In the next couple of weeks, I'm assigned an essay based on my observations of the culture of whatever I choose, and I think footbag is a strong and potential topic to bring up. Right now, I'm workshopping with the topic outline, and I just want some clarification on what I should be discussing in this essay (so that I don't rush and confuse my readers about this topic). It's purely a college level essay, so i can't slack off on my explanations on this great sport.
Basically, my general objective is to find out how I should deal with the attitudes, beliefs, and values (much emphasis here) that come with footbag.
I also don't want to go into a TON OF DETAILS about the sport of footbag, thus the concern.
Here's the construction of the outline that I was given, just in case anyone is curious:
TOPIC OUTLINE
1. The topic you have chosen
2. Your thesis statement about the topic (a sentence that should attempt universality).
3. What you hope to achieve by engaging this topic.
4. How the topic you have chosen is related to the general category it is intended to fit within (cultural self, obviously).
5. The structural approach to the topic that you plan to make (what you will do first, second, etc.)
6. The problems and difficulties, if any, that you foresee in writing this essay.
I suppose that I should explain footbag as a form of entertainment and a reflection of shared appreciation? I guess the reason why I made this topic is to get a brief understanding on how I should go about in doing this. I also don't want to go into a long and exaggerated explanation on the history of footbag, because that can take up a lot of pages. Any help in regards to my writings on this essay is greatly appreciated.
If this is unsuccessful (and I do have my doubts), I guess I can talk about movie buffs (actors/directors/critics maybe) and their cultural opposition to their current societal conditions. Or whatever.
