Blatent Hypocritical Policy from the Modified Admin/Mod Staf

Post by shredzilla »

This will be my last post here, because I no longer enjoy this forum for communicating in a public way to other footbaggers. The only reason I'm even posting is just to give light to why I will no longer post here.

I feel that the policies of Modified do NOT reflect a professional sport, that which I deem footbag to be. My 'vigilatnte rage' of displaying a comic, was to prove a point. I complained about a signature being what I thought, extremely too vulgar for an all-ages sport information forum.

In return, I got a very caloused PM from the Admin stating that she brought it up with the rest of the Modified staff, and that it was unanimously voted on that this signature was not in violation of the 'NEW' Soon-to-be-posted rules.

My first reaction was "Well, if the NEW rules aren't even posted yet for all to read, why can't you just tell this person to take it down until they are."

My second reaction was "What kind of incompetant staff would think that vulgarity in signature would be a GOOD thing for footbag?"

I knew at this point all was lost. There wouldn't be any convincing of the staff to alter the rules, and to be honest 'bringing the issue to the community' wasn't an option for me either, because I realize that as a young community, a lot or most wouldn't have a problem with it. After all, what kid wants to be told what to do!

So, I figured I'd make a comic of my own. It would accomplish two things. It would show the modified staff how hypocritical they were being by showing them that THEY took offense to my comic, so it had to be taken down.

Oh, but it's not okay if it's a personal attack. So wait, let me get this straight. It's OKAY to offend someone on Modified if it is impersonal, but not if it's personal.

The second thing it would do is generate discussion, and give a ready example of the Modified staff's blatent hypocracy, which it did. And let me just re-iterrate their policy:

It's okay to offend someone, but not if you do it in ways that offend US.

Just think about that statement. It's a paraphrase of what the actual rule is, but all the same that is EXACTLY what they are saying.

It's okay to have the words in boldface type 'EAT A DICK!' in your sig, but it's not okay to say You're so gay! or You're so retarded! Haha, but not because it's offensive, but because it offends THEM!

They've catered the rules to what they believe is right. I choose to side with a philosophy that vulgarity and profanity does not belong in signatures, as well as avatars, because those signatures are instantly broadcasted all across the forum in every thread.

When a new, potential footbagger comes in to this forum, I'd rather them not see that stuff in sigs and avatars. To me it gives the impression that the community is not respectful of people in public places. I'm sure many of you feel that it's no big deal, but I do. I feel that footbag is a sport worth trying a little harder to respect people as a WHOLE, and not just trying to respect the freedoms of people to do whatever they want, so long as it doesn't offend the people who instated the rules to begin with.

Thank you for reading my post, and I apologize to those I offended while I was posting on modified. Hey, I'm not perfect either. I've made some posting blunders while on here as well, but in the end, I'd like to think that the policy should lean towards making Modified a sports forum that's respectful to all readers, not just the staff.

I'll continue to check out the vids section, and use Modified as a resource, but you won't see another post from me in here. (Although it pains me to do so sometimes, I wanted to shout for joy in Erik's vid thread when I saw him kicking again!)

Good luck, and enjoy footbag.

Sincerely,

J. Chris Miller

Chris. You talk about how Modified is a young community and doesn't want to be told what to do, but you are the one that needs to grow up. I see your point in the situation. I even agree that that sig was bad and shouldn't be aloud. But you handled the situation horribly! You decided that since that comic is bad, you'll turn it into a personal attack and spam the forums with it. Real mature man. And yes, making it a PERSONAL attack is a horrible thing to do. It make it way worse. The original comis made me chuckle the first time I read it. It had some humor. You just wanted to destroy the forum.

Your actions now are just as childish. "I'm not gonna post on here anymore. I'm just gonna watch all the videos and get all the information and not contribute anything. I won't even tell someone I'll happy for them or give them props just because I don't get everything I want!"

You're being a baby Chris. GROW UP!

chastizing chris is not part of the discussion, the discussion was about what we think about the "mods hipocracy" not attacking him and calling him childish....no offense just pointing that out, chris is my friend so i dont want people personally attacking him because he did what he felt, was the correct thing to do, even though i personally would have went at it in a different manner

much love to chris, we (or i) will miss you on modified

and much love to everyone else as well :P

Ya, I didn't mean to get off topic. But before this whole ordeal I had alot of respect for Chris and he was on of my favorite posters on the forum. He lost almost all my respect from this though. And I feel that pointed out his own hypocrisy does do something for the discussion as he is pointing out the hypocrisy of the mods (which I don't see, by the way).

Anyways, I will miss his posts. Just not the ones he made while acting like a five year old. Only his informative and fun posts. Sorry if I sounded like a dick. Didn't mean to be.

wow dude, you suck. sure he offended some people with the whole signature insident, but what are you doing to help the situation? how is spreading stupid rumors a productive way of solving a real problem? all you did with that post and the thread you started was make yourself the one who is immature.

liars get no respect in my book.

hypocracy seems to be the topic. you did well at being hyporcritical, switch kicker. go you.

chris that sucks youre leaving. i wish you would stay... youre a good part of the community.

Personally, WTF does being gay or straight have to do with footbag or modified?

I have never seen 2 footbaggers making out or sleeping with one another in public, so why make it an issue in everyday conversation?

