Unique Flyers
Something hit me when I did a pixie flying butterfly
Flyers are coming back in style!
Does no one think twice of the barfly by Lon Smith that ends flying!Rewatch Evan Lovely's awesome film of Freestyle Sessions!
It's fucking ill-matic!
What type of sick shit is stylee and hittable flying?

I don't agree with you. I think flyers are very cool but I don't see them coming back into style. A lot of people were still doing them when I started kicking about 6 yrs ago. I've seen less and less over the years.Flyers are coming back in style!
What is styley? I personaly have a preference for dragonfly variations (spinning ducking etc). I also really liked flying whirl kicks, the first one I saw was by Mathias Schmitt a long time ago.
What is very styley is linking flyers with non flyers:
any dragonfly > duck / dive
any dragonfly > whirl
any dragonfly > spin
any dragonfly > swirl
any dragonfly > whirling swirl
any dragonfly > dlo
any dragonfly > eggbeater
any dragonfly > downdoubles
flying clipper > stepping set

Recent flying links n' tricks
Pixie op dragonfly>ducking butter
Atomic op dragonfly>osis>Blurry dragonfly
Pixie ducking butterflyer>Ducking clipper
Diving Dragonfly>Op butter>Pdx Dragonfly
Stepping Ducking Paradox Reverse Dragonfly
Pdx Reverse Dragonfly>Butter>Rpt
Blurry Whirlfly (blurry whirl ending in a flying clipper)
Pixie Ducking dragonfly>ducking clipper
Stepping ss Dragonfly>Spinning flying clipper
Dragonfly record (oneside) = 18
Flying Matador
Most of these sealed with clippers or better...only a few hand-caught...its damn hard to seal big add flyers, which is why they aren't mainstream. WAY to hard to link into guiltless shred to be practical for a long, add intensive string.

i like flying tricks.
well... atleast how i do them.
recent stuff is
flying eggbeater
flying plo
flying toe dlo
and then theres all the basic tiltless (toe game)
i like them. since i rarely watch videos, and never shred with someone else who "flies", i dont see them much, so im stoked when i ht something midair.
iis there some older vids with flying in them?

I have a few things I want to say about flyers right now:
There is good flyer form and there is bad flyer form. Good flyer form requires you to land on the leg that performs the flying kick, not the other leg. Ideally, to do most flyers with good form, you should make your jump with the leg that does the kick, and then land on that leg also. The other leg should not already be heading for the ground as the kicking leg is making contact with the bag.
I think one thing that makes flyers cool is the change in the relationship between your body and the ground. Flyers are cool, as Max was saying, when they're linked with non-flyers because stalls alone (with a few exceptions for some symposium tricks like ps whirl, plus maybe some stuff like torquescrew) keep a player's spacial orientation with relation to the ground roughly the same all the time (you're always either touching the ground or only a couple inches away from it). Flyers can break that sameness of orientation, but not when they're done with poor form. I think, in part, its a question of hang-time. If you jump and kick with the left leg, and the right leg is already reaching down to plant on the ground as you make the kick with the left foot, you're cutting down your hang-time alot, its almost as if you just took a large step rather than a real jump. Keeping that right leg up, you're off the ground for longer, and the maximum distance between the lowest part of your body and the ground is greater. Poor form negates that hang-time and body-to-ground distance.
I think flyers need fairly decent amplitude (amplitude = how high you jump, and how much space you open up between your body and the ground) to be good. Flyers with small amplitude are like thin dexes. Big, complicated flyers are cool (by complicated, I mean having several elements to them, rather than just a basic jumping kick) only if you don't sacrifice amplitude for the sake of making them complicated. If you can only hit stepping paradox dragonfly by barely getting yourself into the air at all, than I think it was barely worth even doing the flyer instead of the stall.
Thats just what I think about flyers. You can have your own opinions. But think for a minute about why you'd even bother doing a jumping trick if you're barely gonna put any distance between yourself and the ground anyway.

Sweeeeeet! Is the flying pixie legover something like: Flying toe, in/out dex BEFORE planting. Then Plant and legover?brinard wrote:sure. the set is a mid-air toestall, followed by a jump, dexes and delay with another flying toe set (i know henryg saw a clean flying eggbeater)
flying toeset (plant one foot, jump hard) dex>dex > flying toe (dont plant between dexes or last stall)
As John said, its only a true flyer if you land with the contacting leg. All this noise about flying toe stall is kinda wack....they are more like "hopping" toe stalls. Its like comparing hop-over to eclipse or catwalk.
Flying tricks should feel kinda like symp, except the CONTACT leg is planted before and after the dex as opposed to the dexing leg.
Flying smear: Toe>Same in>Plant setting leg>op in>No plant of dexing leg>Op toe or inside kick>Land on kicking leg......and if it was to Butterfly, you wouldn't plant the second dexing leg until the dex for the butter had been completed.
Try Pdx Dragonfly>Eclipse or any symp move where the kicking foot for the eclipse is the dexing leg for the mirage or whirl.

okay... so im not "truly flying". i dont care, and if i need to change the name by which i call it, then tell me what to call it.
i start and end my trick mid-air, so i considered it flying. my bad, im still pretty new to footbag, and know jack about its older elements.
i think those tricks are cool, and i think dragonflys are weak. thats just my opinion, and im not attacking anyone.

I love flyers, I wish more people would do them.
Here`s a list of some of the harder flyers I have hit:
-sonic eclipse
-darkwalk kick (its on one of Tuukka`s Jouloukalentari vids)
-frantic eclipse
-flailing eclipse
-backside frantic eclipse
-atomic ducking eclipse
-pixie spinning eclipse
-symp whirling eclipse

After a little consideration I realized that I made an error in my earlier post.
Flying stalls do not follow the same rule as flying kicks. In Eclipse, for instance, one never jumps off of or lands on the contact foot, so I suppose a flying toe stall does not necessarily have to jump off of, stall on, and land all on the same foot. In fact, I don't think I've seen anybody do that yet. I wonder what it would look like...
As for unique flyers... I've been trying, from time to time, to improve my flying flapper kicks. They are kind of difficult to control: I often send the bag off in weird directions by accident. I was trying out a few last spring when J Moir recommended I try a bent-knee flying flapper. Strangely, they were almost instantly more easily controlled then the regular flying flapper. They still need lots more practice though. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation, Moir.

Eric Wulff strapped on his Lavers at the East Coast Championships a couple months ago for a basement session with Irish, Disco, Sunil, and Clavens. Air-Wulff was busting spinning flyers to ducks and paradox flyers to torques like only he can. Man, freestyle could really use Eric Wulff back full time. I miss his shred. All you noobs don't even know what you're missing.I love flyers, I wish more people would do them.

I think you need to try them, get good at them, and see how much fun they are when you can hit sweet links out of them. No trick is weak unless its 'the' or slurred. Thats the beauty of adding components.brinard wrote:i think dragonflys are weak.
I've hit the two in bold.....some of these are SWEET!!! Sonic Eclipse??!?!?C-Fan wrote:-sonic eclipse

If you haven't already, give inspinning eclipse a go....the 360 spin balanced on one leg straight into an eclipse make this one look way better that the less than full spin that seems to happen in a regular spinning eclipse.
