Hi, Emily. I imagined that some girl with short, blonde hair I saw at work was you today. Then I wondered how cool that would be if you really did just randomly show up at my work one day and how I'd react. Yeah. You aren't the only person I've done that with (I'm such a lonely idiot haha), but I just thought I'd say hi and share that.
Chrissy Fryer
I'm sorry, but I had an Emily way before I met you, and I can have all the Emilies I want. You will have to share. So there.
I know how to change a spare too, but I've never actually done it and didn't want to have to do it if I didn't need to. The way my luck was going, all the bumps in the road would slowly unscrew the bolts until they fell off, and the tire would roll away, and the car would slide into the other lane, and we'd play chicken with a big rig and wreck and die? Yeah. So I left it up to a complete stranger. Haha.

Hi Chrissy.
I'm glad I was in my own car too, Jeremy.
Tom, I can’t wait for NYJ. It would be great to have the Freedom crew out. If it's anything like ever, it’s going to be so fun I can’t stand it. Now I just need to buy my expensive-as-hell plane ticket.
Wed. 9/27: I kicked a little with ET, Fletch and Jeremy in Capitola Village.
Fri. 9/29: Session at UCSC with Fletch and Dustin. There were three people who were interested in learning, and two of them were women. A 4th person gave me his business card and said he’d give me breakdance lessons in exchange for footbag lessons. I don’t know if that will turn out but it would be fun to try.
Sun. 10/1: Kicked with Matt, Dustin, Fletch and EJ at City Hall in SC. We learned that it is not a good surface for the shred mats. Afterwards was 4-square on the sidewalk, fun.
Tonight:
Session tonight in the Aptos shred garage, it had been a long while. Fletch and Jeremy. Yay for Jeremy playing freestyle.
Longest/best session I’ve had in a while; broke a good sweat and smelled like footbag at the end of the session, mmmmm.
I worked on stepping because I was having so much trouble doing anything with it. I got blur on both sides which I hadn’t been able to do recently. Tried flip spinning, did a 29 contact tiltless run, worked on pixies with smear and plo, practiced crispy torque. I hit plo>plo x4 which beat my old record by one, I think. Tried stepping out of osis. Those are my only highlights from a two hour session, so that gives you some idea…
I liked being in a three-person circle, the energy from Jeremy and Fletch was awesome.
Got home
Wanted to do the motion for flip whirl 50 times but realized I was too tired. So I did something that I felt I would do well. Although I tried a lot more, I actually hit 25 plo’s each side. I did plo>plo a bunch of times. I did plo>plo x5 two different times which is my new record.
In other news, I recently fixed my first 32. It’s an Abshire that Zeke gave me for my birthday in 2004. Sometime in early 2005 (I think) a thread broke and it started leaking, so at that point I thought it was permanently retired since it had been so well used until that point. I didn’t feel comfortable fixing bags then, but I am very happy with how it turned out.
Non-footbag:
A few days ago I got rear-ended while at a stop light- still no sign of whiplash or anything, so that’s good. I am trying to find a new used car because I have to get rid of mine within the next few days for several reasons. Tomorrow I’m picking up a loaner car from my sister’s friend.
I helped with roof work today. Last week I helped someone cut up firewood using a chainsaw and wood splitter. It’s fun.
I’m excited about this weekend since my father is coming to visit for the first time since I moved to CA.
I'm glad I was in my own car too, Jeremy.

you should take the break dancing lessons so you can invent "emily's tail"... a breakdancing footbag move! plus that totally works you out in your legs, back, and arms.
that sucks about your car but its good youre not hurt. when i drove to school today there was a guy that got stuck in the middle of a three car pile up. he had rear ended someone and then someone rear ended him. i dont think he turned out alright.
nyj will rock. brian and i got a good deal on tickets with americanairlines... but it was still expensive. and it will be more expensive since your coming from cali. but its better than driving.
have fun this weekend! keep steppin!

I see the Mike Hansen reference, and after looking at the picture on the right for a while it looks kind of what I remember Mike's baby picture looking like. Did you see that on Modified? It's on here somewhere.
In the picture by himself on the right he looks almost like my 2nd high school boyfriend Brad Kutsler (upside down only). Oh yeah, that was great. We were uncomfortable around each other but held hands in the hallway. We didn't talk on the phone or hang out outside of school. Then one day he passed me a note that said he wanted to take our relationship to the next level. I wrote back "no" worded differently- then his next note was a break up note. Aww, poor 13 year old Emily.

Last night (Monday 10/9/06) Fletch and I were going to hang out but I wanted to have a small schooling session too. I mainly worked dynos, but did a little spinning clipper (shudder), stepping, and pixie work too. I did butter>dyno>ss butter>dyno. I want to learn to step out of a ripwalk again, because I can't do it right now.
This morning I woke up to both of my calf muscles cramping up like crazy. I was so tired that I tried to sleep through it; it was awful. I tried to stretch them out after I got up, but they were still sore to the touch most of the day. I drank enough water yesterday and I've been taking a daily multivitamin so I'm not sure why it happened. I hate waking up that way, one, then the other, then both at once.
I think I'm playing tomorrow in Capitola. I think I'm doing 1.5 hours of schoolwork tonight before I go to sleep tonight.
What else…. Oh, I randomly (as usual) ran into the illustrious Matt Kain on Monday morning. My sister, father and I were walking around the construction site of a hotel and MK was riding his bike past where we were walking. My father’s hand still hurt 10 minutes after MK shook it, and my father is not a flimsy man. We chatted for a few and he seems to be doing well. For anyone who has not met him, MK’s has a very casual and subtle humor that gives him the ability to make anyone around him laugh.
I love being around that type of person, but I always feel like I must be boring to them since I am not a comedian by any means. But very few people are very funny, so I'll assume that I'm no more boring than most people are. Safe bet, I’d say.
Looking forward to SJFF.
I can’t wait for… NYJ
Oh yeah, I made a class-mate cry tonight. She didn't really cry, just started to. Didn't really mean to do that.

