Fat people drive everywhere (because joggings out of the question) and further contribute to global warming. They also fart more (larger rectums) which if we've learned anything from cows, can be very harmful to the environment.

Would anyone agree that fat people are worse for the environment than smokers?

There is no excuse for being fat. And no, you can't blame it on family heredity, because if you actually care about yourself, then you can overcome such things. Fat people need to get in more car accidents and die. It's almost embarrassing to look at fat people, let alone having to sometimes sit next to them during movies, or on a bus or something like that.

It's like watching the german unreal tournament kid... watching him makes just about anyone and everyone want to shoot themselves because it's embarrassing to watch...

Fat people are a disturbance to the peace and should be hunted down and be forced to lose weight, or be shot.

Fuckin fatties takin up all our space...

I'm trying to work out if you're joking or not...

I'm going to assume you're serious.

No excuse for being fat? Got any factual basis for that statement or just an opinion? Cause you're wrong. A lot of people are fat because they are lazy and eat crap food, but there are a lot of medical reasons why slimming down can be very difficult. I know someone who has a thyroid problem and there is a certain chemical the thyroid produces that they lack. You can substitute with pills etc but it's never as good as the real thing and even though she exercises a lot and eats really well she still finds weight a big problem. That's just one example, I'll bet there's more.

And if people want to eat crap and not exercise that is their own business, none of yours.

I'm still trying to work out if you're serious or not...

Yes, I was serious. There is absolutely no excuse for it.

If your friend is actually eating right, and exercising, then she shouldn't have a problem staying with a decent weight zone. Assuming she's between 16 and 20 years old, and about 5'6'', she shouldn't weight more than 170, and that's a maximume... Even around 150 you shouldn't be wearing any kind of "revealing" clothing, because it's not attractive, at all.

There's just no excuse. The only reason people are obese is because they are lazy. I fucking hate the majority of American citizens. There is no fucking reason at all that you can't get up in the morning and run 2 miles like I do everyday. And if you work in the morning, great, run in the afternoon, or at night. It takes 14 minutes, it's not alot of time out of your day.

Instead of going to McDonald's, make Hamburger Helper. That's not the healthiest thing either, but it's alot better than McDonald's. Eat breakfast damnit. I forgot where I read it but the mojority of people who are obese from overeating, don't eat breakfast and lose the starting energy for their day which would help them be more active during the day.

Anyone have a favorite breakfast? Mines's 2 slices of buttered toast, a bowl of either Cheerios, Golden Grams, or Raisen Brain, a banana if I have them, and either a smalle thing of yogurt, or go-gurt. And that's on a daily basis. I prefer the bacon, eggs, 2 slices of toast, sausage, and either pancakes or french toast on sunday mornings when you have more time to do that. EAT BREAKFAST, it's damn good for you and you have tons of energy in the morning, especially if you're going to school.

Bottom line, there's no excuse except for lack of desire, laziness.

Fat tax sounds good... With all of our American fatassess, we could have our multi trillion dollar debt paid off in a few months... Wink

Exactly....obesity is completely unatural and unhealthy. Other than a few people with rare genetic disorders, any person can be at least somewhat in shape with a proper diet and lots of excersize.

Obesity has been deemed an EPIDEMIC in the United States. 60% of Americans are over weight (not sure what the obesity rate is off hand). It's digusting and pathetic. America is a nation of fat fucks. I've always taken good care of myself and have never been overweight, but I can't say the same for most people in this country.

People can blame whoever they want but ultimately individuals are in control of themselves. There's no excuse. A Fat Tax would definitely reverse the financial burden that these people put on our healthcare system by driving up insurance costs and using up medical care capacity. I'm for it.