Is being gay somehow better? Or vise versa?

Quiz:
A.) Politics is crap
B.) Mods are a joke
C.) Footbag is fun
D.) All of the above

What does his sexuality have to do with anything?

Chris's actions did not facilitate discussion, the guidelines did. He has and had the opportunity to discuss the issue there with the community. He chose and chooses not to because he feels the community is not mature enough to make its own decisions and that he should be its moral compass. Well, sorry Chris but this is a community, and no individual has a right to hijack it.

The post he made to start this thread is exactly the type of thing that would have been a far better solution than his comic.
I realize that as a young community, a lot or most wouldn't have a problem with it.
Given this fact, what right does any individual, whether a user, a mod, or an admin, what right would they have to dictate to the majority what can and can't be said. Chris says it's a matter of what is best for footbag. Modified is a community first. It may or may not be what is best for footbag, but it will always be a community. If your view is different from the majorities, you have a number of options - try and change people's minds from within that community, or break off from it and oppose it from outside. I don't necessarily agree with what the majority of modified thinks about any number of things but that doesn't give me the right to personaly attack those who disagree or demand that they submit to my viewpoint just because I feel I am more mature, or that my way will be better for footbag's standing as a professional sport. I will discuss these issues with other members of the community in a mature manner for as long as possible, and I ask that other's take the same approach.

Tut tut... typical responses...

"Actually sir, your preference of sexual attractivness to another homosapien has no revelance to the matter at hand, being that he is leaving the forum for good." or "Wtf does being gay have to do with anything?" or "What does being gay or straight have to do with footbag?"

I have an answer to all that.

I never suggested it did, maybe you should stop trying to connect everything on a footbag forum directly to footbag.

Not to mention, all 4 of you DTFs completely missed the point, of which I don't feel like explaining to you right now, because it's much more fun to see what kind of bullshit you kids can come up with to try and make sense of my post... It's hilarious. Not everything is in black and white. There is a color in between those two, it's called humanity. And you need an open mind to see and understand that color.

Thank god someone deleted the "Chris miller loves ( ) )------D" thread.

This one is almost as rediculous, but at least has a valid point in some respects.

Hey switch, or should I say, bitch kicker (I sort of like that nickname, word up pete.)

ohhhh you're so clever. I bet you went and sucked yourself off after posting that cause we're so typical and all that. You're so cool. Can you be my friend cause you're so much more intelligent than us? "I don't feel like explaining it" maybe that's because you have no point, or at least no valid point because you're an absolute moron. If I'm wrong, do enlighten me, but somehow I doubt it.

Chris Miller's sexuality is none of yours, mine, or anyone else here's business. Have some simple respect. Nobody gives a shit if he's gay or not.

Do you try to be like this, or does it come naturally?

I hope Chris comes back and you leave.

Re: the actual topic (you remember that right?) I choose D for sure.... I'm pretty indifferent on a lot of stuff in life and I guess this is the same.

I think over moderation is a bad thing, and something like "eat a dick" in a signature in no way warrents moderation in my opinion, as has been said this is a community and people don't like to be over censored like that.

Respect and understand your opinion Chris, just not the way you went about it this time :( Would appreciate more of those great posts you mostly do. Peace.

p.s. did he really make a thread like that? what is wrong with you bitch kicker??!?! did someone drop you on your head? Really, I would love to hear your almighty point and reasoning for acting like this.

Again, another typical ignorant response.

I don't need to explain myself to you. I had my point and reasoning for it, and I suceeded and proved my point to the person it was about (Not Chris Miller.), so there is no need to talk about it any further.

Just like Chris Miller's sexuality, what I say on this forum, is none of your god damn business, unless it is directed towards you.

Chris Miller, just happens to be someone, that I don't like, and isn't here to defend himself (Can't wait to here the typical response to that one...), which is a perfect condition for me to prove my point to the person I was indirectly proving it to. So just shut your mouth, and stick to your own business. Kay?

Umm this is a public forum so it kinda makes it everyone's business, if you had a problem with Chris Miller perhaps you could have tried to sort it out via PM's.

OK, so you've proved you're a coward. typical response? who gives a shit, it's typical cause it's true you pussy. I don't like you either but I don't go around posting threads about how you suck dicks. Talk about low blows, learn to fight with some decency.

I don't care if I'm ignorant of your feeble point, whatever it is, you're a dick and that's all I need.

Oh, and you're wrong. Everything you post on here is my business, it's everyone's business, it's a freaking forum for crying out loud. Why do people think the rules on here are the same as real life? I just don't get it... if you're being a dick, I don't care who it's to, I'll let you know.

Phuck you.

p.s. I'd have to agree with your signature, you're online personality makes me cringe.

I was thinking the same thing, lol.

You're really bad with words, you know that Jamie?

And to the previous poster, it isn't Jamie's business until he butts into the conversation, blindly, without knowing what's going, but pretending to know what's going on. And I've already told you... Chris Miller has nothing to do with the topic, so get off my dick please and go be annoying elsewhere.

And Jamie, I don't care if you don't like me. Like you said, it's a god damn forum. Maybe you should get that through your head before you go around taking everything so seriously.

IMO, this is what the internet's for. Pointless, ignorant conversations.
