Wednesday 9/6 shredded for ~2 hours with Cody, James and John

Session highlights:
 GYRO MIRAGE. New trick. Been working on this for a while, hit first try last night. Let out a resounding "OH YEAH!!" as I hit this move perfectly and kept going with a few more contacts.
 PDX Illusions looking much better. Again tip from Cody about turning my body slightly after the set made this move much easier. Now just gotta work on flip. Flip illusions have always been sketchy :?

Other shred notes:

 Getting closer to hitting Flail, but still have a ways to go
 Osis feeling better, but still pretty weak

Cody highlights:
 Atomic Knee-Bumping Guay BSOS 8O
 Lots of steezy toe to toe runs
 PS Whirl

James highlights
 Trip to the Whirl buffet: pdx whirls, symp whirls (strong side only), Tomahawk and a few footed PS whirls and mullets
 Ducking clip x 4
 Diving clip x 4
 Attempts at Gangsta Party on both sides, very close but no cigar
 Stepping looked good, some blurs and ripwalks
 LONG tiltless run, at least 30-35 contacts with some 3's and 4's thrown in.

John highlights
 Won poker tournament and bought Lavers with the $$ :P
 REV WHIRL  :P

SAN MARCOS SHRED THIS SATURDAY!! WOOHOO!!

Non footbag section of blog:
Been eating healthier. Been eating breakfast. Cutting down on Vault and Mountain Dew. Been packing my own lunch which saves money, time and allows me to eat healthier. Sleeping better. Feeling better. Good stuff.

Baldurs Gate notes:
Pretty much done all the side quests of Chapter 3 except for killing the Liches (they are NASTY!) and the Mind Flayers. Killed the Red Dragon and the Shadow Dragon, so made both armors from their scales. Got the Holy Avenger and the Celestial Fury. Time to start doing the Shadow Theif quests.

9/9/06 San Marcos Shred 7.0 Hours :x :x 8O 8O :D

WOW WHAT A SESSION.

The shred at this one was arguably more fun than US Open. Dudes who hadn't seen each other in literally 2-3 years were reunited to shred once again. All in all about 10 guys showed up representing Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos and Houston.

Curtis and Mike from Houston came and stayed with me. They are awesome dudes, we had a great time. We got totally fucked up Saturday night and Mike ended up puking pretty bad.

Insane stuff was hit son. You can wait for the video, we chalked down everything we hit.

Some highlights that I remember:

Curtis aka Shuffle Pimp
 Scorpions Tail BSOS
 Lots of sick tripless and fearless links

Stoke
 Paradon > PDX DLO
 Voodoo
 Pigbeater for the first time
 Super cleans DLOs, Eggbeaters and Flails

Me
 Gyro Mirage again
 20+ contact run with Butter, Pdx mirage, Symp mirage, Far Legover, legover and mirage all BSOS

Cody
 General Barefoot pwnage
 Sailing Mirage 8O

Andrew
 Vertigo a few times
 Pigbeaters and Smokes
 Pandemonium :?: (not 100% sure if he hit this)

Sam
 Blurrier
 Dimmier

James
 DSO BSOS
 Food Processor :?: (I think)

Jose (OMG)
 Juantomic Butterfly 8) (Symposium Quantum Atomic Butterfly)
 Flailing Torque
 Blurry Whirl > PS Whirl BSOS
 Mullet BSOS
 Shitload of other stuff, this kid is crazy good

I PLAYED SOME NET! Tina and Heather were there, we got to play some net. Wow it's definitely harder than I thought it would be. I think it would be fun to get into if I had the time.

