Double Legunder

Post by shredzilla »

I think I've seen Bevier hit this move, and other people have probably hit it before as well, but I kinda discovered it today on my own by accident. It's much like a double legover where you lift your knees to dex over the bag (both dexes happening in the air), but instead you dex under it , with your knees bent, and the bag travels over your thighs and is caught with a pickup on the end.

I've not seen this move on any move list, so I thought I'd at least get it on film and see if others have seen it as well. There's two takes. The first one I hit the move really solid, but the hand catch was weird because I hadn't realized I hit it until after. Second one is a bit iffy on dexes, and way lower background light, but the hand catch is there.

Edit: Well, I just watched the second take in slow, and it looks pretty clean. Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think. :)

Edit 2: Oh yeah, I just remembered I hit a variation (with pdx mirage on the end instead of pickup) of this as well, but I'm not sure if it got on film, it was way earlier in the session. I'll check out my tape and see if it's on there and post that as well.

I would call this trick: clip set far symple pickup.

At first I thought you were trying to do miraging pickup (also a cool move).

A good way to hit miraging pickup is to practise symple pickups :)

cool move.

Well, I thought about that actually, but I think what separates this move from far symple pickup is that both legs are bent in the air like a double legover, and the bag travels directly over them. In other words, if the bag didn't travel directly over the thighs, it would be thin. Where as it doesn't matter at all what you do on your way to dexing the bag in a far symple pickup. You could call it extra style I guess, but I really think this type of 'flip dexing' theoretically could become a concept. Maybe not for more adds or anything, but at least as a named concept.

Flip Dexing? Whoa, that freaked me out! 8O

(Uhm, yeah maybe. All I know is this way of doing that move was a LOT harder, and again I theoretically double dexed the bag: Because both legs were in the air as the bag travelled over the thighs. They were pretty tight dexes.)

^^^EDIT^^^Sorry Rory, I didn't fully digest what you meant by thigh ducking, because I had to rush out to get to the store before it closed lol. Also, I forget that ducking is a dexless concept. So your statement about it being 'like thigh ducking' is absolutely a perfect way to describe it as a component. The other thing is, I said it was a LOT harder for me to perform. The reason for this is because DLO is a weak point in my game, and pickups are a very strong aspect of my game, and far symple pickup isn't a tough move for me.

The way it's performed is the clipper set, then you quickly switch planting feet and jump off of the new plant foot, letting your knee go up and bend it just like a double legover. The bag passes over both thighs as the other leg follows suit, and you catch it the same way you would a DLO, but with the reverse move, pickup.

:x

But like Rory was saying, my legs essentially 'duck' the bag. It's a dexless concept, but there's gotta be something to be said about how the move is executed.

Just like a duck, the 'counter-dexes' could be thin, if the bag went over too high, or in front of the thighs instead of directly over them. I'm not trying to create the next rino set or anything :P , but I really think this could be a potential concept of some sort. Much like frigidosis and stuff like that. Yeah it's the same move, but you wouldn't catch a seasoned player calling frigidosis 'osis'. I think the only reason why moves like that are re-named is just so they don't get lost later on. I'm sure some of the old schoolers hit moves but never named them and they just went away.

While the move you hit was cool, and it may be more difficult than far symple pickup, it is no where near as hard as miraging pickup, and they look the same in the air. I challenge you to hit a clip set miraging pickup without bending both legs like you did for the move YOU hit.

no point to this post, except that what you did was a stylie variation, like grabbing. It is "fakey," like when you pretend you're gunna do a pdx mirage but you instead swing your knees back the other way to do a regular clip set mirage.

Very stylie. As for thigh ducking - I like the concept and hope to see you and others make more use of it in the future.

I admit it's way cool, and harder than a regular symple pickup and everything, but it's not really more than that I feel. Just style. Like the difference between muted clippers and regular clippers. One may be harder than the other or something, but it is still basically the same trick. I like it...I may even bust this one day....but it seems more like a segue for miraging pickup.

I can't play the video in slow motion on this machine, but I think it ends with a legover done bent-knee, not a pickup. Miraging pickup IS harder, but DLO is not, and I see this as DLO variation.

i think it is a cool trick, and totally worth the edit :two adds I would claim if I was hitting the trick. When done 'proper', the legs never cross the path of the bag, thus there is no dex, except the pickup.

I did a ton of bent knee, 'dexless dex' tricks back in 2001-2002.
bent knee butterflies, dada curves, DLO, drifters, atomics, and stepping,
and combinations thereof. It's already a concept, and I didn't invent it, I stole it from the people doing flyers back in the day.

I don't think you are giving the concept enough credit. mirage is a lot easier to hit than a bent knee version, IF and only IF you care about the presentation value of your tricks. I don't think the concept is cool unless you sell the dexless dexi.

Try a bent knee stepping set. hell of a lot closer to barraging set than a mirage yes ?

Much like the grab, this isn't rewarded any adds, and I don't even take the adds for the dexes. it's purely a I do this and you don't because you have adds shoved so far up your ass you wouldn't consider doing a trick like this, trick.

plus I would say it is technically unique, like the ducking version of a trick.

It is "fakey," like when you pretend you're gunna do a pdx mirage but you instead swing your knees back the other way to do a regular clip set mirage.
Actually, I think that is one of my zero add embellishments, and I called it shifty (into the set) , and it's counterpart is kinky (away from the set). Those concepts have nothing to do with bent knee moves, and I think i invented the concept of doing it on purpose. In reality, it can be used to move the paradox version of tricks to the otherside, but nobody will give you the add, so don't bother to ask.
The potential for kids to hit this type of thing in the easiest way possible would make it subject to add hunter abuse.

Good points Tsiangkun. Small correction, shredzilla is ending this with a pickup.
shredzilla wrote:caught with a pickup on the end
I know shredzilla and he knows the difference between legover and pickup.

I like the discussion going on here and am amazed at how far in either direction people's opinions can be on the subject of style. Concept or not, what shredzilla is doing looks really stylish to me. I actually had to watch the video a few times to catch what was going on. Being someone that shreds with Matt Cross, a very stylish player, I have seen quite a lot of stylish moves whose style components unfortunately do not receive any add value. Thank God there is a style category for judging. Besides, sometimes when you shred, you just want it to look good for your audience. It always amazes me when non-footbag players get a rise out of double around the world, even though anyone who can hit it will tell you it is not that difficult and only a three add move.

oh I see now, having left my 12'' monitor for something bigger. I totally missed what was happening in the video.

The bag is going over his legs.

I think this is a new concept. Sweet.

I do the same bent leg motion, but the bag goes under the legs (shins, which are tucked under the thighs).

cool stuff.

but both legs go under the bag on purpose , and then without planting, a symple pick up is performed.

i think people who do cool stuff on purpose should be able to name it so that it is obviously done on purpose, and not just some wasted motion.

maybe just call it the double under, or the undertaker . . .

I like undertaker....or burying. Burying pickup? Ha.

I tried this with symple legover, and it actually worked out kinda nicely too. It just feels way more styley than a regular one. Although I wasn't setting from clipper...so I did toe>op thigh duck. I hadn't tried from clipper, but from toe it feels really weird and cool. Props cmizzz
