How long defines a senior member? In June, Jose told me he'd been playing for 6 years.

Again, I'm sorry if I give anyone wrong information. Everybody has to start from somewhere.

Sorry for getting the thread semi-off-topic.

Is there any doubt in anybody's mind that this thread belongs in the Discussion forum? Seriously, shelve your lame conspiracy theory for a second and think about it. This thread belongs here.
Is there any doubt that Sr. Grom has been around long enough that he knew where he wanted this thread when he created it ? Maybe he realised that more people participate in the kicking circle than in the discussion section, perhaps because of the edit button, perhaps just because it has increased readership over this section.

Regardless of where Ken thinks this belongs, it was created by a respected member of the community, and it was picked up and moved with no explanation given other than a mod wanted it out of the kicking circle.

I'll shelve my lame ass conspiracy theory when you can explain why this thread was inappropriate for the kicking circle. As I see it, it could have been placed in either section and been a perfectly acceptable topic. This thread was moved because the mods wanted to kill the topic, and until there is a good explanation given as to why it was inappropriate to hold this discussion in the kicking circle, I'll continue to say it was moved to discourage the topic from further discussion.

This is an example of Number 6, on my original list of why this place is getting worse and worse.

Maybe it belongs in the Challenges forum . . . who really knows. In any case,

the real point of this thread is to get people to think about the quality of their posts and not the quantity.

Don't post if you don't know.
If you're posting opinion, clearly state so.
Don't post if it doesn't need to be said.

Its about productivity, not negativity. I would like this thread to produce some positive influence over the regular posters, to help us to achieve a better forum.

Wow, even though Cammy flamed me in my thread, and he's a cocksucking faggot, I actually AGREE with what he said. Lol.

Oh, and it's 'vice versa'. Man she really likes em dumb doesn't she. Your sentence not only stated the obvious, but it also made no direct connection to your point AND illustrated your poor vernacular.

I bet you just walk around going "Visa Versa!" all the time don't you?

It pains me sometimes when I realize that there's a whole planet full of idiots like you.

Thanks for enlightening me. Why are you so hostile?
If you feel Modified is worse off now than ever before, why is it so?
Because of people posting disrespectful things
Because of Modified's predominant age group
Because of people posting incorrect information
Because Modified's community has grown
Because forums tend to draw introverted troglodytes

Cam, trust me, I know why I do things. I know why I moved this topic. Don't try and tell me otherwise, I find it insulting.

As for your theory that the thread was "picked up and moved with no explanation given," I present to you:

Yeah, that was like, 3 posts earlier than yours. If you're gonna make wild, baseless accusations against me, you might want to make them harder to disprove. That took me like 30 seconds to cut and paste.

Here's my humble opinion:

Modified is modified. It may not be the same thing that it used to be, but that "prime" was before my time. The truth is, as much of a resource as this site is to newcomers, it has become just as much a drama-charged lifestyle for posters of all ages. I feel very confident in stating that the majority of the most active posters on this forum spend more time staring at their computer screen on modified.in than out playing footbag. Amateur stitchers give the most advice and post more often than the most experienced stitchers (almost ALL of whom have completely stopped posting in the bags ive made thread). stupid drama breaks out between ego-centric assholes who feel that A) everyone needs to know about how they're feeling and B) anyone so much as gives a shit. People post conceited opinions that have little to no factual base, people formulate convoluted explanations for shit they know nothing about, and from meaningless bickering over stupid bullshit and self-righteous bantering come grudges that surface at every opportunity. THIS SITE SHOULD BE ABOUT FOOTBAG. SAVE YOUR PATHETIC DRAMA AND GRUDGES.

why should modified be turned into some hyper-regulated child-safe politically correct sterilized noob-fest?

well, it fucking shouldnt.

