Stitching 12s

So I just got some facile and glovers needles. Off I go!...

Cut out 12 pentagons in sizes I believed fitting. The I got one pentagon and stitched five pentagons surrounding it... And then I started thinking... now what?

How do you stitch 12s. What order do you do all the stitching in.

I've thought anf thought about it and the only way I can imagine doing it would make it end up being lopsided, break in unevenly, and be super awkward to stitch.

There is no practical way to stitch a 12 like a 32.

I find the best way is to continue sewing around the 5 attached pents, starting each thread from the center pent. from there just keep attaching paels where they are needed and dont "close up" two panels that dont need to be sewn together.

The good part about 12's is you cant put the wrong shape of panel on since there is only one, and you cant sew them on in the wrong way since all sides are the same. Just line up the panels.

After you have made a few you will find a metheod for stitching that works the best for your thinking process.

ive never made a 12 panel, but theoretically, couldn't you sew two little flowers of 6 pents together, like you've done one already, and then put them on opposite sides of each other and zig zag stitch em together?

Sam: That's what I thought at first, but after looking at it, there's no way it could be done, there's a tons of dead-ends you'd run into.

Make the 2 florets (each consisting of 6 panels[1 in the center, and 5 around]) then put them together so that the they naturally fit together to make a ball, the best I can explain it as is point into hole. Now, flip it, and stitch it closed, I would even guess you can do the whole thing with maybe 8 pieces of thread.

Well, I think what Sam meant was to zig zag it together with just one or two pieces of thread. The question wasn't whether it or not it could be done, but whether it could be done efficiently with a set pattern or order to the stitching.

It's really the same concept, but the only way I could see it working is if you played 3 stitches on the way and then equally placed 3 on the way back. Then, sure, your bag might be a little weird, but still a bag.

That sounds like the weirdest most roundabout way to stitch it. Just keep adding pents and stitching the whole way around each pent as you go. It's quite straightforward.

I think people get caught up by not starting and ending in the same place after the first flower.

After the first flower is done, start with a knot and end with a knot for each piece of thread.