Haven't posted in discussion for a while...
Just whatched "the biggest loser" last night. It was pretty entertaining. Basicaly large people move into this house where they try to see who can lose the most weight. While it does work and lots of them do lose weight (though none of them become "thin" by shredder standards) they devote their life to it.
That being said many people become large b4 they have full controle of their lifestyle, ie childhood, and once one has hundreds of extra pounds the only way to change that is to completly devote ones life to it. With a 40 hour a week job, kids and no money for a personal trainer that is just impossible for some people.
Reaching BAP is just as attainable as losing 100 extra pounds!!! Both take incredible comitment and life changing habits.
and about the 60 of americans being overweight, that may be tru but it may also be a technicality. I'm still overweight by the BMI standard, and I'm by no means fat or out of shape(or so I think  ). My skeptisism may also have something to do with the fact that I ive in a college town where about 1% of people look overweight, infact I'd say 60% of the population is underweight... Things may obviously be different in other parts of the country.
I did read an interesting article on MSN, though it seemed a tad bit scewed, that said WORLDWIDE overweight outnumbers starving. Its goes on to spout out all sorts of statsitcs prooving its not just the US anymore... I'll see if I can find it.

Some people love food more than they want to be 50 lbs lighter. At the same time, a lot of people would like to shed the pounds but don't know how. They might be able to get rid of a few pounds but they come back plus some. If you have never been severely overweight or had a loved one who was, you probably won't understand how difficult it is for obese people to change their life so drastically. What people tend to forget is that it's not just someone's taste buds making them eat. It's physical, emotional, and sometimes cultural.

Have you ever hated what you looked like, felt completely unattractive, had problems finding clothing that would fit, been treated worse in public, had a harder time finding a job, felt physically unable to get exercise because your overweight body is preventing it? It doesn't feel good to be severely overweight, but that often leads to people getting depression and eating more. Eating breakfast might help but it won't magically do the trick. The weight of their body on their joints and feet often causes health problems which makes even walking painful and hard sometimes- so even if they have more energy, running 4 miles a day isn't realistic at all for most people. Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant.

Bitching about people being severely overweight doesn’t do a bit of good. I have an overweight parent and an obese parent. I can't explain the emotions that come out when people say that fat people should just get over it and stop eating. It's like saying "just stop drinkin" to a severe alcoholic, except worse. People can quit drinking all together, get a 1 year chip when they’ve been alcohol free for a year. But everyone has to eat, you can’t quit cold-turkey. When food provides an emotional satisfaction that a person might not get anywhere else in life, it’s hard to say “you must stop after one small (what the person might consider a half of a) serving of each dishâ€

Obesity is definitely a major problem, but I see it receeding within the next decade.

Also, it can be hard as shit to lose weight (Harder than anything you ninnies on here begging for an obesity tax have ever done), for a variety of reasons that I don't want to go in to, and some of which have already been mentioned.

Also, as far as the obesity tax goes, the reason obese people are taxing the system is because the system is too liberal, and thus it is a problem of the bueracracy and not of the individual. If an individual wants to fuck himself over eating in the current system, he's allowed to and the government will cover a lot of the bill if he's poor. This is wrong, but the solution isn't as simple or revenge seeking as you short-sighted ninnies want it to be with the tax, and it would take a massive overall of the entire neo-Socialistic healthcare system we have in place today to get things right.

~pardon my ignorance~

I too am FAT - 6'1" 210 lbs. - I am this way by habit. I don't eat breakfast, I already get up DAMN early (5:00am), just to get to work by (8:00am). I work all day long at a desk in front of a computer (currently as I type), then I sit in traffic for 1-2 hours/day. By the time I get home I am exhausted. I have enough time to kick for about 20-40 minutes, then eat, then sleep, then start all over again.

I admit that the food choices I make, combined with my lack of breakfast, contribute significantly to my Obesity.

Regardless I can still bust 5 and 6 add moves (occasional 7 on my B-Day).

But I am a different case than the 60% of Americans cited above. I am a footbagger - I have a light frame (avg. shred weight is 170 lbs.) and can quickly drop pounds if I need too, I worked for 24 Hour Fitness and am educated to what foods combined with what exercises, etc... will help drop the pounds.

I took weight gainer in high school to gain muscle mass - I was 16 and 135 lbs. In a year I gained 40 lbs. of muscle. Today that muscle has turned to fat. But I can turn it around - although I will admit that at age 31 that becomes more difficult, but not impossible.

That's my story - fat by choice and laziness as described above and I kick all the time.

If I have knowledge and positive goal setting skills and am still fat, imagine the rest of the US (or wherever) that isn't. That leaves you with a lot of fat people bro.

