I've always understood there to be unspoken sentiment that whoever wins the freestyle routine competition at worlds was that year's World Champion. It didn't occur to me that it might be otherwise until a conversation I had at the end of worlds with Phil Morrison, who argued that Felix Zenger was the best freestyler since he won the circle competition. I support that idea, considering that he also won sick three. Vasek dropped to third in shred 30 this year and didn't compete in circle or sick 3. However, neither sick three nor the circle comp are acknowledged officially by the ifpa.

I feel that there ought to be an overall award at each comp taking into consideration routines, shred 30, sick 3, and circle comp. Then again, I think success in footbag net ought to play in there to. (This may be personal haughtiness. I am intermediete in both freestyle and net, but I still feel like I could argue that I'm a better overall footbag player than, say, Evan Lovely, the top ranked American freestyler at worlds, who only does freestyle. If anyone feels this should be contested, then Evan, I'll see you on the net court.)

Anyway, about the poll, I only included those who competed at this years worlds. Even though Honza didn't place first in anything, I included him since he took second in 3 of the 4 mentioned above.

Thoughts?

Vasek. I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at, but it seems that you are debating who is the best in the world through World's Competition. If that were the case, I may say somebody else because Vasek didn't enter all events. Then again, I'm a complete Vasek fanboy, I don't care if he got last on every event, I know who the best is right now and has been ever since he took World's way back when. Vasek.

I don't like having the best overall player if you consider adding net into the mix. Not enough players are disciplined in both freestyle and net... I understand though the debate about the overall World's Champ, and I'm pretty sure it's been the winner of freestyle routines. I for one am against that now, only because I'm not a big fan of routines. I'd wrather see a champion of freestyle take the 'champion' title by winning something other than routines - Shred 30, sick 3, circle. Those to me are the most important competitions in freestyle. I think some sort of points system would be great to create the overall winner, but I'm in no mood to think that up. I'd wrather take a nap on my lunch break.

When you say best freestyler, it brings to my mind the ideas of flow, uniqueness, variety, and difficulty... a player that is creative in his/her strings. The best freestyle footbag player in that respect I believe is Jorden Moir.

The best shredder in the world, person who hits the hardest tricks, links, (ie hitting most technically difficult but not necessarily the most varied tricks) is without a doubt Vasek. I would argue that the level of play he showed two - three years ago is still better then another other player today (besides Vasek himself of course).

2 who puts out the best videos

How many of you have scene Vaseks shredding in a non tournament setting in the last few years?

Whos the best cook, whos the best painter, whos the best trumpet player? The arts don't have a definative best.

Footbag as a sport isn't, I dont think, based on competition. To me, competitions don't say much. It's all about the everyday circle. It's about consistancy and hitting those big tricks anytime you want and linking it to anything.

Key to footbag = consistancy

they both got higher scores than what was used to win worlds shred 30 in the US open, just because they werent at worlds, (to me) doesnt justify any of those others being the best)

I like watching Felix footage instead of Vasek footage.

I just think his (Felix) routines just flow better then most of Vaseks routines.

I think Felix should be thought as the world camp but who cares what I think?!

Again Kyle, that's the distinction between best shredder and best freestyler.

I don't think including net is realistic. With the amount of time necessary to get to that level of freestyle, it wouldn't be feasible to also be a world class net player. They are separate sports. If you want to determine the overall best footbagger (net and freestyle) then that's different.

Kenny Shults is the Father of Freestyle, AND he won net 16 Consecutive years (I dont know how many non-consecutive years...) He took first in Portland this year, right?
I hear he is still hitting crazy stuff like double spinning barrage.

No offense to kenny. But from what ive seen a lot of his stuff isnt really clean. Excuse me, a lot of his BIG stuff isnt. Like big apple, double spinning barrage and stuff. Anyways, I'd like to see vasek play net. And dominate
