monday, night ken and pascal got together for a session at 845pm at bartels in the ramin room, where the jugglefest/footbag tournament is going to be but i did'nt get there until just past 10pm because i was at the library working on some syntax problemset,
i only got to shred for about an hour, a quick warm up and then joined the circle, my highlight for the night was i hit my first infinity at the very end of the session, after that i headed back to the library to finish up that problem set
the past couple days i've been watching new footbag vids that have been posted and re-watching lots of old ones that i've seen, just while i'm eating or taking a break ill put some on, i have a different view on them since i watched most of them when i first started during the summer and could'nt do anything and now i can do some stuff, so, its also cool to see people that i've met in the videos and be like oh, i've met him
and on monday, i submitted some application for a campus job, then today, some guy called me at like 9am and was like come for an interview at noon i went and got a job, ill probably start this week sometime, ill have to be sure to schedule my work around footbag
Bear Feet: Cornell Footbag Club
Hey, congrats on the job Luis, that's pretty cool. The only highlight of mine I can remember from yesterday's session was ducking legover>ducking legover. I hit it after a couple of tries, and right after Ken said "I probably won't see that today, but real soon." Oh, I think I also had a pretty good run with lots of butterfly, osis pdx mirage. Ken said it was probably the best run he's ever seen me hit.
The other thing I learned yesterday is when I'm listening to Ken's advice about switching feet faster, not only do I have to put the setting foot down quickly, but I often have to bend my knees and really push off of it to get the right attack for tricks like eggbeater and dlo. Hopefully I remember this in the future.
On another note, in the dressing room today before hockey class, a couple of guys were like, "we saw you playing hacky sack in the Ramin room during the hockey line, you guys were crazy", and then another guy was like "I saw you playing hacky sack there yesterday!" Anyways, they seemed pretty impressed, which was cool, and one guy was asking me a lot of questions about what kinds of bags we use and stuff. I get the feeling he played alot of hacky sack in high school, so I'm going to try to recruit him. After that I played hockey for the first time with my contacts and WOW, what a difference it makes! I also had lots of energy and my legs felt really good, possibly from all the footbag I've been playing. Definitely my best hockey of the season (so far).

so we had our regular wednesday night shred, i thought it was alright session, we started out with couple games of foursquare than shred, 6 people showed, there was like some volleyball thing going on in the gym, but we just played where they werent,

Club meeting last night was pretty good. Luis, Pascal, Brett, Nick, Bill and myself showed up. It feels like prelims started a couple weeks ago, and they never finish. I can't really blame people for not showing up when they have a lot of work, but I long ago came to the realization that you physically cannot study for more than 4 hours, so may as well pencil in a footbag break.
I didn't get to shred much, as I spent most of my time giving pointers on tricks and modding Nick's lavers. I finally cut out the insteps, so I hope that will help his clippers improve. 4square in the beginning was fun. The first game we played on a court with much bigger squares, which added a lot of strategy. I spent the whole first game listening to "try to catch me riding dirty" on Brett's iPod, so I was pretty antisocial. The second game we played on a normal court, but used a bag with pellets instead of sand. That made it a touch painful when you got nailed with the bag, which was also fun.
I was pretty happy with two things: Nick has improved a ton, and now rivals Brett's skill, and Bill is leaning towards buying shred shoes. That'd be sweet.
After shred, Pascal Brett and I went to get wings, and much laughter ensued. Good times. Cornell Footbag Jam is fast approaching, and I'm a bit nervous about all the organization, considering how much work I have for my classes as well. I must pester some sponsors more, but no matter what, I have high hopes for that weekend. Fun will be had.

friday, it was cold and rainy, so we met at helen newman gym but couldnt really find a spot so we went to appel third floor and played there, there were tables set up and stuff that we moved but we ended up playing foursquare on this stage they had there and the footbags kept falling behind it so we all ended up having to crawl under the stage to get the bags, kind of a hassle/funny,
i think friday i hit my first osis which was cool at appel, afterwards i went home and kicked a little more and got a couple more osi,
while we were up in this room playing 2 people came by and asked us if we were there for some talent show, and we did'nt know what they were talking about but asked some questions, if we could be in it and what not but they were'nt too informative

