Played for the first time today since posting the fundamental workout schedule about a week ago. Completed it, and for kicks, tried to hit some new stuff with the concepts I was drilling. It worked, and I'm happy.

Firsts:

DSO bs
Flip Terrage
Spinning Osis bs
Flip Legbeater
Flip Diving Clip > Ducking Clip
Consecutive Ducking Clip x 5
Consecutive Whirl x 5 bs

Good stuff. That method of drilling really works. But man, by the end I'm so tired! It feels great.

I hope the reason people haven't been posting in here is because they haven't been playing due to this rediculous heat...

Anyway, I played today. My hip is tight again, a few months ago I had a messed up tendon(I think), I really hope that it isn't becoming irritated again. My shin splint still hurts, I can't get that to go away. It blows. Injuries suck, I don't understand how some people can play for like 3 or 4 hours a day and wake up the next day pain free.

Maybe I'll play tomorrow, if not Sunday would be my next free day. If I wait until sunday perhaps my hip will be back to normal and my shin splint will chill out a bit.

What part of your hip seems to hurt? Do you stretch it especially well before beginning? Butterfly stretch, splits stretch, etc.?

It's like right where my thigh and hip meet. And I wasn't stretching for a while because I saw that thing that said don't stretch before because blah blah. When I played yesterday I warm up kicked and then I did the thigh stretch, butterfly, touch toes, and sit down with one leg crossed over the other and pulled in (I think it stretches hamstring?). I'm going to wait until sunday to play again and see how it goes.

I think I know where you're talking about. That kinda got nubbed a few times when I was doing atomics, so I started doing the butterfly stretch before sessions, and it seemed to help. Hopefully it'll help you as well. Be careful though; I think that's the area that Erik Chan injured and it never healed for him. It's probably not the same thing, but be careful with your hips. :]

By the way, my knees are feeling a lot better and the p.t. told me I could begin light jumping probably within 2 weeks (which would be full-time fairy set practice to minimize jumping). So yeah, I'll be keeping busy with Smash for the next two weeks but then-- we'll see.

I had it in my mind that I was going to try something new yesterday, i.e. a concept I don't usually train or haven't considered doing.

Anyway, I accomplished my first good Nuclear set, and hit Matador. I footed it on my flip, but still no seal.

Nice job on that Matador, Joshua.

I hit this string last night; legover>legover>mirage>butterfly>clipper mirage>legover. It was a lot of fun.

Vette, it feels good to lay down some decent strings. Props to becoming tiltless!

I'm going to take a week off, maybe these little sores are my body saying it needs a break. I'll post again then :D . Good luck to everyone else who is going to be playing next week, play extra to make up for the time I'm missing! :D

Hey Travis, is that bag in your avatar a 32 panel? It looks like it cant be. We were looking at it in chicago and were very confused!

That's a pretty-looking bag. Very pastel-y. Reminds me of Easter. :)

I'm reviving this blog once again!

I just finished my over a week break, and it was so hard to do. I hate not playing footbag for more then a few days, I always feel like I am falling behind if I don't train enough, but I need time to heal.

But, today's session kicked so much ass, I played for about 1 hour, the last 20 minutes was basically in the dark.

It was like riding a bike, everything I tried came back so naturally.

I hit flip blender, and it was one of the cleanest ones I've yet to hit.

I played guiltless a lot for the last half hour, absolutely pain-free in my hip. I don't know about the shin splints though, I think I might feel the them the tiniest bit which scares me. I bought some shred-mats a few days ago in preparation for my return. I really hope they help more with my hip/shin splints.

The best part was I ended with my best run of the night. I don't remember lots of it because it was all spontanious, but I know I had osis bsos, lots of pixies combinations, and ended with DLO>PLO>fear>hand catch. Ending with fear felt so friggen cool, I don't know if I've ever hit it during a run. It was one of those scream-out-loud "WOOHOO!" moments, that probably make my neighbors think I'm a weirdo.

Good, long session today.

Drilled toe whirls some, which helped me with my pdx whirls.

pdx whirl>pdx whirl (off foot)

Taught myself dynos, which were suprisingly natural, and although I don't have them down too solid, I think with some work I can get them clean soon enough.

Hit 4>4>4 (maybe my first 3 consecutive 4 add tricks?), which was dim walk>ripwalk>dyno>hand catch. That would make for a decent sick 3 if I ever wanted to do an online comp or something, although I'd like a different first trick other than dim walk.

And like always, I played guiltless for a while with a few pretty sweet runs.

I forgot to write I also learned paradon yesterday. 2 unique 4 adds in one day, not bad.

My body is so wussy, I have a shin splint now on my other shin (not the one that hurt previously). I'm so fucking sick of all the stupid injuries, even on the shred mats with spenco insoles and g-unit insoles all at once, my body still couldn't handle the stress. It's so discouraging to come off of a kick ass session with shin splints the next day. I guess I play to long when I play. I think I'm going to need to take another week off and heal, then come back playing like 15 minute sessions for a week, then 20, and so on.

Peace.

Hmmmm. My shins improved so much since yesterday, my legs like to play games with me. I think I'll have an easy session tomorrow, like less than an hour. If I can get my hands on a video camera and figure out how to upload it onto my computer I'm going to enter the online August competitions for novice sick1 and sick3.
I think for sick one I'm going to try to hit fog (blurry DLO), I've hit smog many times (if smog is pixie DLO), and since I started playing footbag I've always thought fog was a bad ass trick. If that doesn't go through I think I'll go for ripped warrior because I have hit that before.
For my sick three I've been thinking something like pdx whirl>torque>dyno. It might take me a bunch of tries, but I think I can eventually hit a good enough torque to hit dyno out of. Those are just some thoughts, I think it would be really friggen cool to actually follow through with them too. We'll see within the next few days.

Hahahah Zach. Thanks a lot for that one, I had no idea anyone followed this blog. I was beginning to wonder why I even wrote in it. It gives me more reason to continue posting.

I played some today, tried to do a light session but I always want to go bigger! My 45 minute session turned into like an hour and a half. I didn't feel any pain though, which was good, but I'll probably be like "son of a b**** shin splints!" in a few hours.

I'm officially borrowing my friends video camera, and if I can figure out how to get video onto my comp I'll try to do a sick 3. I don't think I can do one with pdx whirl though, they aren't strong enough yet. If all else fails I know I can hit dimwalk>ripwalk>dyno, maybe even start out with a fairy butterfly for some variety.

I hit butterfly>far legover>osis and SS dadacurve>clipper mirage>legover today. I want to enter one into the novice sick 3 comp. I think the first string is a 3>3>3 but I don't know what the other one is. Any suggestions to which one I should enter?

The first one is actually 3>2>3; far legover is only two adds. I think the second one is a lot more original, so I'd stick with that. Not a lot of people do ss dadacurves, and going to a clipper mirage from that sounds kinda styley. Still, sometimes a lot of it comes down to execution. Keep in mind that if one looks like crap... well, people won't think it looks good (rather, they'll think it looks like crap :D).
