Thx guys
I can't help it... I want my drifter rec to be higher and higher! hehehe. I didn't realise all these people read my blog... thx
Thursday 12th October
Length: 1 hour
Drilled: Whirl, Drifter, Rubberman, BOPs, Illusion.
Super hard session, it's like 30 degrees celcius and it's only halfway through spring. This summer is going to be a killer (quite literally.... bushfires will be off the charts this year
)
Drilled whirl a bit, but not much. Rubberman was crap, only got all the way through once. Bops were alright... drifter didn't do much.
Man, I think I just fooled around for half the session, the heat drained the energy out of me
to think we've got about 4 months ahead before it starts to cool down again...
Started working on rubberman with Illusions again... got blizzard > omelette > legbeater bs. Flipside blizzard is so crud...

Hey dude, I thought instead of clogging Mads thread we could disscuss a little more in here... Maybe bring some more traffic threw here yah know
ok here are the 2 posts:
Have you put out many shred vids? Online comps are "suposed" to be critisized I guess, but footbag movies are for entertainment. They take lots of work, LOTS. And to question subjective artistic dessicions underminds the choices of the artist.
Anyway I guess I'm just a fan of "if you can't say sumthing nice don't say anything at all" when it comes to art, and footbag movies.
OK... lets hear what you, and others, have to say
PS- if you don't wanna have this discussion here, tell me and I'll edit this out with some props on your game
ok here are the 2 posts:

IMO even "constuctive critisism" is bullshit. Anyone who makes vids is a footbag hero in my book. And at the rate mads puts them out, he is the footbag GOD. Mads works are pieces of art, and can't be improved upon, period!
Try telling Eric Clapton, "this is how to make your music better" and see how many FREE songs he gives you in the future. James E stopped making shred vids because of "constructive critisism", I pray Mads doesn't do the same.
haha my third post in this topicI've got plenty left too!
luv,
hmmm well taking away the mads rocks and shouldn't stop, and my ussual randomness from my original post you are left withjames_dean wrote:Sorry Nate, but I couldn't disagree more.
Except with the part about mads rocking for popping amazing vids out like nothing else. Definately agree with that. That certainly would be a massive loss of mads went that way.
So I assume this is what you completely disagree with. I can understand that. However I think you to would be a bit frustrated if you put days and weeks into a project, and get it critisized, especially since it is ALL subjective anyway. Some people say, comments or critique welcome, he notibly didn't.shreddaily wrote:IMO even "constuctive critisism" is bullshit. Anyone who makes vids is a footbag hero in my book.... sick.
It is notable that he didn't say critiques welcome... I guess I view it as, if they say no critiques thx, then leave it be, otherwise, it's free.
I haven't made many shred vids (2, actually) but I have produced somewhere in the vicinity of 20, probably more, non-footbag related videos in the past year. I understand how much effort goes into producing something of this nature. Certainly comps are a completely different thing altogether.
In my opinion, if constructive criticism is presented in a respectful way it is a good thing. Sam was respectful. Sure, he didn't say much positive... but he was respectful. He was trying to help at the very least. I definately see your point that it is art, and that may be the artists choice. That's where the artist has the choice to either take the criticism, or reply with "Thanks, but this is how I like to do it. This is my art and this is how I like to do it" or whatever. There's a difference between subjective decisions and bad video work (I am not saying mads work was bad, I haven't even seen it, definately a general statement
)
Another consideration is that the artist in question may wish to produce videos that cater to his audience, as opposed to what he may like best. In that case, hearing people's opinions is vital, otherwise how does he know if he's doing something they don't like?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aside from that, I feel that Mads response was highly immature. I've never seen him act this way before so maybe he was just having a bad day, we all have them. I know I do
Aren't you gonna give me props anyway?

mehhh pretty good response
.. I just got a new job too btw.
And for the record this is the post that turned me away from critz.
Not sure what I'm getting at here, maybe nothing. keep shredding, I sure will. peace
EDIT:no no dude that quote was from an OLD vid, a CSS 6 vid to be exact. I guess I worded my description poorly.

The same type of "do like I say and your vids will be better" attitude was posted on a vid that James Erickson, and I a little, worked on. And I flipped out too. ticked me right off. If we do ever put out a vid again we will take your "no crit. plz" advise.QuantumBalance wrote:Thanks for the video! I liked it. I felt strange about the end though, a good video does not have to say the end, the music got all crazy but you kept the video in slo-mo and then faded out the music. It felt anti-climactic. But, that's okay, I'm only telling you this so that, the next time you make a video, you will make a better one

Ha. I don't even remember seeing that post. Must've been reading too quick. I wonder if they're gonna crucify me for defending sam.... hehe. Who knows, someone needed to anyway, I dunno. I'll say I was drunk or something if it all goes sour
Yeah, that attitude has a bit too much ego in it... but flipping out definately isn't the right response. A calmly worded response telling him you disagree, and this is the kind of video you like, or whatever, would gain more respect and the original comment would lose credibility. Not that I think either is right as such, as you said it's artistic choice.
Basically I think people are too sensitive. And flip out too easily. I'm gonna go warm my hands on the flames.

Not to clog your blog, but I thought I could easily say a couple things here instead of on the video thread, since you guys are a bit cooler and more level-headed anyway.
I think you need to get away from the thought that just because "we don't like Sam" we shouldn't get pissed off at him. The fact is that Sam has really bad credit here because he's consistently done this kind of immature stuff for a long time. Which is why I think people end up being prone to explosion when Sam criticizes them. I know that I always entertain the idea of buying a camera and putting a video online but I kind of lose interest because I'm scared of it quickly getting away from the point of the video: shred. Undoubtedly Mads knows who Sam is, and I know that if I woke up one morning, excited to see what people had written about my video, and I'll had found was my thread degenerating into a cesspool of people yelling at each other because Sam did his thing I would be PISSED.
Anyway, whatever.
I hope everyone meets each other on this forum sometime so people know that we're all generally cool people and that most of don't mean to be such unbearable ass holes online.
Cheers,
sp

Great news about getting the job. Don't forget: if you get hookers be sure to be a gentleman and bring a box of wine. Or some Champaign. The ladies love that.

Hey, I'm paying good money, I don't have to buy those bitches wine!! OK... maybe some fruity lexia
(Cheap $5 casks of wine, if you don't have that in the US. Nasty stuff)
I don't care about blog clogging. It disguises the fact that I'm posting so little sessions in here lately
Yeah. I understand how people could be more prone to get pissed when it's Sam. Also I can see how the direction the thread took would piss him off major, would really piss me off too! Which is why I was extremely uncomfortable posting more about it there but... I felt I had to. I just disagreed with what was going on. And Mads exploded straight after Sams post, THAT is when it degenerated. In my opinion it's Mads own fault it went that way.
I honestly think though, that Sam was trying his best. Like Ellis posted... he was really trying to post constructive criticism. And then he apologised (even though he did nothing wrong) and tried to patch it over but people seemed determined not to listen to him. This wasn't Sam's fault, IMO.
Agreed re: the last bit. Even the people I think were being asses in that topic, I have heard and am sure they're super cool in person. (Hell, they're super cool online 99% of the time as well)
I hope I get to meet you all sometime. Time to start saving, now that I have a full time job
Peace.
p.s. visit australia, we're cool, despite what henry would say
