Animal Farm Manipulated into Government Propaganda
Animal Farm by socialist George Orwell was written in an intellectual analysis of the Russian Revolution. Years later it was transformed from book form to cartoon movie and financed discretely by the CIA. The differences were to modify it into a scare campaign against communism by removing the similarities from the book and American government before it became a movie shown in schools.
Alcohol’s evils are removed from the movie. While it does show Jones in the tavern and the pigs in the end drinking, it lacks the entire metaphor which the written form contained. Old Major warns the animals of man’s ways, of which is alcohol. The animals are forbidden from possession and consumption of alcohol, as it would lead them down the same path Jones took; alcohol was the segway for Jones’s abuse of the animals and neglect for the farm.
Not only did the pigs eventually begin to drink, but even began to produce their own alcohol! Jones’s own alcohol consumption most likely began as light before becoming serious. The pigs not only did trod directly over one of the main commandments, but without reason other than personal desire. The animals were able to comprehend the necessity to kill, as that modification was met with little resistance; but alcohol is what brought the pigs directly to human level and was what truly led to their downfall. Not only were the pigs privately drinking, but then began to use the animals food sources to produce it. This symbolized the near transubstantiation of pig to human by using alcohol to fuel their own needs and fully neglecting that of the other animals.
This was left out of the movie because American government also passed a prohibition act which it repealed. For the blatant similarity to be flashed across the screen would be self detrimental. Not only did they leave that out for the sake of themselves, but to not offend the current mindset of alcohol loving Americans. Thus, the CIA neglected a metaphor symbolizing the evil of man, which was also the downfall of the pig, so as to not shine a spotlight on recent American history and keep the direction of the movie focused on anti-communistic propaganda.

Jones’s own alcohol consumption most likely began as light before becoming serious.

Such assumptions should always be avoided in literary criticism. Drinking among common farmers in England was rampant, and probably didn't begin light. I give this an F.

sure america loves alcohol. so does every other country. the way you word this sentence makes it seem that youre trying to say that anti-communisits are the only ones that drink. maybe they left the drinking scene out of the movie because kids in school are going to see the movie and at the time the movie was made, alcoholic behavior wasnt something the cia wanted americans to see. that movie was released in 1955. the exorcist was released 20 or so years later and that movie was considered too much for the public then. in 1955 life was simple. simple life calls for simple movies.

For true Orwell read Homage to Catalonia and Down and Out in Paris and London. Animal farm was self described pop-culture literature from an otherwise excellent author.
