Has anyone else had a damaged meniscus? Also what are you supposed to do to recover?

Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot that can be done nonsurgically for meniscal damage. Depending on how you damaged it will tell you what you're capable of doing and if surgery is an option. Many times nonsurgical recovery will be rest and exercise programs - physical therapy. Surgically they can perform an arthroscopic surgery and suture any tear close the ends of the meniscus. Doctors can also trim off any worn / torn meniscus, but there isn't any replacing of meniscus that I know of because there aren't any materials that can keep the same properties of meniscus. So they can trim or remove it if necessary through a menisectomy, that is usually if there is a lot of wear or completely torn up.

So hopefully it's nothing major to where a progressive exercise program can eventually get you back on your feet more often. Getting back to footbag could be a problem depending on the severity of the tear, lotta knee movement. So anyways, that is a couple basics and options for you.

If you don't mind me asking, how did this come about and how do you know it is your meniscus ?

I bailed doing a miraging flail, landed hard on the side of my knee. The physio thinks it's a meniscus injury, luckily all the knee ligaments were ok.

So what is involved in a physical therapy program? I'm already doing the rest part a bit (no right leg dex/symp +only playing every second sunday), so what does an exercise program look like? and most importantly what are the prospects for recovery for a non surgical recovery program?

If I need surgery then so be it, shit happens.

Ok, now I've had my knee checked out by the physio's. No surgery needed :D
I have a minor meniscus tear and a number of sprained muscles, it's going to recover but this will take 4-8 weeks.
