Yo I was all hyped about the new sony consumer cameras and I searched and searched and found a new one (reatail 799.00) for 529 new shipping included. Now that I have it... and have used it. Great image quality but lacking in a lot of things not the least of which is a "manual focus ring". It has touchscreen autofocus.
Touchscreen = WACK because when I touch the screen I move the camera so I can't be so fluid.
Panasonic makes some nice cameras. I saw one for 65,000 dollars that was SICK! Luckily for me I can sell my camear for about 4-500 dollars so minimal loss and I have some other money too so I'm gonna get a nice camera. But, not one that costs that much. I'm hoping to find one thats less than 1500 new adn get it for like 700 on ebay.. 700--1000
Anyone have any reconmendations?!

If u really wana go pro with your filming then you should consider shelling out a bit extra for an industrial camera.
I have seen some that are as low as $2600USD
Here is an example:

heh, but don't get the PD170P. That would be PAL. Honnestly, the PD170 isn't really worth the money. You'd be better off buying something much better for a little more $, or something almost as good for hundreds less. The PDX10 is the same as the PD170 but with a smaller lens and less light sensitivity; still a good image with as much control and ease of operation (and much cheaper). I have the PD100 which is the older version of that, and basically identical. I could sell it to you actually. Let me know if you're interested. New it was $2100 (retailed for $2500), and I have two big batteries. Not sure what I'd want for it, but I could entertain an offer.
Jere Vainikka shot BOTS with the VX2100, which is the same as the PD170 but DV instead of DVCAM. DVCAM uses the same tape but records 30% more data to the tape (runs it faster) so you're recording more color information. Otherwise all the same features and control. It's a good deal for the price. The PDX10 (and mine) comes with a wide-angle adapter, which is absolutely necessary, whereas you would need to buy one for the VX2100 or PD170. Keep in mind Sony is not the only good brand. Panasonic and JVC make good cameras in your price range. Stay away from Canon unless you're shelling out at least $10K.
A little tip is to do your produt searching on bhphotovideo.com, because they stock everything and give great details about the products (however propagandistic), then search for the best deals elsewhere when you decide what you want to get.
Good luck.
