A Modified Challenge
I wrote a post in the "reconstruction" vibe but figured it would fall on deaf ears and deleted it.
And to Matt, I love you in real life, but that post was uncalled for. Your a Mod. Your supposed to being fixing problems, not adding to them. Two wrongs don't make a right. I don't care how much you hate Chris, no one deserves to be told to not come to a tournament again. Be the bigger man.

oh yeah? well you didn't have at least 5 or 6 vicious PMs back and forth to really change your opinion of either people you just mentioned. So, maybe you're not up to speed on my reasoning, buddy. What, do you think I'm just pulling this all out of my ass? making it up?Zeb Jackson wrote:this thread makes me a sad panda
i dont like to see people who were friends a month ago flaming each other, and hoping they never see them again or whatever, i think its kinda lame
boo fuckin hoo. chris miller sucks.
edit: sorry, dc. I love you too.
who cares if I'm a mod? all I hear about my mod-hood is how I'm infringing on the rights of you all by overstepping my bounds. I try to do a little janitorial work, and RARELY cut a problem off before it becomes worse and worse, and suddenly I'm some kind of overbearing asshole who's infringing on free speech, or not doing enough to curb it. I can't win. None of us can.
If I can't speak my mind about what a fucking dick chris is, then I don't want to be a mod. especially if I'm going to get harassed about being a mod by assholes like chris, and held responsible for not obeying his every whim and desire, and further harassed for trying to give him my reasons for why I didn't agree with his problems. you have no idea regarding the amount of shit he has talked to me about all footbaggers and modified users (except you and chris balch, coincidentally, dave. He specifically excluded you two).
So, this is my resignation.
You sign up, DC. Give it a try. You've been around long enough, I bet you could get on the mod staff if you asked. that's how I did it.
try being the voice of the rules, try keeping a little order, and being as helpful and informative to newbs as possible, and getting shit on for trying to keep the peace and clean up other peoples messes. It's great fun, let me tell you.
Especially when one of your favorite freestylers chastizes you for speaking up and telling a fucking asshole who's a detriment to the forum and the community to fuck off and save us the trouble of his obnoxious presence.
It's really great. You'll love it.

Oh snap.
We can talk about it all fucking day, and nothing will change. There will always be immatue, innane, and inflamatory posting, and there will always be people disrespecting eachother for no good reason.
C'est la Dramafied. Get used to it. (Or if you are a mod, I'm sorry, good luck with this mess.)

It's a very good challenge Jeremy and it's sad to see that people fail to meet it in the very topic setting it. I think it's a case where we have to accept that there isn't one problem but a number of problems.
I would like to say, to those people who agree with me that modified could be a lot better than what it is, that if you have some patience, I am sure that the problems can and will be resolved in the near future. While it would be possible to really address them now, I think clear solutions will be much easier to see soon. Unfortunately for good reason, I have sworn to secrecy (the reason being it might take longer than I think it should - ironically) so I can't really put forward the solutions now. Still, I think rather than worrying about these trivial and immature fights that seem rampart at the moment (and I certainly can't claim a lack of responsibility for them either), it would be much better for the moment to be patient and have some faith that things will be and can be resolved. If you're somebody I know well (and trust), I would be happy to discuss this further via email or msn but really I see this current fighting as completely counter productive and negative. If you want to be part of that, fine, that's your choice. Certainly there is a great deal of animosity between certain people on modified (myself included) and I think it would be asking a great deal to tell these people to put that aside - as reasonable as that request may sound - I'm sure the people who harbour that animosity would not see it as a reasonable request, indeed it's probable that this post will provoke a direct or indirect flame.
I think it's important not to allow your attitude to effect your judgement. As footbaggers, we should know that if you have a negative attitude towards something, you'll never be good at it. The same goes for internet forums. Since leaving modified, I joined a completely different philosophy/science based forum - which admittedly is made up of about 90% trolls. However amongst the remaining 10% I've made as many good friends as I made through modified - we've re-implemented the postcard exchange that I started here and there is a no doubt in my mind that this forum is very well run, despite large amount of arguments, flames and people posting about things they don't know about (I've seen 5 people suggest that gravity is caused by the Earth's magnetic field).
The point is that dismissing the quality of modified as "all internet forums are like that" is a bad attitude and indeed false. While most internet forums do indeed have problems, there are some great exceptions. www.hyperactive.com.au is a forum that my brother posts on a lot, it is a video game forum and it is inside the top 1000 internet forums (in terms of members). It definitely still has problems and is not perfect but at the same time, it is clearly run very well, it has a very strong community and I think it smashes the paradigms of internet forums.
Instead I think it would be clearly a much more profitable exercise to accept the fact that many people, especially longer term members of the forum, are unhappy with it at the moment and to make every effort to accommodate those people, rather than dismiss them. This attitude of accommodating and addressing these issues, rather than attacking and dismissing them should be coming from the moderators, if the current system is to work. It's easy to see why they would instead react the way they are reacting - in a defensive manner (especially c-fan and Matt Cross) but that also seems unproductive. Perhaps they could take on board the challenge offered by this topic. Regardless, as I said at the start of this post, I think patience is probably the best policy for the moment. I think it's clear that we've learnt that moderators are only human and I don't think you can expect more of them than any other forum member. I do think a good attitude is the most crucial part of the job and I never felt like I had significant problems with the non-moderator members of the forum. Indeed the reasons I resigned 3 times always stemmed from irreconcilable disagreements with how the admins were running the forum.

The way I see it, MOST of modified's problems occur in the Kickin' It section of this forum. So, maybe a little break from the Kickin' It section (aka lockdown) would be a good idea. It won't fix the major problems but it will stop the smaller problems from growing and new one's from forming. Maybe if modified is used exclusively for footbag discussion for awhile, things will cool off a bit.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

I bet you just walk around going "Visa Versa!" all the time don't you?
It pains me sometimes when I realize that there's a whole planet full of idiots like you.
You live a sad, limited, pathetic little life. I feel sorry for you, really I do. I hope in the next life you are able to get a girlfriend who doesn't laugh at you because you were born with micro penis.

I could say the same fucking thing about your post, zeb. give it a second's thought before another post where you cry. Sorry to single you out again, but you're responding directly to me again, even though you're not saying my name.Zeb Jackson wrote:is it possible to express opinion without being chastized for it anymore![]()

I haven't been playing for very long or been on modified very long but I know that I don't like to argue. I'm sorry if I've made posts that people thought were irrelevant or not helpful or useful in any way or whatever but I just wanted to come here and make some friends. Have some buddies to talk about footbag with. But when there are players who have been here awhile complaining about those kinds of posts it kind of just turns me off to the whole thing. I dunno. Like I said I just wanted to come here and make friends. Not intentionally "clutter" threads with possibly "useless" posts.

WTF!? Where's my micropenis? Fair enough it was against the rules, but the rules also state pretty clearly that mods must sign all edits. If it's your job to enforce the rules, you should definitely be able to follow them yourselves.