Oh you guys.
Hey Daniel. Nice picture in your signature.
Tonight's session was in Capitola Village. I got there at a little after 5:30 and left at about 7:20pm. ET, EJ, and a man named Mark(?) were kicking when I got there. Jeremy arrived a short time later. Mark is a Capitola circle kicker who tried toe stalls on his right side a few time and did several inside/toe kicks each turn.
-Daniel, I couldn’t do what you wanted but I did do dimwalk>drifter very easily and worked on schooling dlo's tonight. I hit a few, but I'm still far away from doing them on a regular basis.
-I did dynos for a little bit and got dyno>dyno>dyno.
-String of 41 tiltless, current record. Glad I finally broke 40.
-Tried ducking clipper both sides.
-Fairy ss butter bs, awkward on what should be the strong side
A guy named Max stopped to watch as we were finishing up. We were tired and it was so dark that we couldn't see the clean light-colored bag, but we kept going in hopes of getting him interested in trying it. I told him about .org and Wed/Sunday sessions. He told Jeremy about how he used to hack in high school with his friends but then it went out of style so they didn’t want to do it with him anymore. I think I have that right; I wasn’t paying as much attention as I could have been. Whoops. He also said that one day he was near the boardwalk in SC and a guy gave him a flier with some tricks on it, and I figured out that it was (obviously) the freedom flier. He said there were 6 or 7 people there that day. I figure it was probably a day near the Santa Cruz Invitational. The guy with the flier was probably Nick or Dat. Anyway, he has seen it twice and been invited out twice probably, so if he’s doesn’t get involve it’s not for lack of us trying.
Jeremy was talking about consistent sets and how you never have to move to the side for legover>legover if your set is straight, and how your feet stay in the same place. That reminded ET of seeing Julie at an event once a long time ago. I’ll paraphrase as best I can:
Previous signature: "Syd Barrett was Pink Floyd's leader until he lost his mind. Barrett claimed "Emily" was a girl he saw when he woke up one night after sleeping in the woods after a gig. It is unclear if she was a real person or a drug-induced hallucination."
Hey Daniel. Nice picture in your signature.
Nope, can't do those. For a while I was pretty sure I wouldn't do any drifters again because I have a problem with my back and the twisting seemed bad. For the same reason (but more so), I don't do torques. Plus that was the move I did for the first time on the first day my back condition emerged. It's too twisty for me. I started schooling crispy torque again recently, but I can't step out of drifter right now anyway so I can't do it. The 2nd one I can't do because I'm not good enough. And with the 3rd, I've only hit one in a row on each side. I'm working on it... tonight after hw.Daniel wrote:can you do

I still have to go to the gym later tonight. I like being a member of a 24 hour gym, I don't know if I would be a member of a gym if it weren't open past 10 or 11pm.Sam Conlon was warming up for the consecutives competition, you know doing a couple thousand kicks. Later when she walked away I looked at the grass she had been standing on and saw two little marks where her feet were. The kicks were all in the same place; she didn’t move at all.

Friday:
I kicked a for a little bit with Dustin and Fletch at Porter College, UCSC. I arrived about 45 minutes late because I had forgotten my shoes... at the worst traffic time of the day. I didn't forget them, I just thought they were in the car where I had planned on leaving them. I forget everything else from time to time but I never forget my shoes, it was frustrating.
Sunday:
Frederick St Park:
Session with Dustin, Matt Marks, and later Max (the guy in Capitola I just talked about). Angel came over from net to kick with us for a few minutes and came really close to mirage for the first time. With skater shoes on, Max could do butterfly on one side, a few toe stalls, and his inside stalls were okay too. He seems interested, that's always good. Ooh, Matt hit datw and the dexes were so small and nice.
-I didn't do anything worth remembering except that I hit legbeater after trying a bunch of times and sealed it with pdx mirage (bsos) to maybe 5 other contacts.
-I tried ducking clippers again. Still at the same place = no good.
After people were done kicking, Max’s friend Zach gave handstand/walking handstand/back handspring/back flip lessons to whoever wanted them.
At home:
Put on my Lavers and POWERMAN 5000 - Tonight the Stars Revolt.
-On my 3rd try I hit legbeater again, then after a ton of tries it I did it another time, and finally a 4th time.
-Tried flip. I footed it a total of 10 times, dropped it around 25 times, and hit it twice- to a hand catch each time. I’m surprised I was not atrocious on my flip side.
That’s a fun move. I'm concerned that I'm doing it with bad style since I got it a bunch of times on the first day. We'll find out and work on that.
I'm really glad I was able to kick today. Last night Fletch and I went to a Midnight Mystery Movie Marathon. It went from midnight to noon, but we left around 7:30am after the 4th movie. I slept through most of the last one, got home and slept from 8am-11:30am, then I was up for the day. I don't know how I'm still awake but I'm going to sleep well tonight.
EDIT: Dustin and I both happened to be wearing black shorts and Chicago shirts today. His was a grey shirt from a trip to the Art Institute and mine was a white CIC shirt.
