Here is my original rant in all it's glory.
------
Oh I see, we don't need to make sense anymore.
BRING IT ON !!!!!!!!!!
gangsta wrote: it wastes farmland, and If I remember correctly, makes the soil unsuitable for Beneficial crops.

Fat people waste farmland. They cause upteen billions of tons of
methane gas to be released into the atmospere, just grazing their cattle
for meat. They grow hundreds of thousands of acres of crops just to
feed their live stock. People are dying all over the world because fat
people are wasting our resources on feeding their food, instead of
feeding each other.
Not only that, but the butts are Toxic litter, and we've already established that inhaling smoke is bad for everyone's health (even plants)!!!

You know what is bad for everyones health?, beathing in fumes from
automobiles. It's an undeniable fact that sucking on the tailpipe of a 67
chevy is toxic, with potentially deadly consequences. FAT PEOPLE
ignore this risk, and attack their own health. Almost as many Americans
die from obesity as from smoking every year. Millions of people
have to get into automobiles and sit in traffic attending their funerals,
forced to breath in toxic fumes. The government could change this, but
they won't act. Instead they choose to burn billions of tons of fossil fuels
every year, just because someone selfishly chose to be obese and now
people are forced to attend their funerals.
So what was your point again? We've already established that the environmental impact is somewhat negligible compared to the human aspect.
Since you think the government is so good, and so protective, why not
make obesity a crime. Cigarettes cost $8 a day. Lets start monthly
billings of fat people, say $5 per pound they are over the government
mandated weight for their race and sex. It's only fair that the government
protect us and our fragile environment from the obese and their
devestaing effects on global warming !!!!!!

I for one am sick and tired of seeing poor, drug addicted citizens of the
united states of america taken advantage of by the healthy segment of
the population. Smoking is not a crime, and neither is obesity, but you
have no problem with fat women walking around in public flaunting the
distruction of our planet. It's only the smokers you discriminate against.

And don't even get me started on how much coals is burned every year
just to keep the lights on in office buildings because we continue to hire
idiots who take longer to do the job.

No it's not dipshit. It's actually like saying.. you dumbasses are picking on the most superficial aspect of all the stupid shit humans do so why not put a tax on you for being even more stupid.

Yes there are vast amounts of fat people. So what. I have great friends and family members who are fat and would love to not have the physical and mental conditions that keep them from losing the weight. They are not a burden on me or you intolerable asses. They are sweet and kind and give more to the people around them than your narrow views could possibly comprehend.

It's haters like you guys that insure eating disorders stay alive. My cousin has been battling with her weight for 10 years and it began with people telling her she looked fat. She couldn't take it anymore and stopped eating any sort of substantial food in an effort to become your 6' 85lb supermodel goddess.

You ignorant fucks don't have the first clue. You offer no real constructive solutions and worse than that you wouldn't act on a good idea even if it came along.

Yes !!!

We definately should have a stupid tax. Our economy looses billions of dollars when we have to stop production to explain things to idiots.

Countless tons of coal are burned to keep the lights on while idiots are struggling to comprehend simple tasks instead of getting their job done.

many people are sent to the hospital because they are too dumb to read and understand safety manuals.

Numerous amounts of plastic are added to our landfills every year because dolts tear electronics apart to "fix them", but can't ever put them back in working order.

I think we should fine people $17 a month for every point their IQ is below 100 to recoup these costs.

Fat stupid smokers should barely have enough money to buy a pack of gum after they pay their taxes.

Not only did you not understand my response or original post, you decide that the best solution is to insult me on beliefs that I have never once claimed to hold. If you would care to actually read my posts, I have never once supported a "fat tax" in any way.

Don't act like since you have overweight people in your family, you can lash out at me for saying that being overweight is not conducive to a healthy life. My grandfather died from heart failure directly attributed to his weight problem. Do I think him an inferior human....no......do I think that social factors present in modern society make it harder for people to have a healthy weight...yes. Whether it is a fat persons fault, or the fault of fast food distributors and food producers, it is undeniable that the human species is not genetically intended to be overweight. It is an unnatural condition, which is not going to be relieved by people getting defensive and pretending like nothing can be done. I know for a fact that my cousin dropped over 50 pounds in a year....just by stopping her excessive consumption of fast food and going to the gym 3 times a week.

Overweight people consume excessive amounts of food, release excessive amounts of methane into the environment, their cars get worse gas milage because of the extra weight, and they take up extra space in places like theatres and grocery stores. Being overweight is bad for the individual, the environment, and is an inconvenience for the rest of us.

In theory, the tax seems like a good idea, but in reality it's probably not, and it will probably never happen.

Maybe we could use the lard from overweight individuals to power vehicles, lubricate machines, and fry chicken nuggets? Hell, we could even pay Them for their 'goods.'

no, in theory a fat tax is ridiculous, in practice it's even more ridiculous.

It's not the fat people's fault. I'm not saying there's nothing they can do about it, I'm saying there's a reason we're suffering an obesity 'epidemic' and it's not because 60% of the population don't care that they're fat, it's because society assaults them with sugar and fat and laziness every day, from a very young age.

I agree with the stupidity tax though! Right on! Even the ones who will be taxed will probably vote for it, because they're stupid. Suckers.

The real absurdity of the obesity tax is the fact that the only somewhat reasonable argument for it, that fat people tax the healthcare system, is backwards because it's the government themselves paying for the fat peoples healthcare when they can't cover it. So basically, taxing fat people under this premise would just be recharging them for the things the government currently gives them for free. Why we give anyone free healthcare is beyond my comprehension.

Methane produce from animals only contributes to the greenhouse effect if the plants that the animals eat are not replaced. Otherwise it has a zero total impact on the greenhouse effect since the carbon is re absorbed into the new plants.

The only things that effect the greenhouse effect is deforestation (land clearing) - and then burning the plant material or letting it rot and burning fossile fuels. These processes release carbon into the air which will not be replaced (at least in the forseeable future).

Surely the problem with Fat people is the materalistic consumerist world that we live in. If you want to stop people being fat you need to significantly change society. Can't see that happening anytime soon.

Just saw an excelent program on Public TV about obesity.

All of the "everyone can be skinny" folks have obviously never heard of the gene leptin or the NC4 receptor in the brain. Basically saying "everyone" can be skinny is like saying everyone can be straight, or everyone can avoid getting cancer.

Be thankfull that diet and excerise works for you. It doesn't for everyone. Just like eating like a pig doesn't make everyone fat.

If being fat is genetic or pre determined at birth, why has obesity increased so dramatically over recent years?

well...
You do realize they get the term "obese" for polls like that by dividing the weight by hight, ie bmi. I would have to be 198 lbs to be considered obese, I've been there before, and I wouldn't have even considered myself fat.
People lke Jack Black are obese on that scale. Every profesional athlete is obese on that scale. Ales Z is obese on that scale!!!
So yes society is making it so there are more people with some extra weight... But "SOME" of the people that seem to "gross out" some of you are the ones who have the leptin and NC4 receptor problems. They can put in the same amount of work as you or more and not see results.

hmmmmm.
no.

Obviously industrialized ways of life have been making people get fatter. It would be stupid to argue otherwise. I'm just saying:
1) obese is a relative term, and rarely, if ever, is body fat percentage taken into account in any studies, especially ones that want to prove that we are getting fatter.
2) in some people genetics play a role. just like geneticaly some people have flat ankles.

Who cares, they are taxing the resources of our planet, endangering our ecosystems, and creating a future plagued with war and famine for our children.

Why won't anybody think of the children ?