Friday was just plain miserable weather-wise. I also had a ton of work, so I came reeeeeal close to just completely bailing on the session. We had decided in advance that we'd try playing in a new location, but when we got there, we found it lacking. Definitely not a good start on the session. We ended up playing in some empty room in some random building, which turned out to be a stroke of extraordinary good luck. But more on that later.
The first 20 minutes of the session was just Pascal, Luis and me, but Brett joined us after that. I was a bit disappointed more people didn't show, but the combination of new location plus horrific weather made me more understanding. Right off the bat I didn't really feel like shredding hard, but playing footbag still was relaxing and helped clear my head of a bit of stress. I even managed to break a personal record for a move: drifter x25! Cool.
Most of the session was pretty laid back, with the exception of foursquare, where Brett nailed me really hard in the eye.
We played foursquare on an elevated stage that was flush against a wall, but had enough space between the two that a bag could (and did) slip in there. Lots of viet-cong style crawling under the maze of support struts below the stage to save many a bag.
A couple times during the session, a random student would wander in and inquire about "the talent show." We had no idea what they were talking about, and probably wouldn't have learned more had one of these random students not been kinda cute. We used the talent show as an excuse to keep her in the room talking to us, and even though it began as a conversational gambit, the more we learned about the show, the more intrigued we became. To hear her tell it, there were pretty good prizes for the top 3 spots, and there were only 6 acts total. On top of this, all of the acts were musical. I definitely liked the sound of all of this.
Intrigued at this talent show possibility, we did what we could to find info on it. It definitely looked like a very badly publicized event, and very badly organized too (as evidenced by all the people who showed up a day early by mistake). After much research, we concluded that the show was Saturday night, but we still had no idea how/if I could enter it. I kinda filed it away in the back of my head as a possibility, but I didn't think I'd have time to do it.
We spent the rest of the session shredding while I recited Mitch Hedberg jokes for a good 20 minutes.

Well, after just a few weeks my posting frequency is already dropping off. I missed a couple of sessions, but they weren't too spectacular on my part. I hit alot of new stuff here and there, but alot of it is just things I haven't tried yet, and not really new concepts.
Yesterday I had a session with Ken that turned out pretty well. While he was seeing how many unique fearless he could hit, I was practicing my guitless. Ken challenged me to hit 6 uniques, which was hard, but I eventually pulled it off with
ducking clipper > diving clipper > pdx mirage > butterfly > pdx mirage >butterfly.
Not very exciting, but it's a start. While I was trying I started alot of strings with moves like ducking mirage, toe set DLO, eggbeater, reverse eggbeater, whirl and DATW, but always ended up dropping during the mirage drill. So basically I am going to keep playing hard, and start really drilling butterfly, pdx mirage, pdx illusion and ducking and diving so I can hit some more interesting guiltless strings, without having to worry about messing up the easy parts. Oh yeah, I and I need to put alot of work into osis.
Only problem with my plan is that under my current schedule, I play hockey at least 4 times a week (2 days, 2 nights), which is starting to limit my possible footbag times. I can't make any more of the club meetings on Wednesdays, so hopefully I can find some company to play with on Thursday nights, and we can get more attendence on Monday nights.

Pascal's strings are consistently longer, Luis' clipper game has taken off (toe butterfly to ss butterfly tonight), Nick couldn't do anything other than toe stalls last month, and I'm finally (mostly) over my injury.
We filmed some more with Luis' camera, so hopefully we can put out a video this week to drum up more excitement for the Cornell Footbag Jam. The player's party is at a frat party, which should be a lot of fun. I've never been to a frat party, but I like the fact that we are gonna have a players party where there are actually girls, instead of people just talking footbag and watching shred videos. Luis, Pascal and I went out for Chinese food afterwards.

Felt sick with a stomachache all day yesterday, but still went to footbag club. Pascal, Nick, Bill and me for the first couple hours, then Andy and Brett showed up at the end to come get dinner. Our club tells funny stories and has a good vibe.
We played with big floppy bags for a change yesterday, which I enjoyed cause it made me play slower and more flowy. Had a 10+ dexless string of spinning/gyro/diving/ducking clippers, but for the most part I just messed around. Had a lot of fun doing drifter-style clippers, and pdx drifter-style same side clippers. Nick is just incredible. You give him the tiniest tip on any trick, and then*bam* it becomes a reliable part of his shred vocabulary. The only negative so far is that he's really one-sided, but considering that he's had Lavers and been playing for what, a month? I'm ok with that. He's doing things like toe set butterfly-clip set mirage-atw now. Very cool.

