I think we should discuss the possibility of a NYJ at our session in a few days.

The main problem with having this is that Chicago will be having their event on Dec 28-30. It looks like there are ALOT of people and some big names from all over the continent (check the thread out!). I would personally LOVE to go. I was at their event in 2002 and it was awesome. But to make the trip would mean having to throw down at LEAST a couple hundred bucks, which I doubt I can do this time.
There are a couple questions this poses that, in my mind, will decide if we should have an event:

Will their event take away from attendance here? or vice versa?
Will a Rochester event enable people to go to a new year's jam who wouldn't otherwise go to one?

Chris,

You raised some very good questions. Here are my thoughts...

Will there be a lot of big names in Chicago? Most likely yes.

Will the Chicago Jam take people away from the Rochester Jam or vice versa? Yes and yes.

Will a Rochester Jam (blah blah blah)? Most definitely. This is the question that requires the most work and commitment from the event planners. We could very well draw in a ton of people, even people that know absolutely nothing about footbaq, if we promote the heck out of this event.

I was not involved in planning last year's event so I do not know what kind of work is involved. I do know that the success of this event depends completely on the number of people that go and the quality of footbag presentations. If we have this event, and the crowd is big, and the footbag is well represented, we could make a huge impact on Rochester and really boost awareness of our beloved sport.

I guess the real question we need to answer is, do we have the people and the commitment to make this event one of the biggest events Rochester has ever seen? I am willing to try but I will need to be directed. I really do not know where to start.

Of course I will help out any way I can, but being in Geneseo, it would be hard to make connections with people in Rochester. I can always make phone calls and stuff to say, Red Bull, for example.

Other than that, the only thing I can offer is my town here. It is a self-contained town with everything needed within a mile or two. There's a Comfort Inn next to the grocery store, and my house is condusive to partying (except there is NOWHERE to play footbag at night). It has a pong table downstairs and a jam room with drums and amps, so we can have live music all night. The possibility of having it here is completely dependent on whether or not SUNY Geneseo's facilities are available during the winter break. That would be the only place to shred.

However, I think Rochester has more to offer. But it might be a little more spread out, and I dont know if any of you would want to host the party.

Basically, Mike, we need to start by securing the essentials:

*Event site: I don't know if The Mushy Bongo is an option this year. They didn't exactly make a killing, plus the lighting sucked. We should still look into that. We just need a dependable place to shred.
*Lodging: cheap hotel or floor space at someone's home.
*Restaurants/Food source

Everything needs to be nearby and easy to navigate.

And our event site depends on what type of event we want to have. It could just be a jam, or a full blown tournament, or we could get really ambitious and set up some kind of performance, maybe selling ticktes. It's all really wide open and we could do whatever we want at this point.

I'd really like to explore what kind of attendance we should expect (number of players, any big names)

thats all good, but if you really want a lot of people to come you should start advertising it on the modified tournament thread......like....now. so people can start making plans and arangements, plus some people who dont visit modified so often need to see it, if you post it a week before, thats just not enough time for people to plan and for all of modified to see it. also, correct me if im wrong, but, its inside, correct? are there any super (de-duper) public indoor places over there? i wish we could just shred in a mall

attendance, i say max.....45, and thats over estimating. this is what, the second year? hard to get a lot of attention but i mean if you can get red bull and any other 'sponsor' involved i think it could be a huge success! im excited! (plus it will be the first comp that i go to by my self

Print out some basic flyers or what not and do some public shred between now and the jam. That would attract SOME random people. Just hand them out to the people who come up to you and ask you what you're doing or tell you that you look like you're dancing from a distance. Shake your head solemnly at them and just slap that flyer into their paw.

I really wish I could help you guys out planning for this. Buuut. I don't go to Nazareth anymore and I'm, ya know. . in Ireland right now. But I'm stoked to come and nothing will get in my way this time. Except maybe if I get a nintendo wii for christmas.

. . nah I'd probably just bring the wii to the jam. Good luck, gents!

