I just wish I could bring them back to 1998 with me, and make them wait the 8-12 months between videos with me.
...and then have to wait 45 minutes for it to download over a phone line, being totally blown away by a video of a blur (yes a single trick, 1Mo, ages to download ona blazingly fast state-of-the-art modem) and a drifter and then copying them onto diskettes so you could show your friends who didn't have internet access.

Yeah I remember those days! (well it wasn't 1998 but close to there)
I think I also remember that the dallasfootbagclub (was it?) site was THE place to get footbag vids.. aaah memories :)

Watched the footage we shot on Luis' camera and was real disappointed. Luis made a trial movie earlier which looked surprisingly good, but we learned that choppiness is pretty random when shooting, so a good 75% of what we shot is unusably choppy, and of the remaining 25%, we didn't have anything great. This really was disappointing, cause I was excited about some of the stuff we had caught on tape. Still, it was kinda cool re-watching some of it.

I guess I'll list the highlights, cause I can't show them:

*38 contact string with atomic drifter, smoke, a bed, some nice links, ending on flip pdx blender-osis seal.
*fog-atom-leg repeat to duck butter-blur-dimwalk-rip-rip-whirling swirl, some more contacts
*Jani-WHAT!?! with a ps egg in the seal.
*vortex-ducking butter-fog-smog-some other stuff.

In good news, I think we figured out where to borrow videocameras from campus, so hopefully that will translate into vids of our club in the future.

You're just movin all over the place! I actually still thought you were in AZ and I was gonna come visit. Oh well, I'll see you round. I think modified isn't so bad. I was one of those I'll never be back kids, but I did come back, and I don't talk about how modified sucks. I think theres not that many kids who do that. I think if you look at the majority or the people, its actually pretty nice. So, don't let a few people bring you down. I think it's really that simple.

edit: ARG!

I was kinda stressing out over a bunch of stuff yesterday, and was thiiiiiis close to not playing last night. But Pascal is a champ and agreed to pick me up in his car (it was snowing/slushing), so that sealed the deal. I'm so glad I played too. Not just cause I had a good session (which I did), but just cause footbag is my most effective stress-killer, so mentally I needed it.

Pascal and I had a 2 man session in the Ramin Room. That's where we're holding the event, and I really can't express how much I like the surface. At first it was pretty chilly in the room, and I had my doubts about whether I'd be able to properly warm up enough to shred. I played in a t-shirt and gloves, and that was good enough to allow me to shred hard.

Pascal played well. His osii are much more natural looking, and he's able to play out of them with butterflies now. He's been drilling BOP stuff, which I think is a good approach to eventually moving in a guiltless direction.

I felt like I had a very good mental game all session, and that translated into lots of highlights. In rough order of how happy I was with them:

Highlights:

*DLOx15
*pdx whirl x12 (I "the"d the crap out of #13, so after hitting #14, I decided it was pointless to continue)
*Blurry whirl x2 bsos.
*pdx drifter x4 flip, x9 on strong (new personal record!)
*bl. whirl-blurry drifter for my first time in that direction.
*A run with pdx egg, pdlo, ripwalk, blur, ducking butterfly, spinning clipper, pdx whirl, symp pixie all bsos. Over 30 contacts.
*ps whirl x4. New record! :D I felt like Felix in smooth criminals...they were all real controlled and clean. Will try for more next time.
*69 contact guiltless string with good variety, but low difficulty. Apparently I had a thin pdx illusion in the 60s somewhere, but still, 60 contact guiltless is cool.
*Guiltless string while moving the entire length of an indoor soccer field. 8)

Oh, and back on August 15th I wrote:

I think my future rubberman goals will be:

#bl. whirl-rubberman repeat
# rubberman x2
# fog rubberman again.
And last night I hit:

*flurry- {atom smasher-legbeater-blur}repeat-dimwalk-{ducking butter-diving butter} repeat-pdx whirl-pdx whirl
*blurry whirl-rubberman-blurry whirl
*rubberman x2!

