One stitch = 2 holes

Just to clarify for those who misunderstand

Now we can continue our stitching discussions without confusion, especially when discussing the # of stitches and holes when people use the terms synonymously

Your stupid definition is only able to take into account even numbers of holes!

How would you describe a bag with 5 holes? 2 and a half stitches?

Just say hole and we'll all be satisfied, not confused and arguing.

The tone of my reply was in response to his dictatorial tone where he was trying to lay down the law... but he was doing so with flawed logic.

Tom: I dont' think Joshua was trying to impose a definition/rule on us, just trying to be helpful.

What do you mean by 2 and 1/2 stitches? This doesn't make sense to me.
I think stitch amounts should only be described by the number of stitches on the pent side.

--- 3 stitch pattern is 3 stitches going through the pent side.

-- 2 stitch pattern is 2 stitches going through the pent side.

The hexs shouldn't even be described because almost everyone puts 1 hole through the hex. Where you start and where you stop(to tie off) is a different case because it does sort of involve half stitches. (Is that what you mean?) I just count the 2 holes being tied off where a stitch would be as a stitch.

This might not make sense. Just my thoughts.
Oh yeah, this may not work on non-32 panel bags.

so if i were to say i use a 4-6 stitch pent side pattern, i mean i have 4-6 punctures in each patch from both sides? or would it be 8?

there are different kinds of stitching outside footbag... a stitch doesnt always equal two holes.

i use holes to describe bags. usually pent first and hex next. that way there is ZERO confusion.

theres the ever popular 6/8 hole stitch method, some have experimented with 4/6 holes creating a more star like pent shape... and others like myself prefer an odd number of holes ive recently experimented with a couple different 5/7 hole models. lets not try and make exclusionary definitions...

"stitch" varies also when you do more panels on a bag than 32. cause when you go around the pent you connect at the hexes. some dont bother.

everyone knows what the word "hole" means. and everyone has a general idea of what "stitch" means. i feel this thread was somewhat uneccessary. "stitch" and "hole" are mentioned many other times in this forum already. this is redundant if you ask me.

Some sewing machines do elaborate stitches consisteing of dozens of holes to the stitch.
