A virus that affects computer monitors?

Is there a such thing? A few days ago, my computer monitor went crazy and started flashing. After a while, it stopped flashing and just stayed black, no matter what I did. So I thought it was just randomly busted and hooked up my stepdad's extra monitor yesterday. Well, last night, a flash of light woke me up, and this monitor was flashing. I shut everything off before any more damage got done. Does anybody know what is wrong? It seems to happen after I leave the computer for over atleast an hour or so. I have a screensaver, and after so many minutes my screen goes into standby or whatever it's called. I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me out. I spent too much money on this computer for it to die on me already.

It is impossible for a virus to physically break a monitor. I would reinstall your video card drivers or try using a different video card to see if you can eliminate one of those as possible causes of your problem.

Yeah, my moniter flashes sometimes as well, probably because the computer/moniter is somewhat old.

Could also be that you don't have it plugged in to a surge protector...or possible wiring fault? I don't think there's much anything a virus could do to straight fry a monitor, but a surge or wiring fault definitely could.

Everything is plugged into a surge protector. I'll probably try reinstalling my video card sometime. For now, I just changed the settings so that my screensaver has something moving on it instead of it being blank/ black. I also switched off the option to turn the monitor off after being away so many mintues. It works so far.

I might hook my original monitor back up and see if it's still messed up. I hope not.