Oh also I recruited a new footbag player :) :P :D Some guys were watching and too intimidated to join the circle. I started calming them down with stuff like:
"these guys have been playing a long time, and practice A LOT".
"the right shoes and the right bag are very important"
"If it looks like they've done a trick 1,000 times, they've probably done it 10,000 times"

One guy Victor was willing to try. I showed him ATW but it just wasn't happening inskate shoes and some bigass Guatamalan bag. I asked him what shoe size he wore, it was 12, same as mine. I let him try on my lavers! and use one of my freedom bags. Within 30 minutes he was hitting:
 ATW both sides
 Mirage
 Pixie
 Legover both sides

And a few links with those tricks 8O I told him about footbag.org, atxfootbag.org, modified and he got Andrew's number. He was really pumped to be able to do tricks that fast. He really picked up on stuff quick. He's a natural, I hope he sticks with it. There's an Adidas store in San Marcos, and he said he was going to get Lavers as soon as he had the money.

It was a badass shred and a badass day. The park was great, the weather was great. What more can I say?

We got a ton on of it video too, Cody is working on the video.

9/11/06 1 hr session after work :D

Worked on: Spinning set, strings, osis

Didn't think much would happen this session but it ended up being really good :P :) Highlights:
 Gyro Mirage
 Mirage > Legover > rpt 21 contacts (new PR by 1 contact)
 Spinning Lap Stall :D

Really seeing progress with spinning. Have to keep in mind these 3 points:
 Clipper setting foot should be well behind me, but still tight to spinning axis
 Set towards butt
 Set FIRST, then spin
 Spin straight (not tilty!) on axis to minimize moment of inertia, thereby allowing myself to spin faster/easier.

FOOTED the following    :
-Spinning Clipper
-Spinning Butter
-Merkon
-Flip Merkon
-Pandora's Box

I was sooooooo close to hitting all those moves. I didn't want to stop playing but I was sweating buckets and panting like a dog.

Flip spinning is actually beginning to feel possible. Just last week I had Zoolander syndrome where I couldn't spin left. Now I'm over it and I think I should be able to develop it at the same speed as regular spinning pretty soon.

---------------------------------------------------

9/12/06 40 min session after work

Worked on: Spinning set, symposium schnizznoz

It rained on my drive home so it was hard to find a dry spot outside to shred. I'm really trying to get in the habit of shredding every day, even if only for a short session.

Highlights:
 Legover x 21
 Symp Mirage > Symp Pixie > Symp Mirage   OWWWWW

Spinning set wasn't feeling as good as it was yesterday (see above). I'm still hopeful though. I just wasn't in the groove. Oh well.

Well I got a little too trigger happy with symposium stuff. Took a few shots at flip Flail  I think I'm finally figuring out the mini-hop > superjump needed for flail. Still need to develop the ankle strength though, that's what ends up hurting.

I cut the session short because both ankles were hurting. I really like symposium tricks, but I gotta remember moderation. I haven't hurt myself yet *knock on wood* but I think I've come close a few times.

Jeremy Mirken is coming to Austin! :) :) I'm pumped. I gotta remember to ask for tips on drifters and whirls.

9/16/06 3 hours at History of Texas museum w/Cody and James

Worked on: Spinning

Monster session. I kicked ass today :P :P 8) :D 8) 8) :P :) :) :o
 flip Gyro Mirage, several times actually. Very close to BSOS :x
 Pandora's Box
 Spinning Pickup
 Also footed: Merkon, Gyro Legover, Spinning Mirage, Spinning Clipper.

Spinning is really coming along. I can flip spin now! :) I'm so pumped. No more of the that Zoolander bullshit. It's weird, flip spinning is actually becoming equal to strong spinning. I footed spinning mirage like 7 times today, literaly. Like, I hit spinning mirage-kick probably 4 times. GRRRRRR. I'll get it. I'm getting better at the set. I'm also not getting dizzy very easily, kind of building up a spinning tolerance. It's cool, I only started working on spinning a week and a half ago and I'm VERY pleased with my progress. I hope to be able to have spinning clippers and gyro mirages as guiltless links on both sides, and be able to hit spinning butterfly without too much trouble.

