there's no way i can be there that early
I need to get my glasses fixed, all the sweating I do seemed to have loosened the cement/glue used to hold the ear piece, so i need to get the problem fixed before i can play.

Duncan Footbags Demo

I got an email from Emily that said I might get a request from duncan footbags to do a demo. 2 weeks later I got an email asking me to play footbag at the chicago toy and game convention - Chi-TAG. He said maybe someone else could come, so Zeke and I headed out last saturday to play some footbag.

Extreme Spin is a store based out of south chicagoland that sells duncan products among other things - mostly yo yos. Rich, the owner, had his booth at the convention. He was a cool guy. Mike, who asked us to do the demo works directly for duncan promotions I think - not sure, but not for extreme spin. There was a bunch of dope yo yoers there.

We arrived and took the spider and the roadrunner, the intermediate and advanced duncan footbags, and sat down at a table to modify them to be playable. When we first took them out of the package we were surprised at how huge they were. We cut a hole in the spider and found a bag of sand inside. A bag wihin a bag. Kinda weird. Though neither of them seemd very bad. They were both stallable, and not overstuffed, but they were too light. So we refilled the spider with various beads and weight, but didn't end up using it very much.

There wasn't any space at the extreme spin booth because there were so many yoyoers, so Zeke and I moved around the convention every now and then and played footbag. We went on stage @ 2pm, and I think it went very well. The stage was a little shaky, which was scary, but we managed some good footbag with plenty of crowd pleasing moves and big aerial DLO's and eggbeaters. The yo yoer's were totally crazy, awesome stuff, especially the main guy from duncan. He did some tricks with a top that was so cool; I'd never seen that b4. After we got off stage, several people told us how good we were, and bravo, etc.

After macking on this cute intern, and getting some lunch, Zeke and I set up the 2 square court (recently built by Zeke) near the entrance to the fair. I think this was the best thing we could have done, because we got plenty of audience and kudos from them (no not the granola bars). We decided to use the Roadrunner (duncan's advanced footbag) which proved to be a good bag. It was 3 intense games and a buch of playing around. Zeke seemed indestructible and almost won all 3 games.

It would have been nice to play by the extreme spin booth so people could see the products we were using, but i think the spot by the entrance worked out as well. Maybe a banner next time or more space at the booth.

After the 2 square we started a circle with some of the yoyoers (the extreme spin team?). Mostly kciked it around but did some freestyle strings too. We were still using the roadrunner. I was pretty surprised at how it performed. It was too light and way too big, but definitely playable - and stringable. This dude mentioned how his nickname was gravedigger, and I said - hey that's a footbag move, and said I wouldn't be able to hit it with the roadrunner, but tried anyway - and I hit it! also strings with ripwalk and pixie moves and it worked alright. Definitely good for advanced-beginners.

After we got home we popped the CD into the computer, the Cd that came in the footbag package, and were pleasantly surprised at its contents. It had info and video on moves, correct terminology, history and also a good video featuring ....Kumba, or something from South Africa. I had no idea this video was ever made. I mean - he's a real freestyler, hitting atom smasher etc. I woulda loved to have gotten such a CD when I started.

I appreciate Duncan feeling the true footbag scene. And promoting it with real footbag players. Hopefully they advance with us in the sport, and there will be nice playable footbags out there, with information for the newbies all around.

Yay! I'm glad to hear that your experience working with Duncan went as well as mine did. Sounds like you guys did a great job. :-D
