How Much Do The Online Comps Mean To You?
Yeah I just totally agree with you footymatt, yeah seeing the pro's like Anz, and videos of comps or hardcore shredding is really nice, but I can't even get how to do the tricks, seeing the novice comps have really helped my progress cause I have seen lot of new tricks, made in different ways, they're not all really clean, but when playing with better players I just asked them how I should do it. I've learned lots of stuff from those!

yeah know, thanks to the online comps, My drive to hit new stuff turned me to almost landing...toe set (left) symposium ducking rev. whirl!! almost hit it. I'm like right there. Maybe a vid for the future is going to come soon?!? I'm am trying to stay at my level (2-3 adders) for the sick 3 though. But If I can pull a nice trick out of someone's bag to put in on sick 1 then I'd be good to go. ROCK n' STALL DUDES!!

I think online comps encourage people to school the wrong way. It teaches you to try to play above your level and doesn't really give any thought to being both sided. It has kids who can't do 10 infinities linking 4's.
The online contests (in their current format) may offer everyone a little ego boost, but they mean nothing. I think number of tries should be posted next to the video for a more accurate portrayal of consistancy. (I hit my sick 1 4th try I believe for the record, which would fly in competition).
Something like 100 infinities would be much more beneficial to new players. Trying to add hunt so you can be ranked by people on the internet doesn't do much for a new generation of shredders.
I have entered in the past because I have either been asked to or because I had footage laying around. Having a session just to make a sick 3/1 seems a tad overkill when real tournaments give you like 5 tries.
But I'm the only one that feels this way, so disregard the above.

maybe it could be based in a tournament sort of situation like you get 7 tries or so like a real tournament, and it has to be un edited and whatnot

Your not the Only one David, I feel the same way. I also feel like the people who are serious about footbag who utilize the information available to them will make the right choice and dial shit rather than move busting.

Yeah, I see what you mean David and definately agree that would be a negative impact. I have read stories of people gaining a lot of motivation from it though, so I guess it would even out in the end. I enter the biggest trick I can hit at that point, if I get around to it. It doesn't really dictate what I work on at all. Then again I've always been into big moves anyway.
I strive to hit something better for my next comp entry, but if you look at my video history of what I've submited you'll see that I'm "on track" for a noobie. As far as my next big trick goes, If it feels comfortable to try I will. If I so happen to get that on film....then I send it in. I didn't put in on the june or whatever comps cause I was focusing on getting better with what I got. My next online sick 3 is going to be (if I can hit it) a flip side set of tricks. These flip side tricks are going to be tricks I can do good on my right and not my left. So I will be focusing on showing off how I can do the same thing or better on my left, as opposed to a "look at my right side get so much better" big trick.
I also think that maybe you could hold some sort of online comp with consectives. Send in a vid of someone hitting 100 dimwalks or something like that. See people hitting em' and the comp could go forever getting bigger and bigger. Of course at some point the numbers would be so big that noobies would see that and turn away thinking that by the time they get that on video they'll be a new record to beat. Making it seem impossible anyways. Just a thought.
P.S. Dave: I still got those vids from the 2006 east champs, If I remember i'll post them on you tube or something this weekend. I can't remember right now who it was, but another modified.in user asked me to post them, so They're coming dude! Oh I saw a guy filming you the first day, in the parking lot there by the net site. Do you have any of that video?

Maybe we could try saying that your Sick 3 or Sick 1 video must have both flipside and strong side to count... that would probably motivate people to school both sides more. Not sure if that would be a good idea, just a suggestion.

I was more refering to the exact combo on opposite sides. Not just using both sides in one combo. Say, just for example, you hit: DLO ending on right foot> SS Butterfly> Dyno with a delay on the right foot. You'd also have to do it with the DLO on the left foot>SS Butterfly> Dyno with a delay on the left foot. Same thing, just opposite sides. I think that makes sense... tell me if it doesn't though heh.

I fully with what David is saying. For new players to progress the fastest they should be able to link 20 infinities before even trying ripwalks or barflies. Problem is: that's incredibly boring and when you're starting off you want to hit bigger tricks, hell I know I was add-hunting when I started off too.
What's the harm in that? Slower progression? Fine.
I see these comps as an ego-boost and also as a way to archive what one was hitting at some point in time.
Also for what it's worth, I don't think that sending in vids of players taking 7 tries will solve anything. At worst it will make judging a nightmare.
Finally, regarding what David and other were saying, I would *probably* rate a super controlled and styled butter > whirl > pdx mirage higher than a super sketchy dimwalk > ripwalk > barfly.

Anssi's five cents:
I don't see a problem with players trying tricks and combos above their level, vice versa I think that it encourages players to try new tricks and links. Even failure lefts you with some more adds one the shoes.
And when one sees a kid hitting sick3 above his level, one should say "Wow, he really pushed his limits", no matter how many tries he had.
It's lame seeing pros hit whirl beasts in four tries, they don't bother to push their limits for one session to hit something they haven't before.
Live competitions have limited tries, but these are online comps, these are about pushing your limits and going for the same combo over and over again.
If those kids are just going for big tricks and not skooling basics - it's their problem, and they can't blame the online comps for it.
I myself am going to enter the next sick3 with a 4>4>4 combo where both toes and both clippers are used and involving no paradox or xdex moves.
