CANADA footbag jersey

Until next June I am in Germany on an exchange program, however, I am still here shredding. If you guys do end up making them, I have one friend still in Canada and myself who would likely buy one. We're both ontario'ans..45 minutes from Toronto....

(I am also a fan of the mosher style jersey,..)

Apparently I don't look at the bags and equipment forum very often. Another vote for the Mosher jersey out of the ones pitched so far. Another "it has to be playable / well fitted". Another "I'd pay serious cash for serious shit".

Jon, is that a female / male pic or a front / back? I can't imagine myself playing with a collar like that. Not that I play anymore anyways

I would buy the Suderman one. If only it were black and red instead of white and red, and said footbag canada rather than freestyle footbag canada. Just think less text would look better. I can't imagine them being cheap at all though =/

I like the shirt Jon picked out. Wasn't sure about the collar at first, but it grew on me. Lots of soccer and rugby shirts have collars, and, lets face it: when you wear a collar it means you're all about business. (the style of shirt is called the Executive!)

I played with the shirt designer on the site and like the Executive with red body, black sleves, and burgundy (yes burgundy!) sleeve stripes and collar. Also like the idea of having a number on the back. Lets all be number 32!! Also, the Executive is a good choice cause it comes in men's and women's cuts.

I guess the shirt doesn't need much designing. Slap a white maple leaf and 'CANADA FOOTBAG' on the front and it's done. Would look simple and classy.

Anybody else have more thoughts?

So. Just want you to know that I'm still thinking about this project, and it is still a possibility to have Jereseys made up for worlds this year.

I recently PM'd Jorden asking for input and he had some interesting ideas about it. For one, he wrote that he thought the Jersey should only be made available to players actually competing. Makes sense. I'm not sure I disagree.

Now we have to decide:
1. Do we want a jersey that is for anyone who wants one that bacially says 'hey, I'm from Canada and I play footbag'.

2. Do we want a jersey that says 'I am a top-level player and have earned the right/have been chosen to represent my country'.

It's a toughy for me. I'd love to rock a team jersey myself, but I have in no way earned one and dont want people to think that I am the best Canada has to offer in terms of footbag. One option would be to make 2 shirts. One for people like me (the fans/casual players) and one for the Canadian players who we'll be routing for.

Any thoughts?

Jerseys made for competitors seem much more reasonable to me. If casual players want in on the logo as well, t-shirts, long sleeve tees and hoodies are the best alternatives.

It shouldn't matter if you are a top level player. Jerseys should be given to those who show the focus and determination towards bettering themselves, not only as footbag players but as people in general.

People who are proud and willing to represent Team Canada to the fullest.

I like this idea. I think it would be pretty special to finally earn a jersey... and to be like "I'm one of 14 in Canada that can wear one" (14 was just a random number I chose...) It would have more signifigance that way. I don't think you should have to be BAP or anything, but just players that are obviously ready to (and actively DO) compete at an open level. That would be sick!

Whatever's good though... don't sell me one until I'm solidly established as an open compeditor though, Mike.

i really REALLY strongly agree with jorden on this one. It should be given to people who are representing canada and who are active competitors, achieving high international results. But, here's the problem: Who's gonna decide who gets one and who doesn't? is it for any one who competes at worlds? is it for our top open players who compete at worlds? Is it for those who compete outside of the country period?
This is where i feel we need an organization, a national championship, a program and a board of directors.
I'd love to say that the jersey is something you have to earn, but who's gonna say "You. yeah you! You worked your ass off this year, you're results in competition have been getting better and better. You deserve to represent our country." Right now, there's no one to do that, and if some one did i think there would be some seriously angry people. Also, what about net? Is this Just for freestyle?

I really love the idea, and if i liked the design i would for sure shell out $100 for one. I liked the executive one, but i think i would prefer it without the collar, simply because i'm not sure if it would interfere with ducking or not. on the other hand, i'm not going to be going to worlds for a very long time

I agree with you Andrew. I don't have the means to do anything but make shirts. I can't and won't decide who should get one and who should not. So, if I make a shirt this year it will have to be for anyone who wants one - even Greenwood.

Jorden, Tom and others were keen on having the shirts say "Team Canada", but for a shirt available to anyone, I think something like "Footbag Canada" is more appropriate.

Ach! I dont know if it is even worth it to make one. How much cooler it would be if team Canada was something you had to earn your way into...

Really though. It's not like any average Joe can walk into a sporting goods store and buy a team Canada hockey jersey with his name on it... it's gotta be earned!

Anyone can buy, funds stay in the hypothetical organization, which in a couple of years might have cash enough to start giving free gear to high level players at its discretion.

Edit: And to facilitate the formation of this organization, might I suggest someone emails Goldberg with a request for a Canadian regional subforum at .ORG? Statements of interest and discussion that don't sink to the bottom of modified's general footbag section would be required.

I think there is a certain merit in having a 'competitors only' team canada jersey. It doesn't have to be limited to the best of the best!!

It would be about the same amount of work to get two jerseys made instead of just one. One can be for those who wish to represent canada at tournaments and one for those that just wish to express that they are canadian footbag players.

There is really no need to exclude anyone, we can all get jerseys. And anyone can get either or both jerseys.

Maybe only the competitor jerseys would have names?

Lots to think about!

I agree with Moshman. You shouldn't say no to people who are willing to pay money for a product you made. If anyone wants to show their pride/feel united by buying a Canadian jersey then there's nothing wrong with that.

However, I definitely think names on the back should be reserved for competitiors only. The name part could be the part that is earned.

Unless people want to pay extra for my name on the back. hehe
