Carlos B. Footblog
I'm not really much for blogging but I figured this would be the best way to communicate and learn about different tricks and chart my progression as a footbag player.
Let me start off by introducting myself, Carlos Bermudez and I currently live in Indianapolis, IN. I have a wife and two children, Jocelyn(wife), Cadence(first daughter 2 years old) and Willow(Second daughter 4 months old). I'll be 24 years old on November 17th and I'm currently going to school for my BS in Computer Science and I work for the Defense Finance and Accounting Services for the Department of Defense.
Now lets get back to footbag. I've been playing for about 2 years now but I'm only going to say that 6 months of that time has been seriously playing.
Also, I don't mind people posting in this b/c I want the advise from the community.
These the tricks i currently know(mind you I don't have these down yet but I'm trying)
SS Toe (50)
FlipSide Toe (50) 50 back and forth
SS Inside (10)
Flipside Inside (10) 10 back and forth
SS Outside (10)
Flipside Outside (8) 4 back and forth
SS Clipper (10)
Flipside Clipper (6) 10 back and forth
SS Butterfly (2)
Flipside Butterfly (2) 2 back and forth
SS Whirl (2)
SS Osis (1)
Flipside Osis (1)
SS Legover (2)
Flipside Legover (2)
SS Mirage (8)
Flipside Mirage (4)
SS Illusion (2)
Flipside Illusion (1)
Ok, first question would be whats the number of times I should hit these before I start to feel comfortable with the move, or when I stop drilling the move and go on to the next?
I'm having problems with my Osis for some reason when I'm try to catch the bag behind me I'm spotting the bag on my other side but it's going to far foward for me to try and hit that second flipside or SS Osis. Any suggestions would help.

Thanks Moshermosher wrote:You don't get to stop doing the easy tricks EVER!
It's always good to keep practicing even the easiest tricks because you will continue to get better at them and lay down an even stronger foundation.
Have fun!

Last night was a great time. I hung out with my guys from Indy that were into moderately new to the footbag sport but were very excited about wanting to start becoming serious about the sport. Also a guy from Michagan came to the session and he had a great concept of fundermentals Legovers and pickups where on point and he even hit a couple of blenders.
I on the other hand am still learning the sport but ofcourse they know about Footbag.org but I refered them to this site b/c it's the even more helpful.
Ok, last night I was hitting some pretty good concept moves and such did the usual worked on clipper stalls, but I started getting my ducking and driving moves down pretty well now so I'm feeling more confediate about hitting those on my SS. I'm stilling working my flipside though and I almost hit Barfly and reverse whirl so, I'm feeling pretty good about myself today
I'm going to get a ditial camcorder at the begining of next year so that's when I think that I'll start really progressing, also b/c the month before I would have been at XJAM!!!!!!! I'm so excited about Xjam can't wait to meet all the peps I always talk to!

I didn't play last night b/c I'm going to shred tonight and I figured I needed a break from the shred session two days ago, but I've been eating a lot better since I became a vegitarian(been about 2 months now) so my diet has been nice.(it's not all carrots and lettace). I'm starting to lose weight and also been working out at lunch time at work, I'll do cardeo three days a week(M/W/F) and light weight lifting 2 days a week(t/t). also I've schuduled my shredding to break downs so on Mondays I'll do drilling, tuesdays I'll do endurance, and Wesnesdays I'll do learning new moves. I'll mix it up each week so I don't get bored of the schudule. I've seen a noticable difference in my playing since I've been working out a long with shredding. I'm not out of breath so easily and my leg move faster.

Yo man, cool blog. Props to you on raising and a family and being only 24. I just turned 25 and I'm definitely not responsible enough to do that
And you manage to play plenty of footbag too, that can't be easy.
How are you liking Indianapolis so far? It's probably a really good place to raise a family because taxes are low, it's clean, there's almost no crime... the only thing is it's gotta be boring sometimes
I lived there for a year, what a snoozefest. Glad you are finding people to shred with!
Props to you on going vegetarian. I've been one for almost 2 years now. It's awesome. I'm never going back
Oh btw, a few drills for you to help improve the consistency of your basics and improve you string length:
Mirage > Legover > rpt 8 contacts
ss Clipper > Near Mirage > rpt 8 contacts
Illusion > Mirage > Legover > rpt
Butterfly > Near Mirage > Legover > rpt
Enter the Novice Sick 1 / Sick 3 online comps at the end of this month!!
Keep shreddin

hey all sorry about that didn't get a chance to up date my blog. Ben thanks for all the props man! I'm still mad I didn't get a chance to make it to the San Marcos Shred!!!! I'm going to try what you said for drills. I was up in Chicago this weekend for the IFPA workshop, that was awesome, I got to shred with Scott Davidson which was cool as hell. I kind of like Indy, more stuff to do then in Oklahoma(no offense Okys) and Chicago is only about 3 hours away. Scott also gave me a little tip to make sure I'm working on my Infinities and osis'.
Ben we are going to have to get together next time I hit up D-town to see my friend Gabe(I'll take the extra time to shred with ya).
I'm shredding tonight so I'll give you guys the break down tomarrow morning.

Last nights session was great, Ben thanks for all the great advice man I'm hitting infinities, legovers, pickups, ss clip, flipside clip all pretty well now, also was hitting DLO, Sweet! At the end of the session I was working on infinities a little bit more and I accidently put my ss leg down faster than normal and did a decent stepping set! then I realized that if I could do that then I should be able to hit rip walk! I spent the next 20 minutes trying to the hit just one rip walk(ss to flipside), but the closest I could hit it was that the bag landed on my flipside clip but bounced off!!!! Jorden Moir was right you should try a new move at the end of a session b/c that made me feel great! I need to get better quickly for the NYJ in December LOL

Wow, looks like your dexless game is pretty good dude! Probably better than mine. Try spinning butterfly, it seems easier than spinning clipper because you can hop to the bag at the last second to snag it in a butterfly where as with clipper you're kind of rooted once you spot the bag. Inspinning? Awesome, work that shit.
Well props to you. Superstylie drill would be spinning clip > ducking clip > rpt.
Oh btw I stole the date/session length header thing from the Australia and New Zealand guys, so it's cool. Rock on.

Last night wasn't very interesting just hit a couple of strings together and started off with 10 mirages to warm up, not bad also getting better at osis and infinities so thats a plus. Other than that didn't hit anything new just get a good grip on the moves I know now.

Last nights session was great! I had taken a couple of day off to rest my legs a bit more b/c I was losing the mojo. This session I concentrated on refining my moves to hit them easier than before. I was making sure that my posture felt right and I wasn't moving to fast. I think I'm going to try to do this more often b/c I was shredding with longer strings and less engery being spent trying to move for the bag faster
Anyway nothing big to put up with the session but it felt good to be playing again. Man! I'm such a footbag fiend! I can't even go two days before I start to miss playing LOL!

Had a nice session last night. Hitting rake more consist now so I'm feeling pretty comfortable with the move strong side, but I was mostly practicing flipside this session. Felt nice, getting the movements more fluidly now and feeling more comfortable with my flipside. Man, I was thinking back at when I started playing and I've come along way since then. 3 more weeks until epic footbag session! Found out today to that I don't have to work on Saturday the 30th so that gives me one more day to shred with all those awesome peps! Can't Wait!