I never thought I'd start working on spinning until later in my game, but I just decided to fuck around with it a week and a half ago, and here I am now hitting all these tricks. I'm really happy about it. I just didn't think I'd ever be good at spinning, and now I'm learning super fast. It's really fun too! Hitting gyro mirage is SUCH a good feeling, and now that I can hit on both sides, I feel GREAT. Hitting it BSOS is just around the corner, I can feel it!! :P :P :x :) :) :D :P :D

Cody and James shredded well today too. James hit spinning whirl twice and Cody hit ducking rake and toe sidewalk. Humidity was off the mother fucking charts yo! I drank a bag and a half of water (probably 100oz). I don't know where I'd be without my camelbag. It is the shiznite. James and I both got nauseous and different point from the heat. My abs were cramping up. I think I would have shredded all day if it weren't for the heat. I was so determined hit spinning mirage I told myself I could stop shredding when I hit it. But I got to the point where I was so exhausted and just drenched in sweat and so worn out, I just had to stop. I didn't hit it, but I will, very very soon :)

Well I was updating this thing a lot. Not much shred lately due to these two pests:
 Job
 Baldur's Gate 2 (computer game)

Both of which I am kicking some ass at. I was one of a few people named "North American Sales Hero 2006" for AMD. What sort of promotion or bonus or raise did I get for such honors? Zilch. BG2 is tons of fun. The nerd in me just loves Dungeons and Dragons. I have some pretty bombastic equipment including the Holy Avenger, 2 Rings of Gaxx and Staff of the Magi. Life is good.

Session Wed 9/20 2 hours
Worked on: not sucking

This wasn't a bad session but I really didn't anything of note. I was tired and didn't play anywhere near my best.

Session Sat 9/23 3 hours
Worked on: not dying from heat exhaustion

Highlights:

 Spinning Mirage (second time ever)
 Lots of 20+ contact tiltess runs with some 3's thrown in.
 One fluke perfect stepping set that I completely balked on.

Oh yeah and James hit some good shit:
 Blur > Butter > Blur > DOD
 Tomahawk
 Legover x 35ish

Jeremy Mirken is coming to town! We will have a museum sesh on Sunday. It will be epic.

Not the usual longwindedness from me. Just the facts. Peace out.

lol @ zoolander syndrome!

Isn't it an awesome feeling getting a newb into shred? I just ordered lavers online with a kid today! What an awesome fucking pumped up feeling! Good job hooking that kid up!

Good luck with flip spinning! Just remember to spin, and then do the clipper!

Tuesday 9/26/06 45 minutes
Worked on: Didn't last long enough to focus on anything specific

Hit Gyro mirage on both sides, spinning felt pretty good. Then I noticed my shredzilla bag has a hole. Now all my good 32's have holes :( I need to get some fabric glue

Wednesday 9/27/06 90 minutes
Worked on: nothing in particular

Not particularly good session. I had low energy and my foot was hurting. I think it may be broken :( I am going to go to the doctor nexy week. I helped John mod his lavers. He hit butter > rev whirl first try in them once they were modded. Also he hit mirage first time, a few times.

Oh yeah, and I hit  spinning clipper for the first time. YaY!

Saturday 9/30/06

Got up and worked in the morning. Blech. Stupid quarter end.

Picked up Jeremy Mirken aka "Senor Grommet" from the airport :) We got back to my place and had a short shred session, about 45 minutes. I was definitely hoping to get some tips on my game, and he was happy to oblige. He gave me some good drills for learning drifter and some tips on dexercising. Also got some advice on whirls, my form is VERY BAD. I'm really going to need to overhaul my technique if I want to hit that move. I hit spinning clipper again :P

Drove Jeremy to the wedding he was in town for. Went home and played some more Baldur's Gate 2 :x :x :) I beat it!! Finally. Kinda sad it's over. Now to move on to the expansion pack (Throne of Bhaal).

Went out to sixth street with Amber and met up with Jeremy and some other peeps from the wedding. The Ginger Man is a bar that probably has over 100 beers on tap. Started off with a Fireman's Brew (Austin beer, very yummy) and then had a Dogfish #60 IPA. Amber got totally sauced off 3 beers, she has no alcohol tolerance at all. It was a fun time.