Anyways, I'll pay the fat tax in addition to the smoking tax in exchange for the right to run over random skinny people who seem to have under eatting disorders - unless you plan an unweight tax too - ha take that Paris Hilton.

A 'fat-tax' would definitely help the U.S. pull out of debt (Have you seen the thighs!?), and would give overweight folks an incentive to lose weight. As an added bonus, there will be more women at a healthy weight to get with.

People with glandular disorders, diabetes, and whatever other physical condition should probably be excluded from 'the tax', however.

Eat breakfast, eat healthy, don't eat till your stuffed, and lay off the mickey-d's.

Yes, but if you don't excercise, that muscle will diminish and you will gain fat.

Correct?

I can't believe you people are even comprehending a fat tax. This is ridiculous.

I think my first post was a little hasty and a little too black and white, so if I offended anyone I apologize.

I said I'm for a fat tax but I know it's not plausible or truly implementable in the United States. That, and the bill would never pass Congress. Have you taken a look at our politicians? Ted Kennedy, Dick Cheney?!!? Interesting idea, but it would not work. No one would want to pay it, you'd have a spend a lot just to enforce it.

I also agree that not 100% of the populace is capable of not being overweight. I do believe people are genetically predisposed to be more likely to be overweight. Nature AND nurture are a factor. But 60% :!: :!: :!: Something is WRONG! The United States is the fattest country in the world. WHYYY??? I'm not sure, there are probably a lot of factors and there's no point in playing the blame game unless it leads to a solution.

Personally I think more people should give vegetarianism a shot. It's the bomb :D Well that would open a whole 'nother topic, but it's an extremely healthy lifestyle. Lots of good socio-economic reasons too. If you'd like to argue that (as people seem to always do) there's probably at least one topic in the discussion section on it, so restart it there.

Maybe its time to stop putting the blame on individuals for their weight problems, and shift some of the focus to the education system and the food production industry. The way that unhealthy food is advertised to those unable to make rational eating choices (kids) is actually appaling at times. Cereal with marshmallows in it? Those huse "single serving" bags of chips? Anything you buy and heat up at 7-11? These are things that kids get coerced into buying, or nagging their (neglectful) parents to buy, before they fully realize the consequence of what obesity can do to your health and lifestyle.

Why pick on Fat as being against nature? It's not like we as humans live within the bounds of nature anyway. Almost everything we do s against nature. Oil production for internal combustion engines. Skyscrapers reaching hundreds of feet into the sky covering vast amounts of square miles. Buying food at stores, rather than hunting it down, killing it and eating it raw. How about shitting in toilets that carry our fecal matter through sewers to god knows where. Nuclear weapons anyone?

My point is that being fat is just as natural to humanity than anything else we do.

A lot of people would like to quit smoking, but can't. They want to never light another one, but keeping finding a pack in their pocket. If you have never been addicted to nicotine, or had a loved one who was, you propably won't understand how difficult it is for smokers to change their lifestyle. What people tend to forget is it is not someones tastebuds making them smoke, it's physical, emotional, and cultural. Yet the government still capitalizes on their addiction with additional taxes.

I originally posted the fat tax as a scathing response to someone wanting more government regulation of personal lifestyles.

That does not adress the issue in any way. Just because humans are un-natural in some ways we should be un-natural in our physique and health. Making excuses for a problem doesn't make the problem go away.

I still don't understand, how is obesity a problem for anyone but the obese person? I understand the whole government paying medical bills thing, but why are you content letting your tax dollars go to pay for some elses unfruitful decisions? It is a fault of the system, not the individual. Some of you guys are honestly just such idiots. I can't believe any group of "educated" people would even discuss a weight tax.

Before calling people idiots, you might want to make sure you know what eeryone is talking about. The fat-tax everyone is talking about isn't a tax on everyone to help fat people, it is a tax on the fat people.

Wow, who would've thought a fat-tax would've been a tax on fat people, not healthy individuals. Thanks Proffesor for clearing that up for me.

Fucking christ...

The question is, what necesity is their for a fat tax? Fat people don't tax you. They tax the healthcare system but that is because the government set the system up that way.

People should be paying for their own operations or not getting them at all. So much easier than you fucking liberal idiots wanting to tax per pound.
