Joshua Lackey - Solo Shredder?
Heeeeey People!!!!
So when I started playing footbag about a year ago, I carried around a piece of paper on which I would write all my new moves. Then it got full, then I lost it, then I started learning new concepts, then I got worried.
You see, I post often in the FAT footblog, but with KICKASS and other shred plans dominating the thread, and my wanting a somewhat more personal space to keep track of things, I'm starting my new piece of paper right now. This blog.
My progression in footbag is starting to pick up.
In the last week I've hit these for the first time:
Blurriest strong side
Spinning Ducking bs
Gyro Diving bs
flip DATW in and out
Zulu Butterfly strong side
Zulu Clipper bs
4x consecutive Ripwalks, #5 footed
Diving Clip > Ducking Clip > rpt
Dlo > Legbeater strong side
That's all that springs to mind. At least I'll have a place to write my new accomplishments without cluttering up the FAT blog. Besides, taking a page from a lot of other players with blogs, lucky readers might also get a glimpse of the man on top of the feet.
Hope you all enjoy. I plan on it.

Today I played with Mike from FAT. There were others who said they might show up, but it ended up being just us two.
Mike is always moving forward in consistency, diversity, and confidence. He drives me to hit new things as well, which I view as a huge plus in a shred buddy... though I've never played with anyone who didn't inspire me in some way or another... which I like.
Myself, though string length and general playability suffered today, I found some concepts starting to sink in and consider the session to be a positive one all in all.
Highlights:
Flip Torque getting close.
Reverse Swirl bs
all my DATWs becoming more smooth
Blah. Went to a Blue Jays game. We beat the Red Sox. I was happy, as there was a lot of Sox fans at the Skydome. We're not in Boston. Eat it.

Today felt good. I played for a couple hours all on my own, and not only did I feel virtually no pain in my legs, but there are so many concepts that I feel are starting to click for me or at least are close to being within my grasp.
Session Outcomes:
Footed Stepping Whirl
Strong Down Double Down first time
My CLEANEST BARFLY ever, both dexes at mid/high shin level.
Pixies both sides becoming more natural and effortless (PLO x5)
Flip Fairy beginning to develop
Alpine Legbeater
Some flip DSO, DATW, a few Terrages bs
Worked my sick 3
I love double dexes. So much. And Gyro Diving. I find it so rare, at least I don't think I've ever seen it on video or live. It's still pretty hard for me, and takes at least a few tries to hit anything with it, even Clipper... another work in progress! I do love to work on footbag!
And I almost forgot! I finally completed the Clipper drill!!!
110 Consecutive Clippers, 1x right side, 1x left, 2x right, etc all the way to 10 bs = 110. Yay!

KICKASS2 is over.
For my first tournament ever, I have to say it was a great time. As I sit here I realize if I write everything down it will be a long long post.
I ended up competing in the intermediate Circle Competetion, and ended up making it to the finals and placing third overall, which is great in itself, but I'm still a little disappointed. I realize now that Circle comps are not just about having the best consistency, moves, or endurance (not that I do, at all!) as much as it is still being able to shred 'til the last circle after having been playing for the last day and a half straight. My legs were REALLY sore the whole time, and today I can barely walk! I'm done complaining though, because though I feel I could have done better, it's time for me to share the best part about the intermediate results.
My home club, FAT, had 3 people of 4 in the final circle, and the other was Ben Roscoe, who may as well be as far as I'm concerned, because this guy is one of the nicest you'll meet. AND he ended up winning, which he absolutely deserved despite not having consistent shred partners in his home town, which just makes him even more incredible. PROPS BEN! However, I'm INTENSLY JEALOUS of you for winning Matt Cross bag #50.
Taking second was Dan 'Skippy' Cyr, displaying some great pixie and symple technique and winning a Footfighter, if I'm not mistaken. Way to go Dan, I'm proud of you and hope this near win motivates you even further!
Last but certainly not least, our very own shredita Camille Surovy rounded out the final circle, and I'm so happy the only female to enter the comps made it so far! Camille, you were so nervous and surprised about advancing, and it was one of the cutest things ever, seeing this girl who's normally so cool and collected in such an excited state! Camille's sole stalls, outsides, and general kooky cool style did her well in the long run, and I'm proud to have played beside her in the finals!
Go Ben, Dan, Camille, and especially everyone else who did the intermediate circle competition!
I met a lot of crazy and super friendly people, and I've decided not to list names in case I forget anyone, so know this: If you talked to me, only said hello, ever made eye contact with me, or never even got introduced, I respect you, I am happy to have been there with you, and more than anything else, I share with you a common love of footbag that is more important than whatever we don't share.
I may (indeed I intend to) write more later, because there's more I want to talk about and have here to reread myself later.
Finally, my most heartfelt thanks to Tom, Peng, and KFM, you made this KICKASS amazing.

Josh, thanks so much for coming.
I am proud of you for not only competing but for doing so well. You represented hard and were keen all weekend.
Keep playing and loving footbag and keep going to tournaments!
I look forward to seeing you sometime soon. Maybe I should come play with FAT soon!
Congrats again!