We went for a late night drunchies run to Taco Cabana afterwards. Jeremy jokingly made a reference to "MLT, mutton lettuce and tomato" which I immediately identified from the movie "The Princess Bride" and we kept quoting the movie. It seems like we have a very similar sense of humor. Even though he was really on here for a day, we hit it off really well and not just cause of footbag I think. Also, we found out we're very close to the same age, I'm 2 or 3 weeks older than him.

Sunday 10/1/06

Woke up to my cell buzzing. Worky workin man. Worked all morning.

Rocked some corn squares, ibuprofen, and some Vault and headed out to the Museum. Met up with Cody and James. John arrived shortly after. It was a good session. It's finally cooled down. I didn't feel the heat for the first time in a long time.

Me Highlights:
 Spinning Clipper 3 or 4 more times, footed hitting it x2
 Symposium Pixie BSOS (b2b actually) first time
 Symposium Mirage starting and ending on a inside :)
 Spinning Clip > Pdx mirage > Butter
 Very close to near symp mirage BSOS
 A few ducking clippers, YaY
 A handful of 20+ contact tiltless runs with some 3's thrown in.

John Highlights:
 Near mirage and near pickup for the first time
 footed rev whirl x2

Jeremy Highlights:
 Symposium Reverse Swirling Toe for the 2nd time ever
 Clipper Set Muted Zulu Mirage BSOS 8O
 PS Whirl x 4
 Run with Blurriest and Blurry Whirl BSOS

James Highlights:
 Tomahawk. Also footed Mullet and Whirlwind.
 Bunch of long guiltless runs
 Spinning Whirl

Well that about raps up everything I can remember. Peace out y'all.

Wanna get good? Play every day. That's what I've been doing. So maybe I have a broken foot. So what. It'll heal.

Monday 10/2/06

Short session. 30 Minutes. Worked a little bit on infinities. Got tired very quickly. A couple highlights:
 Clipper x 10 on each side.
 Pickup x 8

Still gotta hit that move 10x.

Tuesday 10/3/06
Got home "early" from work.
Worked on: Strong side butter (flip has surpassed it from skooling it a lot), flip pdx mirage, consecutive guiltless contacts.
Well the thing I am most stoked about for this session is that I hit 8 guiltless contacts, 5 of which were unique!
 Butter > Gyro Mirage > Butter > PDX Mirage > Symp Mirage > Symp Pixie > Butter > PDX Mirage

YaY! Gotta go1

10/4/06 1.75 Hours
Just me and James today. We got a lot of shred in.
Worked on: Clippers, Spinning
James is a very introspective player. He is really big on form. He gave me a lot of tips. I hit gyro mirage a few times on both sides. I also hit several spinning clippers out of right clipper.
 Footed several new moves: "flip" spinning clipper, spinning butter, DLO on both sides.
Feeling really good about my game. I feel like I am on the verge on hitting a lot of new moves and integrating a lot of stuff into my game.

My back started hurting after Wednesday's session. It's hurt every day since. I think I pulled a muscle attempting DLO or something. Not sure.

Woke up Saturday morning and between my foot and my back I did not want to move. I missed our Saturday session for the first time in forever. I played computer games for a few hours with an icepack on my back and generous dose of ibuprofen.

Well around 4pm I was feeling OK to shred and I just had to get out there.

Saturday 10/7/06, 1 hour 45 minutes, Solo session @ home
It was hot. Hot as balls. It's October. What the fuck is going on?

I fooled around, stayed off the symposium. Spinning was not happening.

I attempted DSO and Paradon. VERY close on paradon actually. That trick will come soon I'm sure. Actually DOD felt like it might be easier than paradon for some reason.

I decided to try dexercising to improve the tightness of my dexes so maybe I could hit some of those out-in double dex moves. The irony that ensued was very pleasing. I still couldn't get any double in-out stuff going. I then did some in-out dexercising.

