Phasing Nomenclature

Post by sampotter »

Just curious how people thought phasing trick names should work in terms of same side and op side tricks after the phase? I feel that this component is used frequently enough that it deserves a pedantic discussion. :)

Should toe>same out>op back swirl>op in>op toe be phasing mirage or phasing ss mirage? Should the same side/op side descriptor be contingent on the fairy part of the set or swirl part of the set? It seems like it would make more sense for it be contingent on the swirl component since it seems like the most common phasing tricks are hit on the same side as the fairy. But then again the set is a toe>ss dex set which makes me want to refer to the previously describe move as phasing ss mirage, keeping step with fairy ss mirage.

Thoughts?

To me phasing implies ss. So opposite(or paradox, but I'm not going there  ) should be used for moves like phasing "infinity". So in my book frankenstein is phasing swirl and the moe your Jobed is phasing mirage. Saying ss would be redundant. And a right foot fairy left foot swirl left foot mirage would be phasing op mirage.

i doubt I'll ever hit the trick, but I would say phasing sameside mirage for that trick, or even just phasing mirage.

If it was the other one I would say phasing paradox mirage

Thanks for the input, I'm of the same opinion (Nate/Cameron).

But there isn't any inconsistency... the fairy and the swirl are on the same SIDE... so when refering to "phasing same side" or "phasing op side" I don't see how there could be any confusion.

Nevermind... :) I had what I wanted to know cleared up, if you can't connect with how I was thinking about it I can't say I'm going to try and clear it up. ;)

Ugh.

Gone are the days when trick nicknames were helpful -- easier than saying the complex set of technical elements. Now there are just so many that the technical name is much better understood. Some used to be 'plays on words', but now it's just segments of streams of thought from the inventor's brain.

This is why I've stopped naming tricks. Only new sets and downtime components really need them anyways. There are just too many combinations of uptime+downtime moves to be assigning random words to.

Back on topic  -- phasing nomenclature isn't overly hard. There is phasing ss mirage and phasing far mirage. Paradox is misleading b/c technically there is no paradox -- unless this is changed officially sometime in the future.

So yeah, ss and far. Don't even need to say what leg does the next dex.

Lata,