Thanks very much, Tom! I plan to compete Open next KICKASS, so watch out!
I bought two bags at KICKASS2, and recieved a 3rd from Fletcher Funk that I ordered last week. Pic: Pengbag on top, Matt Cross bag #42 on bottom right, and Funk's on the left.
The Funkbag will stay for a few sessions with me, but I think my brother will be buying it eventually. It's a sweet bag, slightly bigger than average, and it will break in beautifully and be a great bag for encouraging more novice freestyle! Yes!

It was definitely fun meeting and shredding it up with you. Seriously a bombastic experience!
More will be expected with KICKASS3. I can't wait!

"Footbag can be pretty frustrating when it's supposed to be fun. I was partly driven by this forum - practice, practice, practice... As that is true, I think someone can be too focused on progressing and training that they miss the fun aspect of it." - Bander87

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement.
I won't be around this weekend, which sucks. Holidays probably make good times to play, since everyone is back in the city visiting family. However, on holidays I'm always out of the city visiting family. Next year I should tell them to come to my apartment for Thanksgiving. We'd not all fit, as some of you know, but it would mean I could play more. Oh well, I'll play at home. I do miss my family.
So footbag, huh? It's not bad. I had a loong session with Greenwood the other day and though my legs got sore rather fast, the more I played the better they got... which is a little strange, but I'm not one to argue with a lack of pain.
I'm happy with the bags I got at KICKASS. They came just in time, as I had to retire my Roscoe bag and my Mirken will have to start sitting out more sessions for the same reasons.
Anyway, turkey, here I come. Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving!

Had a mostly solo session today at York U. My legs felt better for one of the first times really since KICKASS, and it propelled me to try some new things and work on some other ones.
Highlights:
Motion a BUNCH of times. I love how today I not only realized that I can do Motions, but also that they're not very hard for me.
New Ducking b2b record of 10
Diving Clip > Ripwalk bs
A nice tight 30 contact tiltless run with about 20 uniques.
Worked flip Pixie and Double out dexes, including Paradon and DSO
Footed Skullsmasher a BUNCH of times without getting a clean seal... it came up just out of reach more than once.
So all in all, a good session. I'm happy. I'll probably play tomorrow too although I should be studying...

Sorry to the dedicated readership for the double post.
I wanted to figure out how many 5's I've hit, just out of curiosity.
Phoenix bs
Blurry Whirl bs
Spinning Ducking Osis bs
Pdx Blender bs
Pdx Dada Curve bs
Tomahawk
Matador
Gyro Diving Osis
Alpine Legbeater
Blurriest
Motion
Reactor (5?)
I think that's it. If you count Reactor, it's 17. I thought it was less

Session today with A.B. at York.
Adrian has potential... and Laver's... but not enough time, unfortunately, to get into quick improvement.
For myself...
Highlights:
Diving Clip > Ripwalk bs
Duckin Butter b2b
32 contact tiltless run after "I need a 20+ contact run."
Spinning Clip > Ducking Clip b2b
5x Ripwalk (6 footed)
Flip DSO / DATW
Some Flip Atomic
The more I play, the better I get. I like that. Minus shin problems (I really want to try new shoes), I feel like solid guiltless can come by Christmas, as Greenwood predicted.

Had two sessions this weekend.
#1 - Saturday
At Ryerson with Mike, Johnny, Jon, Camille and Greenwood. We started out in a Ryerson building but ended up moving outside, deciding we could brave the cold. It turned out to be okay, a little chilly, but we broke up our big circle into two 3's and that helped everyone keep warm. Besides, we were out where people could see us, in a nice scenic spot.
It's always nice to shred with people I don't see that much, especially when they're so good. I'm always getting inspired when I'm around this group.
The big news for me was that Mike sold me his G-Units! I played exclusively in them this weekend to trya nd stretch them out (as they are SLIGHTLY too small, but still work great). They treated my legs better and, I feel, helped my pixies and some other toe moves.
We played from 3:30 til about 7:00, then I went to a friend's to watch the Leafs win over Calgary. Bonus!
#2 - Sunday
My little lady Nicole had to go to the zoo to collect some observations on Pygmy Marmosets. Well, I never turn down the zoo, or a good opportunity to play footbag, so I brought my gear along and had a sweet couple hour session outside the America's Pavilion.
Again, it was slightly cold at first, but the sun made a habit of coming out now and then and with the shred I kept fairly warm. A lot of people stopped to watch, and I usually didn't disappoint, keeping it simple and flowy, usually about 20-30 Power Tiltless with lots of ducks and a few spins too!
All in all, a great weekend for footbag.
Highlights:
10 PLO in a row, by far a new record
Pixie ss Clipper > Stepping ss Clipper bs
Smear, Smudge, Dyno midrun a bunch
Swirl, Rev Swirl becoming easier all the time
Better flip Drifters
Osis b2b x about 30, I lost track in the low 20s
Stepping ss Osis b2b first try
There may be more, but homemade pizza calls. Leave me a message!