This place should be an open forum for footbaggers to discuss the things they want- (tricks, equipment, training, style) to further the advancement of the sport itself. It should be for people across the WORLD to communicate about footbag. OK, there are some sub-forums designed for discussion or whatever else, and sure its always interesting to hear the footbag communities views on certain issues. But this place seems to have become a place for kids and middle aged lonely douchebags alike to hang out after school or work or all fucking day to feel like a part of something bigger than themselves. As a substitution for being fit and playing the wonderous exhilarating game of footbag, maybe? I dont know, but if thats what you're here for, join the YMCA, a gym, or better yet get a shred-circle together and make some real friends. Nobody needs you bringing your angst into an otherwise footbag-related community.

The point of all this being that if people dont have a life outside modified, modified is fucked to become liek the rest of the turbulent world. If people can keep the rest of their lives out of the footbag forum, we might not have to deal with all the extra unnecessary bullshit.

I believe moderation is necessary in many cases, and i wouldnt advocate cyber-entropy, because god knows it'd be 100 times worse than the state of the bullshit drama we have now. but you need to ask yourself what you want modified to be. fuck, shit, cock, cunt, bastard, bitch. GET OVER YOURSELVES. nobody gives a FUCK if you're offended. the world is an offensive place, and LIKE IT OR NOT, everyones got JUST AS MUCH OF A RIGHT TO OFFEND YOU AS YOU HAVE TO BE OFFENDED. or wait, are you just better than everyone else?

heres the real question: are you going to see past insignificant drama and pay attention to the real point of the threads in question? can we possibly keep the topics pertaining to footbag instead of branching off aimlessly? Do you think anyone really cares who "wins" the arguments you have? when and if an argument surfaces, nobody ever benefits. the point is always lost and nobody gains anything but INTERNET PENIS SIZE. NOBODY ON THIS FORUM CARES ABOUT YOUR INTERNET PENIS. WE CARE ABOUT FOOTBAG. if you cannot stop arguing, do it in PMs where nobody else has to deal with it. The only reason why this doesnt take place is because people feel like everyone has to KNOW what their argument is. NOBODY FUCKING CARES until you douche it all over a publically viewable thread where others will chime in with various forms of "shut the fuck up".

The age group plays a big part in this i suppose, but as we've seen with several good examples some of the most whiny and immature douchebags on this forum are much older than the info-hungry overzealous (and often annoying) kids that post...
Now im only 20 years old, but then again, i dont post very often.

save the drama for yo momma. whenever you feel angry about something on the internet, go play footbag instead of remembering how lonely and insignificant you are and trying to take it out on someone here. or, for all i care, find the people who piss you off and physically beat the crap out of them. at least that way you'll go to prison and we wont have to deal with you any more.

im not gonna take the time to preview and edit this, feel free to be offended by it, in fact i hope it strikes close to home for several members of Modified, then again, i wrote it for everyone else, not for you, and i could really care less what YOU think anyway, i only hope posting this could help avoid pointless bullshit some time in the future, and create a better modified.

peace homies.

It took me more time than that to think about it, and then determine that because you thought it was too deep for the kicking circle is not a valid reason to move a thread. The topic was perfectly acceptable material for the kicking circle and the discussion was being embraced by the community in that section.

You moved it because you wanted to bring the conversation to a close, and nothing you can say will convince me otherwise. Just because you have mod status does not make your words more true than mine. It's a my word vs your word situation, and I reject your explanation for moving the thread.

This is just another example of a moderator stepping in where they were not required to do so by their own rules, were not requested to intervene by the community, and were not needed to be seen because the topic was not out of hand in any way, shape, or form.

1) New people are being brought here before they are players, destroying the sense of community.
(My opinion)
This is important. Resources should be available to pre-players, but the community shouldn't. Soon, an updated reference section will be available at footbag.org. This should take the place of "getting started" , and should decrease the amount of threads in "trick tips", "health and injuries", "bags and equipment", and possible "general footbag".

With the reference up, newbies and extra-newbies will have a resource that they can go to, that will give them comprehensive information about the sport. That means modified can become an inclusive community. There are a lot of systems that could be used for member induction, but general requirements could be something like
-you have to join the IFPA
-you have to play footbag for 6 months
-you have to go to 2 or more tournaments
Or they could be based on something else entirely. Like member referral.
(Opinion ended)

Cam, we are not the bunch of lying, subversive, power-hungry, manipulative, inconsiderate jerks that you paint us to be. We want to help this community by doing little bits of janitorial work (like the moving of this serious topic to the more serious subforum, deletion of spam, etc etc) and stepping in when a topic degenerates in to pointless flamery or super offensiveness. No one wants this topic to go away. That's a ridiculous accusation for you to make. Mods "frequently" move topics to the discussion forum that we want to die? I've never heard of this practice. Want to give some examples?