Very excited about that last one, since it was completely controlled throughout, and I sealed it with a few more tripless contacts. So in my last 3 sessions, I've hit fog rubberman, rubberman x2, and bl. whirl-rubberman-bl. whirl. Love footbag. I love it.

Did a footbag demo at an elementary school that went well. The kids were told to applaud whenever they saw something they liked, which meant they were the best audience I've ever had. I hope the audience at next week's show is as good.

Had a 2-man session with Luis today. In theory I don't like 2 man sessions cause I fear I'll tire quickly, but at the same time it also means I get more touches with the bag, and am freer to try harder stuff. I ended up having a real good session, and my last 2 man session with Pascal was also real fun.

Luis hadn't played footbag in a week, and as is often the case, his first session back was real solid. I predict his legs will kill him tomorrow though. I gave him some tips on osis, and it improved visibly. I was real impressed with legover x7, a new record. He's also started hitting infinity x2 in both directions.

I started off the session just messing around with random stuff, and then I spent a real long chunk working on blubberman (which I had never hit before), and then I closed the session by messing around with rubberman variants.

Highlights:

*muted pixie clipper-pdx egg repeat to start a string. Just happy that I got it first try, and it felt styly.
*jani-blur
*footed blurry drifter-vortex twice.
*blubberman! :) My first ever, but it could have been tighter. I'll try and hit it better next time.
*footed ripwalk-matador bsos, first try.
*blur-legbeater-blur-atom smasher bsos.
*atom smasher x6, new record.

And the highlight I was most stoked about:

*legbeater-blur-atom-atom-atom-legbeater-blur-atom-legbeater to a string. 8)

sick rubberman stuff. rubberman x2 is harder than it should be, I hope I hit it one day.

Thanks for that post up top... it's nice to be reminded how lucky we are. I'm very grateful for modified also... I just try to ignore all the crap. Now that I'm working I'm not on here as much, which is good, I make sure I read the good stuff and don't worry so much about the rest :)

The cool thing about rubberman x2, is it really shows you are comfortable starting rubberman from any one of the 6 contacts. For a while there, I could rubberman pretty consistently starting on flip blur, but nowhere else, but now I feel that I can get a complete rubberman starting on any of the 6 contacts.

Had a 2 man session with Luis today. Right before the session I ate a real good roast duck noodle soup, which had real fatty roast duck. Bit of a mistake, as I felt it all session long. :? The big exciting news though, is that we borrowed a camera from school, and filmed the whole session! Despite the heavy duck nausea, I still managed to get a lot of highlights on film.

Luis and I are gonna work on getting a vid made up. Hope to get something ready in the next few days.

EDIT: Wow, spent the last 3 hours cutting up the footage, editing it, and putting music on it. Not as hard as you'd think, but definitely a time commitment. Trying to send the vid to Mike Hansen to host it, but for some reason its taking forever to send. Maybe I needed to compress it more, cause the file is 50 k currently. Oh well, the growing pains of making our first video. Due to some bad capturing by me, I left out two clips: vertigo, and diving pdx torque. Hopefully you can see the rest of the highlights in the next couple days.

Ooh! Ooh ooh!

Can't contain my excitement. Yesterday schoolwork was sacrificed for footbag and video making, and I'm very very excited that we were able to produce results so quickly. So without further ado, here's the fruits of our labor: a very rare Ken Somolinos footbag special.

hey ken, just wanted to say i tried to watch your vid but it was really choppy on my computer, so my only comment was gonna be that you shouldn't hold your delays for so long  from reading what you hit in it though i must say it sounds like you're doing well!

Grad school is pretty challenging. Rough econ test just now, but on the bright side, that just means I'm that much closer to the weekend and Cornell Jam. It should be good times, and I definitely could use some cheering up. Nothing like a tourney to do that!

Wow. Homework is done and turned in, preparations have been made, tickets have been sold. I can't believe the Cornell Footbag Jam is officially kicking off in a couple hours.

People will arrive soon, shred will happen tonight, and tomorrow will be nuts. Really nervous and excited at the same time.

You know I'll blog a ton when its done. And most likely you will also get a video too.

Much much love to all of our sponsors, and to everybody coming.