Lately our club has had a run of bad luck, but I think we'll make it through it all. Luis got hammered with midterms this week, so we haven't played in a while. Pascal is going to a 5 day conference in Pittsburgh, so he won't be back until right before the Cornell Jam. And Brett apparently came down with something really bad, possibly mono, so he's out for at least a week. 
At least we'll have a big influx of footbaggers next weekend, that should help.

This weekend was pretty busy, i didnt get much school stuff done, but i did lots of other things though,
Friday-I started my Job which is like being a waiter at hotel banquets, it was kind of fun, but i guess the first day always is, im sure it will get old quick
Saturday-I was planning on waking up early and doing school work but i ended up wasting the morning/afternoon then went to play footbag with ken, i hadnt played since last saturday and we both had real good sessions, i dont remember any highlights, but my legs were real tired cause on Thurs i had some pledge deal where i did a bunch of excercise, which i dont do very often and so my legs have been sore since then
after footbag ken and i went to eat wings, oh.. i remember i was supposed to go to some volunteer training thing at 3pm but skipped it to get wings with ken, then we went grocery shopping, i went hope then went out to dinner with a friend of my family who lives here in ithaca who i hadnt seen all semester which pretty much took up my whole night ended up going home and just hung out
Sunday i woke up and had to like help clean the house which wasnt really fun, then borrowed a car to go to the mall to buy tapes for the video camera so ken and i could test it out later in the day, went home then met up with ken played a little more than an hour of footbag, after the session we went over the footage, edited it with music, and uploaded it to somewhere, ken will post where later, i dont know, but that took us like 3 hours, i was only planning on spending a little time on that so i could do school work, but at least we got it done, then ate dinner
i just wanted to mention that pascal was out of town all weekend, and for the next couple days too, thats why he's not in this post at all
and im back at the library trying to do some work,

the tournament went well this weekend, lots of people showed up and had a good time, it was pretty fun, i did'nt get to play to much footbag cause i was kind of busy running around doing errands and organizing stuff,
so i played a little throughout the weekend but not much really and the last time the club met was on thursday but we didnt really play to seriously,
last night after the tournament, i went to the library to try and get some school work done but couldnt' stay awake, i kept falling asleep as i was reading so i bought a cup of coffe, but it didnt really help, so i went home and i guess the coffe hit me, cause i had enough energy to have a long session with josh lewis, cause he didnt leave till this morning, monday,
it was cool that i got a chance to play even after the tournament was over, i had a good session i hit a bunch of stuff,

My first post in a while, so I'll try to make it worth it.
First off, I want to thank everyone who came to Cornell for making this event happen. I had a wonderful time this weekend and it was great seeing all of you again (and meeting some people for the first time).
Personally, I was very happy to place third in the intermediate circle comp, and second in the four square tournament. On that note, I was blown away by how well Marc plays four square; I played a lot of four square at worlds this year and at other tounaments, and I have never seen anyone so impossible to get out.
Also, I had a great time watching all the other events we ran. It was great to see all that footbag talent present at Cornell. I can't wait until Ken and Luis put out our video footage of the event!

I just came back from a session we had today, with me, Ken, Luis and Nick. We didn't really play too hard, but since the tournament, Nick has learned toe set and clipper set DLO on his strong side. Pretty impressive. That inspired me to try to hit back to back DLO's, which I've never tried. After a couple of attempts I hit toe DLO x3 on my strong side. Later I also managed to hit eggbeater>DLO on two occasions. I was happy because I didn't know those links were possible for me yet. I felt bad that I was ignoring my flipside, but on my first try I hit toe DLO BSOS so I guess it's not that bad.
Ken and Luis had a few highlights, but I'll let them post those. After the session we played four square to cool off. I think I won all three games, but some of them were really, really close. Plus, it was lots of fun!

Pretty impressive. That inspired me to try to hit back to back DLO's, which I've never tried. After a couple of attempts I hit toe DLO x3 on my strong side. Later I also managed to hit eggbeater>DLO on two occasions. I was happy because I didn't know those links were possible for me yet. I felt bad that I was ignoring my flipside, but on my first try I hit toe DLO BSOS so I guess it's not that bad.
Ken and Luis had a few highlights, but I'll let them post those. After the session we played four square to cool off. I think I won all three games, but some of them were really, really close. Plus, it was lots of fun!
