If you could only pick one event to watch and/or compete in, which would it be?

Shred 30 or Circle Roundup

Post by Splint »

I personally think the Circle Roundup is an amazing and true contest. It should get widespread play time at every shred event and Shred 30 should get tanked.

If you could only pick one, which would it be?

Definately Circle competition (It's not called circle roundup, that's just what mathius called his video)

I'm not convinced shred30 should be dropped though.

I think shred30 should remain as it is the only way of judging performance mathmatically there is and many people (myself included) like to have a figure that tells me how good I am, and how good the best is.

Circle for suuuuure!

It is the first ever footbag event that lets a player show how fucking good they are!

Circle will eventually become the measuring stick for footbag players.

Haven't been in a circle comp yet, and haven't seen one done live yet either, only seen a video. That being said, presently one thing I like about competitions I have been in is how, when it's your turn, you know how long you have and can do what you want with that time, drops not withstanding... in the circle contest, if you drop you must pass to somebody else. In shred 30, or routines, when you drop, its still your turn, and so far this outweighs other considerations. When I compete, I like to think "this is my turn to compete, and nobody tells me when to pass: I get my 30 seconds or my two minutes, and I get to use all that time whether or not I drop." I want to take full advantage of my turn and use every second of it.

I haven't competed in either one, but it seems like the circle contest would be a TON more fun, because there's more of a "community aspect" (at the moment anyways) Shred 30 is all about you planning stuff out, and it would be hard to plan out a circle contest. I'm not very good at planning stuff. :D

i like the circle comp much better because it emphasizes style and difficulty at the same time. I also think that the circle comp is a much better way of measuring how good a player really is. In a circle comp you have to have great consistency or else you will lose for sure, and i like how it also gives the player a chance to redeem himself if he has one bad run. In shred 30 if you have a bad run you are screwed, and it doesnt seem fair that thw winner is determined based on one 30 second attempt.

I like circle comp and everything but IMO this is just wrong. The fact that I can make finals at USO over people like Ricky Moran and Will Digges prooves how biased this event is. It is biased towards long strings and consistency.
Also once you get to finals and there are people like Jordan, David and other insane kickers it spretty much up to the judges to flip a coin as to who wins. Each of them are going to be laying down winner level stuff, and the only people who might question the results would be the players themselves who just threw down hardcore and got 2nd or 3rd ect...
In shred 30 you got 30 seconds and thats it. No rebates... no crowd cheers for extra points. It takes HUGE consistancy, planning ability and pressure handeling to win a shred 30.
Circle comp is great and all but IMO it only tells us what we alread know, who can throw down in circles, where as shred 30 tells us whos got that extra something that only the best in the world seem to be able to bring out.
Just my opinion.

I like 'em both.

I think shred 30 should be shred 30 contacts vs. shred 30 seconds. This would level the playing field for that particular comp, force players to include higher add moves to compete, and eliminate the quickness/style factor (ie. Ryan Mulroney can hit more in 30 seconds time vs. say a taller player like Chad).

The circle shred is new, so I would like to see many more like it before suggesting any revisions. But I must say I like the idea of being put on the spot. If you are that good, then it will show in your performance. I'm not sure how it is judged, but some form of mathematics could be included for fairness sake, but like I said - I don't know how this is judged and would definately like to see it more in comps.

two reasons, as an organizer, I would prefer CC to shred30:

1) it is more of a "head to head" competition. it is more intense, and you can sense the hostility in the air. much more of a competitive atmosphere. spectators love this.

2) instant results!! the one thing that makes s30 the worst comp ever is that it takes hours to compile the results - rewatching footage and all that shit. say you've actually managed to get spectators to come in and watch this competition and - what? they don't even get to know who won? come back tomorrow? what a jip.

circle competition is great, i like it a lot and it will be more widespread very quickly. i don't think shred 30 should be tanked though, why do you think it should? it's the only objective competition.

Actually, like stephen said, the Circle Competition actually brought out more competition than community. I felt no community when I was in the Circle Comp. It was every man for himself. It seems like when everyone competes seperately (a.k.a. Shred30) there's more support between the players.

I'm not saying I don't like CC, but it definitely doesn't bring out the "community" in people.

Both are awesome and should stay. Why are we comparing these two anyway? Why not routines or rippin' run?

I think its cool how there is less friendliness between players during the comp, i mean footbaggers spend all this time being happy and friendly to everyone, which is really good, dont get me wrong - but surely it wouldnt hurt to go head to head every once in a while and battle it out?

Ooh, that's an idea that requires lots of consideration.

It's great and it'd be a fun new way to have 'teams', but we'd need to always make sure to give props and still like eachother. :)