As a group, the moderators would really like to see community input and discussion of the things that bother the community members in a mature way. No one is trying to silence anyone. Make a topic in the Kicking circle about this one here in the discussion forum and link to it, and ask for input from the community, if you're so sure that having the awareness of people who read Kicking Circle is absolutely key to this being discussed. If you wanted it moved back, you could have brought up the fact that you were unhappy with it being moved in a more constructive, less accusatory manner.

I don't know about the rest of the mod staff
, but frankly, if this online community is chock full of people who would rather see no moderation whatsoever, I am comfortable with, and more than willing to, step down or temporarily suspend any of my moderator duties and actions for a trial period.

So, if you (anyone) as a community member feel that there should be no more moderation on modified, speak up now, and give us good reasons why. I'm not saying that this hasn't been done already, I would just like to see more response to the issue than the opinions of a very few who feel strongly about it.

Frankly, I'd guess that most of the community doesn't care about the current level of moderation, or even notice it that often.

oh, and miller, what brought you back? I thought we were all assholes who were too immature and stupid to be worth your time.

"it pains me sometimes when I realize that there's a whole planet full of idiots like you."

yeah, right. That's whole problem here. Everyone is an idiot except chris miller...

the problems you have with modified have nothing to do with the fact that you're an immature, self-centered, emotionally unstable whack job who feels that anything he does is justified once he feels (correctly or incorrectly) that he's in the right... right?

I hope I never have to deal with your ridiculous presence at a footbag event again. Why don't you go somewhere else, where everyone will bask in the glow of your genius all the time, instead of troubling yourself with all us jerks who are so far behind and below you that you don't have to show a single one of us an ounce of respect?

oh, and your pixies are the.

Yes!!!

People need to keep a better signal to noise ratio on this forum. What I mean by that who most of their posts add no VALUE. In the old days of USENET you could just killfilter people who you didn't want to listen to, now you can't.

Posts we shouldn't have to see:
 "OMG that is the coolest/sweetest/awesomest/dopest/[insert unoriginal adjective here] bag I've ever seen~!!!11!1" in bags and equipment. If you like someone's bag and think it's great, send them a PM. I don't want to see this post 5 times on every page, it's CLUTTER.

 In news runs "OMGROLZOR I hit ducking clipper > infinity LOL :?: :x :D :D 8) :P ". That's not a run. That's a link. I don't want to hear about every time you linked two tricks together. Can we set a minimum number of contacts that you must hit for it to be considered a RUN? Like say, 10? That would be nice. It doesn't have to be mandatory, just good general modified etiquette.

 In new tricks can people please wait till they have at least 4 or 5 new tricks to report? It's annoying to see someone post about flip something or other and then 4 or 5 posts down another new trick they hit. Save it. Wait a week. Wait till you've got 4 or 5 new tricks to report. It will look much more impressive, I promise.

 "That is idea would never work / is dumb / is stupid" with no suggestion for something else. That sort of post provides no value. If you think an idea someone proposed is lame, offer your alternative that you think is better. ADD VALUE.

 And for the love of footbag, lastly could people please stop posting advice to other people about:
 :!: tricks/concepts they can't hit
 :!: stitching if they aren't yet a reputable bag seller

Thank you. Remember, ADD VALUE, not clutter.

i agree that those posts are annoying ben, except for the new runs thread. that has always been synonomous with "new combos" as far as the thread is concerned.

i think that the moderators job is to keep the forum tidy by moving posts to the proper section of the forum, not to edit or delete posts or even lock argumentative threads. as a whole this community is mature and problems will sort themselves out. and if not, the worst that can happen is a flame war and those can be fun anyway.
