Some of you may have heard of dumpster diving, either for criminal activity (identity theft) or for hobby. It's basically going to dumpsters behind stores and businesses and finding good, thrown away items. It may seem crummy, buy sometimes stores throw away perfectly good stuff they can't sell/don't need anymore.
For those of you who do have experiences with dumpster diving, how was it? I've been wanting to go for the thrill and hopefully finding some good stuff, but havn't had the chance to go yet. A friend of mine had grabbed up some old computers that some place was throwing out. He also grabbed a couple of working 20 something slot hubs, very handy.
Dumpster Diving
ive found good items in dumpsters. i found drill cases (like little tool boxes from dremel)
and craftsman toolboxes that are old, but still in perfect holding condition.
ive got other stuff from dumpsters, but ill have to think what it was, and ill edit it back in later.
i have the craftsman thing as a shelf in my room as we speak. it was the footbag shelf, until i recently got new, cinderblock shelves.

Back when I was a kid, there was a run-down coal mine we played in. There were a few places were people dropped junk off. I found a perfectly fine mini trampoline (big ones didnt' exist yet) and rolled it all the way home to play on it.
We've grabbed other pieces of junk for things I don't remember and also busted all the glass for the fun of it. Good times.

My place is filled with stuff that was going to be thrown away....hm, no wonder it feels like a dump there was a dumpster at UIC that i got a bunch of classical music records from, including verdis requiem. I picked up this hammond organ that was left on the curb, but it was busted, cruise down semi rich neighborhoods, your bound to find something nice.
Plain, with everything.
