Probably the only shredder of all fLemmings
Here's the lil' video from that session with Julien in Brussels last week:
Awakening. 48 Megs and crap quality
but we're getting used to that aren't we.
Awakening. 48 Megs and crap quality
I hadn't played for days so yesterday evening I decided to kick like there was no tomorrow. I ended up having a more than 2 hours marathon solo session in the garage. Trouble is, there is a tomorrow (namely today) and my legs are sore as hell
.
No heroic runs during that session.I did hit whirling swirl again strong and I'm getting closer flip now I'm doing my whirl bigger.
Other good stuff:
-paradox drifter BS
-drifter>backspin BS (I loooove that combo - it was a first for me)
As for the rest I focused mainly on form (blenders, paradox whirl - note to self: do not 'step away' from the whirl, keep it under you) and new tricks, and components that will help me hit those new tricks (e.g. symple legover for flail and bubbabeater). I so wonder why I keep having a hard time with dlo, eggbeaters and all those mid-time tricks.
Oh yeah, I footed bubbabeater 10000000 times on both sides
and came tantalisingly close to a number of barraging tricks
.
More importantly I like my style these days. Except for the fact that my clippers don't consistantly hit that 'sweet spot' I'm on good terms with my style. I think that means something as I have the impression there aren't too many players who say this.

I have a job interview later today. Well it's not really an interview, it's really like a written test. If I pass (and I think I will), I end up in a substitute pool the firm can then pick from if they have a vacancy.
It's no big deal really but still I'm a little nervous
.
I tried surfing modified a while to put my mind at ease, wasn't successful so I think I'll watch Randall's vid one more time.
Oh yeah, I had a really sweet session on saturday but as there isn't enough time to blog now I'll do that later.

Hey Wim, let me congratulate on:
1) having a job interview
2) on kicking ASS on saturday! I was amazed by your guiltless run length, your BSidedness, your rubberman attempts (you will defintely get it before me) and your new tricks (whirling swirl, drifters everywhere, spinning osis like cake etc.)

Haha! Thank you guys.
I think I did fairly well on that written test (in spite of my poor experience in the field and only a few hours of preparation). I have an interview on Wednesday. Rock on!
If you're unemployed, you start feeling very stupid and useless after some time, which makes it all the more satisfying to do well on tests. Like you can finally prove: hey, I DO have capabilities!
So that session on Saturday was pretty cool. The town of Elsene, just outside the centre of Brussels, hosted a two-day event named 'Rues Olympiques'. 'Olympic streets' if you will, but the pun works better in French as the French for 'the Olympics' is 'Jeux Olympiques', which is only one step away from 'Rues Olympiques'. So the idea is to familiarise youngsters with a bunch of alternative sports (ranging from aikido (sp?) over tennis soccer to yay footbag). Loads of cities in Belgium have hosted similar events over the summer and this weekend was Elsene. And a VERY good organisation I must say. The instructors got PAMPERED with a t-shirt that said 'coach' on the back (t-shirts are ALWAYS cool) and truckloads of free food.
I showed up at the site at 12.30 to join Seb and we pretty much kicked it off immediately. I hit pretty hard and long runs from the start so I thought to myself: 'hmm, let's save some for when the others show up' which would turn out to be not for hours! Well, Jul showed up, but by the time Alex and our foreign guest Franck Remy showed I was pretty much spent, haha.
Speaking of which, I had been looking forward to meeting Franck and most of all to see him play in real life. He put together the 'Vasek à Paris' trilogy late last year and I had fallen in love with his style in those vids. And, well, what you see is what you get. The videos turned out to give an adequate represantation of his trick choice. Only sicker and longer. The guy ooooozes style. He makes footbag look easy. He also had a few things to say about my style, which for some reason got at me at first. I had no idea I was so touchy at that but it's good to know. Now at least I can try and get rid of that damn pride. What he said was to stay up straight and with shoulders back throughout runs, which I thought I did, but don't, haha. The thing is I probably keep up straight on spins, but when I start to shuffle I tend to bend, which makes most sets a lot lower. That's okay for tripless, but as Franck rightly pointed out I can in due time put in an extra dex if I set higher.
So enough about Franck. I hope I spelled his name right. Max hasn't touched a cigarette in weeks and his run length has doubled, I kid you not. I went 8-o on various occasions and he says there's more progress to come.
He showed up with a girl I thought I didn't know. Shortly after some of us went down the road to film some sick03s. However, when I looked their direction again after 10 minutes, she was in shorts and lavers doing guiltless! Hahaha. Max is dating a shredita! SO cool. We also found out both of us were at the German Championships in 2005, but we didn't actually meet although I do remember a French shredita.
This post is getting way too long and I should be making dinner argh! I'm gonna sell this short and sum up some highlights:
-whirling swirl a few times of which once midstring
-a guiltless run probably +26 (thus my record), but it did have strings like osis*4 in it so it's partly a BOP run.
-footed bubbabeater and flurry. Decently close to whirr and high plains drifter.
-osis>backspin a few times midstring. I love that shit!
-matador midstring
-toe blur BSOS
-ducking butterfly>ripwalk BSOS
-terrage 'almost' back2back (an idea I nicked from Vasek's vid)
-sailing same side mirage first try
-11 ripwalks
-blender 'almost' back2back. This feels totally possible. I should try and hit it.
-for sick03 I did legbeater>ducking butterfly>torque. I also hit it first try and both sides, which illustrates that I master the tricks I do but it also proves a painful lack of 5s. Haha, I should really do something about that.
-*EDIT* forgot to mention I hit a lil' vortex as well.
Off to the kitchen now. Laters!