At some point I decided to try pixie set again. If you know me at all pixie set is something I've struggled with for a long time. Well, tightening up my dexes helped immensely! Before I was trying to dex super fast and I was dexing way too wide. The result was a wild set that I was too off-balance to hit anything else after.

I ended up being able to do it on both sides. It was like the more I relaxed and just tried to keep the dexes tight I did't need to try very hard. I ended up hitting:
 PLO both sides
 Smear (sealed with butter > pdx mir > butter)
 Paste
 Dimwalk (almost both sides)
 DLO (yes not a pixie trick but I hit it :) )

FINALLY have this concept. Feels so good. Now time to drill the shit out of it in the upcoming week.

Ow  Pain has been a dark cloud over me the past week. My back is finally better, which is nice. I think it was just a muscle strain, nothing involving the spine, which is a huge relief.

The left foot however is another story. It has been hurting for almost a month now, ever since the San Marcos jam  I went to the doctor, he took a look at it, twisted and pinched all different ways, most of which didn't hurt. It really only hurts going up and down steps, and torsion about the ankle. He's only a GP, not a specialist so he doesn't know everything. He said it was either a deep muscle tissue strain or a fracture. I got an x-ray the other day, they haven't called me back to tell me the results. I need to call and check in and see what the dealio is.

I'm still shredding, but the pain really limits my game :( Strong side spinning and strong side symposium hurt a lot and I am trying to avoid them at all costs, which is tough, becuase I really enjoy them. It's forcing me to only doing those concepts on my flipside which I guess is a silver lining.

Pixie set is still developing, but it's good to know I have it somewhat. I've been neglecting BOPs and it's starting to show, my consistency with them isn't what it was.

Anyways... session the other day. Word to the mother

10/11/06, 1 hr 45 minutes
with Cody and John
 Cody is working on his game and I think shredding solo a lot. Definitely an "old" dog learning new tricks. He hit blur and ps whirl mid run, which are usually tough for him. He also had some attempts at trixie 8O (triple pixie), a challenge from Jeremy Mirken when he was in town. He hit it both times he tried it (one side only), but the last dex was questionable both times. "Clean enough to be thin" as they say. Also, he has been fooling around with surging set (one side only) and I've told him it looks good. So he schooled it some more and it's really coming along! I think he could totally hit bigwalk or surge if he just works on it some more.

 John is continuing to improve at a very rapid pace. I was worried about him neglecting his flipside, but this session it looks like he has made a concerted effort to work his flipside which is good. He was attempting and hitting all his moves on both sides (except for rev whirl). He hit mirage and butterfly both BSOS in seperate runs. Also his rev whirl is getting more under control such that he can hit other stuff out of it. He had a few runs where he was SHREDDING, like ~10 contacts 2's and 3's with a couple toe bails here and there.

 As for me, I was really limited by pain. I DID hit DLO a couple times (3rd and 4th time ever), smear and dimwalk again. Also, new trick, flip spinning clipper! Hooray! Not much else. Run length was terrible and I was getting fatigued really quickly. It's ok, I'll bounce back.

I'm very pumped for TEXAS STATEWIDES coming up, although my preparation for organizing the tournament has been minimal at best. In the past few days I've gotten several emails from people saying they are coming, which is cool. It should be a good turn out! Also the weather should have cooled down, which will be a good break. Summer just hasn't wanted to die in Texas this year. We will give it a furious sendoff with the tournament!

In other news in my life, I have decided to apply to graduate school for hopefully a masters in environmental engineering at the university of Texas. So I need to take the GREs, get my letters of rec together and hope for the best. The past 3 years working for the man I've saved up enough money to be able to do it. I was just thinking about my job and selling computer processors, it's not as noble work as people try to crack it up to be. Bottom line is I work for a company that's trying to make money no matter how green they say they are, they are just trying to make that green. I see so many problems in the world today, so many conflicts and things that need to be fixed. I'm often frustrated feeling like there's nothing I can do. I'm no good at politics, but I've got a good engineering mind and I think this would be the perfect way for me to contribute to the greater good. Living in Texas with summer riding well into October, I see global warming first hand. We've got to do something, I want to help. It will be good to go back to school and just get to do something I'm passionate about.

