv, a weak acid, and we prepared for battle. Jake began by trying to smother the uber-spider in a foamy coffin, but the spider retreated to a densely-strung web that hung in the corner of the wall and was just big enough to protect him. Try as we might, we couldn't knock that web down! Damn smart spider, I tell ya. I tightened the nozzle on my CitriSolv and prepared to shoot a concentrated stream of acid under the super-web and knock him to the ground. With a couple attempts the bugger was knocked loose, open to an assault of ammonium hydroxidey pain and citrisy anguish. It took over 5 minutes for the uber-spider to die, though we continually shot at him. Neither of us could work up the courage to go step on him; just looking at that spider sent shivers down my spine.

After we finally killed the spider, we started noticing all these orangish insects flying around us. We tried to figure out where they were coming from, and saw as they would crawl into holes in the ground. It was then that I realized they were wasps. :S Weeeeeell we headed inside quickly and asked the janitors if they wanted to do anything about that. They didn't... so we headed back out and cleaned the glass VERY quickly. It had been two hours since we had set out to clean the windows.

Lunch came and went and we set out to do the other set of windows. Things went smoothly, though we discovered mud wasp nests outside above the door. We spent a couple minutes throwing pieces of drywall at them to make sure there were no wasps still in residence there, then we got a hose and knocked the nests off the walls.

By this time, janitors Dave and Steve came by and said that John and the rest of the janitors were in the new gym waxing the floor, and that I should go get even. However, I felt that it wasn't getting wet that was the real zinger; it was the surprise. So Jake and I came up with a better plan: we'd wait until breaktime and get John as he was leaving the new gym. Since the old gym had just been waxed, they'd have to go through the outside doors to head to the breakroom. I got one 5-gallon pail and stood just around the corner from where they'd get out, and Jake stood around the next corner. As breaktime came, all the janitors headed out the door and Dave and Steve talked particularly loudly so I knew they were coming. It worked perfectly-- John was looking over towards the football fields and BAM! he got 5-gallons of wet watery in-your-face H2O. We laughed about it and he said how he didn't even see it coming as we were passing the next corner... BAM! nailed again. Man, the 1-2 punch was awesome. Ahhhh what a good day. We did probably 3 hours of real work that whole day....

Then I went to the dentist, but I think she may have confused "plaque" with "gums," cause she scraped the shit out of one of them. >8(

And finally, Brian and I played Smash for about 2 hours. The new grip is starting to feel much more comfortable. I can manage everything with enough consistency that it doesn't bother me much; everything, that is, except that I can't jump-cancel grab well. Strange, because I never even had to practice that; it was very natural and easy. Brian was on today, and the matches were close. It was a lot of fun duking it out and improving.

Wow, ^^ that is 1084 words. If you read that... wow. That's like a freakin essay. Sorry duder.

Thanks. :) Yeah, it's getting more natural every day, though short-hopping and jump-cancelling are still a bit on the rough side. Props on reading that whole last entry. You're a trooper.

Worked on C. Falc some yesterday, but he's too twitchy for my style. I'm looking into Mario or Doc as a second main, though my Falco still has much to work on. Comboing is getting better, but I could use some other lead-ins. Waveshining would definitely help, so that'll be on the agenda.

Played about 3 hours of smash with Brian today, ending in some anger on both sides. We resolved it later though, and hopefully will be more cognizant of that sorta thing in the future. I took a 3 hour nap later in the day. :S

Biggest news is that on Friday my p.t. and I did some jumping exercises. Actually, a LOT of jumping stuff-- about 20 minutes worth. Jumping far and holding the plant over and over, jumping towards the ceiling over and over, doing 180s over and over... and onward. Knees felt fine afterwards, but when I woke up today they felt like SHIT. Walking 10 feet to the bathroom hurt, and I was pretty afraid. Strangely, after about 20 minutes of being up they didn't hurt at all. Didn't hurt at all for the rest of the day. Tomorrow I'm hoping to put in a little fairy / rev. swirl practice.

Knees felt good today, so I began my (hopefully) every-other-day shred session plans. I played only 45 minutes and did non-jumping stuff the whole time: 30 minutes of fairy work, and then some consecutive oses and some reverse swirls. My flip fairys are nice and comfortable, but I'm still trying to get a little bit more height out of them; they go maybe 3 or 4 inches above my waist. Strongside the motion is still somewhat foreign, but I'm improving it with every attempt. Since I haven't done any clipper work in the last 3+ weeks, my oses were understandably awkward, so I worked on doing consecutives with special attention placed on controlling the link. They become much simpler when I do that. Hit ~10 each side twice, but only worked on them about 5 minutes. Reverse swirls were pretty good too. Neither side is incredibly consistent, but my strongside is still in very good shape. Practicing them every other day should make them more workable into runs. Flipside isn't hard either as long as I remember to set a bit higher and dex a bit wider than I naturally would.

Then I mowed. It wasn't bad but doing the ditch in front of our yard is a workout on the knees, so I iced afterwards.

Went disc-golfing with Brian and his parents. I played better than I probably ever have before, though I haven't played in around 2 months. I ended up beating Mr. Moeller by 1 stroke-- and he's damn good at disc golf. I scored a 12 under!

To conclude, I'm gonna make the switch to Doc. I've been playing Mario for the last week or so, but I like Doc a bit more. I'm gonna try to balance practicing between Doc and Falco, but I'll be focusing more on Doc for the next few days. I think I'm naturally drawn towards spammers for some reason. I like forcing other people to come to me; there's an inherent power in being able to determine the flow of the game-- playing as offensively or defensively as you feel.

Lastly, I've come to love the song "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield. I like the sound of it and the words really move me.
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

ya, i did the same thing
originally i used mario.. and was like omg doc is so slow... and mario recover's better... but i like doc better now cuz he is more controlling; use his up air and bair to spam them off the board, and edge guard... use his down b for recovery, and maybe 1 cape... mario used to be able to use his cape to recover, doc can't... doesn't matter, i love his bair when holding on the edge, u just control them and say, "NO! DOWN BITCH, AND NEVER COME BACK!" i fuck up my friend who plays samus like that, cuz he pwns my IC's (not cuz i suk, but cuz its statistically proven that IC's 3 worst enemies are Marth, Samus, and Peach) so i get him back with my doc...

remember one very important and under used skill of doc's: his down tilt ===== when they are over 120, it has severe knockback, and they have no idea wut the fuck hit them... there's also a combo throw that u can do w/ it, cuz it shoots them behind u, normally u'd be facing away from the edge of the board when trying to use this maneuver, if ur versing a heavy guy, down throw, then down tilt while facing towards the edge (this'll fuck them up) the key is for them to be "on u" so that the skill works. doc's down tilt has backwards knockback if u hit the guy infront of u, but if he's on u, or just behind u, he'll go the other way: forwards... so they won't see it coming if u spam it and then unleash ur fury in their face... blah

i'ma stop rambling now, peace