in my challenge thread earlier today. So I did, around noon. It was the first time in about a year that I started kicking before 12. And MAN my session was fruitful.I wrote:shit! I should have a challenge hunt session soon!
During my 2h15 (
-dimwalk>sidewalk>ripwalk>stepping opposite switchover>[repeat]
-paradon>paradox mirage*4 (good for consistency)
-toe blizzard (Both sides too, none too sure about the cleanliness of the illusions though)
-double legover>opposite butterfly>ripwalk>[repeat] (also good for my dlo hit rate)
-symposium whirl BSOS (I was particularly proud of this one)
-tap>atom smasher>[repeat] (I'm a machine)
-drifter>gyro mirage (both sides- neat combo)
-fairy legover>fairy legover (last but not least! This one gave me much more trouble than expected)
So 8 challenges, that's pretty good.
Other highlights included:
-18 contacts of butterfly>pdx illusion (I'm trying to clean that illusion)
-ducking clipper>spinning clipper>[repeat]
-Did 68 BOP or so first try but thought I had counted from 30 to 41 immediately. So I tried to be on the safe side, did another BOP run and did 76
Off to update my challenge thread now
I have a few more cool holiday pictures on my disk. Here's the last batch:

My girlfriend (right
) with a curious goat.

Crazy colours.

Crazy colours part II. You just gotta love this hotel.

Wack archipelago off the coast.

Crazy colours. Picture from a boat.

Look at that light.

No electric appliances?
I didn't even have to sneak to take this picture. In the distance you can see the coast of former Yugoslavia (or thereabouts).

Last but not least THE most insane picture I ever made. Can you see the people in the distance?

The Brussels Footbag Club has officially been acknowledged as an ASBL (a sort of non-profit organisation). Yay! Our first plans as to that date back a few years, so you can imagine our relief when we finally heard the news.
To celebrate we uncorked a few bottles of champaign, had a general assembly, and a big ass shred yesterday evening (in reverse order).
Here are some highlights for me:
-blurry whirl
-a 31 contacts guiltless run, which beats my last personal best with 5 tricks
!
-bubbabeater! Finally! I hit it first try yesterday and right after it I footed it again flip.
Man, it felt soooo good to finally see that bag come up. I have it on tape and especially in slo mo my face is hilarious.
I had been practicing clip set far symple legovers the day before, I suppose that has something to do with it. I mean, it won't help you for the bubba, but for me the hard part of bubbabeater is the timing of the second dex, and clip symple legovers surely helped me visualise just how much time I have to complete the trick.
BTW. Corentin (club chief Seb's bro) and Alex are working on the club site. It should go online half October. I had a first look at it and IT KICKS ARSE!!! Honestly one of the coolest footbag sites I've seen so far. If only our skills matched...