Well that's all, may your runs be long, your big tricks be monster and may the footbag gods be delighted with your shred.

Ahhh let's see... bloggy update.

My foot is NOT broken. Good news. YaY. Still hurts all the time though. It's not terribly painful, just chronic and very nagging. My doctor has been filibustering all week saying he'll get me a podiatrist referal. I hate doctors some times, they can be such asshats.

Didn't shred this past weekend. My mom was in town and I wanted to give my foot a rest. It helped a little, but there is something definitely wrong with the foot. Not sure what, but I need someone who really knows what they're doing to have a look at it.

Shredded on Wednesday with Cody and John

10/18/06 1 hour and 15 minutes
Session was cut short by the rain. We still would have played, but the motherfuckers who work at the tennis courts turned off all the lights when everyone left. Nothing of real note happened. Foot pain is still limiting me. I did hit smear twice, dimwalk once, and gyro mirage once. A few long tiltless drills. John decided to try his luck barefoot shredding and was very successful! He hit like 10 consecutive clipper barefoot plus osis>osis. I think he will be a barefoot shredder too! We put the Dexmaster 1000 to use! I guess John later hit DATW after the session partly in thanks to the DM1K.

Got home today to find Zeb Jackson's bags in my mailbox! Hooray! They're prizes for the event but I couldn't help but try them out. They fucking rock yo! They're even better than the one I played with in Portland. Great stitching Zeb! Haaa... so the really cool part was, when fooling around with them I tried to hit eggbeater. I just did it as an illusion with a really quick legover at the end. I footed it first attempt. I felt really close. I called my girlfriend over "check out my new trick!". In front of her I hit EGGBEATER! It's funny because whenever I ask her to watch I never hit anything. Yay! New trick. I'm starting to see how this move could actually be easier than DLO. I've footed it a bunch of times since then, but cleanly sealed once. Hooray!

Well tournament is this weekend. I can barely believe it.

Whew, so much to put here.

I turned 25 today. Hooray :)

Well, it was a blip on most ppl's radar but the Texas Statewide Tournament was this weekend. As it was the first real footbag event I organized I'd say it was a success. We had guys come in from as far as Oklahoma, South Carolina and Louisiana.

The Rinowski brothers are really cool guys. Ben is sooooo good! I had no idea he was the younger brother. He's only 17 and he rips! He makes so many hard moves look so easy! Louis has got some sweet moves. He hit backside blur in competition. His car got stuck in reverse on Sunday and we had this whole adventure to get it fixed and get over to the tournament. Fun times :)

It was cool meeting Rob and also some newbs from Lubbock who were able to make it down. Plus a bunch of random net players I had never met. I finally got to meet JR from Dallas. This guy has been playing footbag since 1982. He can hit some pretty wild freestyle shit, like sole > rake. He can also bust out new skool stuff like spinning osis. The guy has to be at least 40. He's also good at golf and net. Definitely an all-around awesome footbagger.

The shred level was great. Not US Open great, but definitely fun to watch. Some saw some really great stuff, and a bunch of people hit new moves. Ben R hit Bedwetter, Cody hit Mobius and Surge, Rob hit spinning osis and I taught Dustin a newb to hit Mirage and Illusion.

I hit spinning butterfly and eggbeater the Friday before the tournament :) I've also progressed on DLO to where it's much more consistent and I've even hit it mid run a few times. I want to integrate that into my game, it's a great solid downtime 3. Flip is close, but no cigar yet. Also working on strong toe and strong PDX flavors. Gyro feels friggin impossible at this point. I had this dream I hit spinning DLO for the comps. Maybe just maybe I'll pull it off. That would be awesome first 5 :)

I went running on Monday in an effort to do some cardio, to try to boost my endurance and up my string length. I ended up getting shin splints   :x :x

I haven't shredded since Sunday. It's raining today. Maybe I'll get out there after work. It's my birthday, I do what I want.
