Wow, Quebec must get more funding than Ontario per school, if you can afford to have nifty $5000 cam's...

Anyway, not that I am complaining about possibly getting awesome videos from this camera, but how can you justify selling a car to get a camera?

Awesome Sam!
Any chance you can post a review of the camera? Or a PM to me about it? Cos ive been seriously considering this camera for a while now but havent committed to it. Im cheap, what can i say lol

Its definitely a really nice camera, although im torn between it and the Canon XLS but its quite a bit more expensive.

What do u think of it?

Well, I haven't used it yet, but for once I did my homework. And I mean DID MY HOMEWORK! I spent about 4 hours a day for a week reading up at forums and websites. So, once I get it I'll tell ya, but basically this is ias follows.

The image quality is very nice! The low light performance is top notch, right on par with the pd170. It's minimum illumination is 1 lux which is great. Most Cameras in that range minimum illumination is 3 lux and yout average handy cam is 5 or 6 lux min! The sound is decent, but the mic doesnt have seperate controls for each channel and there is no XLR inputs for a pro shotgun mic, but supposedly you can purchase an adapter.

Basically this is not a professional camera that you could make a movie, say like B.O.T.S with... but its pretty damn nice and you could make a movie WAY better than Freestyle Reality.. cough...

Since I got mine so cheap, I'm hoping in the next 8 months to be able to sell it and purchase teh pd170. But for now I'm gonna learn the heck out of it.

Peace.

What features does it lack such that you think it wouldnt be good for 'movie' making? Is it like, 24fps progressive and stuff? Would the XLS PD 170 be better in that regard?

Yeah pd170 is better, don't feel like typin but it records in dvcam which is higher quality than dv, it has adjustable iris and gain... it has a build in xlr adapter for pro mic, while the vx2100 does not... blah blah.

About DVCAM, it is not better quality, it just is considered as more error free than regular DV-format. The resolution and framerate are just the same. What differs is that DVCAM-camera rolls the tape faster than DV-camera. A bit like SP vs LP.
BOTS was actually shot with that model Sam bought (well, the PAL-version but basically the same) and it is a very good camera for semi-professional productions. It doesn't have XLR-inputs but you can buy an adapter and then connect it in the 3,5mm jack. Of course cameras cabaple of 24p are better for movies but they also cost twice as much. You can shoot 25p with VX2100 but only in 4:3 mode. BOTS was shot in interlaced anamorphic widescreen (16:9) and then turned progressive in editing.

Sam, I hope you can get as much out of the camera as possible. I sold my equipment a month ago only because I didn't need them as much as before.