I think what we're aiming for is a pretty straightforward get-together. Putting something together that would involve the public might be too much work. Correct me if I'm wrong guys, we could do that if you wanted but I am having a hard time coming up with a scenario where that would work.

Right now our main concern is finding a good, reliable shred spot for the weekend.
And I assume that we are going to have this on New Years' Eve? That's a sunday night, so hosting this from Saturday to Monday seems like the best option.

New RFA video coming soon. Video will feature Aric McIntosh, Paul Agostinelli, and Mike Anello. I have gone through all four hours of footage all pulled all the clips I intend to use in the final video. All that is left - as if this is some easy task - is to put the clips together with title screens, transitions, music, the works and make the final product. I hope to have this done by the end of the week. Keep your fingers crossed.

New RFA video coming tonight!!! If all goes well, meaning my computer does not burst into flames between now and tomorrow, I should have the next RFA video done tonight. I finished the intro title section, Aric's section, and my section. All that is left is Paul's section and then rendering and uploading the final product. I am very satisfied with the editting up to this point. It's no Lovely film, but it is certainly a step above what I have done in the past. I can't wait to finish this.

unfortunately i probably won't be playing footbag for another 2 weeks or so... i killed my ankle, hardcore.. i rolled it messing around at a party this past weekend. trying pixie dod i stopped down on my ankle and made it pop 5 or 6 times. didn't hurt bad at first, but then it poped again 5 minutes later when i side stepped. Swelled up nicely and then began bruising. kept swelling over the night and then became black and blue all over my ankle lower leg, and then my toes.. it still hurts like hell now, but i have a lot more motion then i did, and the swelling/bruising is better.

I would like to thank Paul Agostinelli and Aric McIntosh for being so incredibly good and having such dedication to the sport of footbag that it inspires me to make videos. It was a pleasure to work on this video, even with my computer memory issues. Thanks also to those Pittsford guys for coming out and sharing the shred experience with the RFA. Aric,

Keep your ankle wrapped for about a week - removing the bandage at night to allow for circulation. The wrapping will decrease swelling, minimize movement, and keep you reminded that you have an injury. I recommend the self adheasive wraps you can find at your local grocery store - since you are away I don't know what that might be, probably not Wegmans. Apply ice only - heat will increase circulation and therefore increase swelling. Only apply ice for no more than 15 minutes per hour - any longer and your body will respond as though it were suffering from frost-bite, thereby rushing blood to the area and increasing swelling.

The last time I busted my ankle in the same manner you did, I was out for a month. It has taken at least six months to fully recover, where I can footbag and not have a burning pain develop in my ankle. Good luck and take it easy.

All right!

I have the Holcomb gym on my campus reserved for footbag playing on Dec 30, Dec 31, and Jan 1. You know what that means.

We have a shred spot, we have a party house, we have cheap lodging.
We have a NYJ!

So we had a small Sunday session yesterday. Just Mike and I. That's after a 10-man session the week before. But it was still good. I didn't have 'it', and we only played for about 2 hours before I lost it entirely. But it was still a solid practice day (useful for flushing out the toxins) and I managed to hit a few new things. Namely Blurry Torque bsos, Twirl bsos, and Blurry Whirl x 5. Plus there was Rubberman X 1.5 first try, a run with a few Pdx Blenders both sides, and footed Pdx Drifter>Pdx Torque rpt for the first time in over a year. Mike provided some insight on symp whirls and we both hit a bunch of them; he's really good at them, they should show up in his strings more. And we both tried gyro barrage a few times. Then we got tired and the bag got all sweaty so we went to California Rollin for some sushi. That was a good time, I got stuffed and passed out as soon as my ass hit Mike's car seat. Then I slept on the bus back to Geneseo. Then I staggered off the bus and fell asleep on a couch in the college union for hours. Then I went home and slept for real. Now it's today.

Rochester NYJ 2 = Geneseo Jam 2! It's a two-fer you won't want to miss.
