Footbag.org's promotion of freestyle footbags?
Hello, I have been recently preparing an informative speech on footbag. First off I'd like to say how useful footbag.org is with reliable information that I can use as a source, but I also had to look up the best kinds of freestyle footbags. I was wondering if anyone knew why in .org's information about freestyle bags that they no where say anything about individually hand made bags? We all know the best bags are made like that. It just seemed kind of odd to me that it wasn't mentioned at all.
since theyre non profit, theres some rule about selling products that arent theirs or talk of money. theres plenty of threads about whos bag should i get and why, but price and sales have to be done thru personal emails (to the stitcher)
or atleast thats what i have come to understand.
sorry if im not correct, you should ask a ifpa person like jeremy owheel, or steve goldberg. they would know for sure

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough about my question. I was reading their what footbags should you get FAQ part and all that was talked about were footbags distributed by companies and such. What I wanted to know was why they didn't put anything about privately stitched bags as being a good source to get good bags from as well?

I know what you are saying, but at the same time they did make referance to 32 panels and stuff sold by retailers. Those are pretty expensive. I guess this is just more of why leave out such a big part of footbag?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my question because I'm not gonna post in here anymore. I don't like making to many posts.

the 32 panel style is a patented style. thats why youre not supposed to sell 32 panels on ebay... unless youre the dude that patented the style (or pay for the rights)
companies like planet footbag sell 32 panels that are stitched by stitchers... like ilja and abshire. planet footbag buys the bags from the stitchers... then sells them at retail. stitchers, their contact info, their styles, their prices, and their availability change a lot. putting your name on a website saying "hey these are my footbags and im selling them" is putting out a huge commitment on the stitcher's part. what if you decide you dont want to sell publicly... then youd have to go and contact so many people to get your name taken off the website.
flipsider lets you put up an ad for your footbags for 60 or 90 days... but you have to agree that if anyone asks you to stitch them a bag, you cant decline... you have to make the bags ordered.
if youre wanting information on stitchers then you should go to the stitcher contact info thread. i know thats not what you want to hear, that you want to know about footbag.org, but not all stitchers want to make footbags for kids that are gonna send you the bag back in a week with a busted stitch because they toe scuff. theyll send a bag back saying "you must have stitched this wrong" rather than think maybe youre supposed to take care of footbags.
footbag.org is nonprofit, so talking about money or advertising is out of the question. you can go on there and say "i bought this bag from this person and it rocks" but you cant say "i bought this bag for this much money". and with as many new, up and coming stitchers that there are, how are they supposed to keep up with what bags are good?... they keep up with it from the reviews people post. if you want the information about stitchers to be out there, then you need to be the one who does it. no ones gonna write your paper for you.
most papers need more than one source in the works cited... you should be looking at other sites rather than just footbag.org if you want other answers.
brian already gave you answers to your question... but they arent what youre looking for, right? you want someone to complain along with you?

From my experience the best way to get an accurate answer to a question about footbag.org is to e-mail Steve Goldberg. Brat at footbag dot org.
Jeremy: Glad to be of service. I always enjoy your charming wit and sarcasm.

Re: Footbag.org's promotion of freestyle footbags?
I think it's probably a case of the FAQ not being updated for a very long time, and nobody offering to contribute to footbag.org. The few people who do contribute have more important priorities than that, so sadly the information at footbag.org is getting more and more out of date. I am sure that if you emailed Steve and told him that you were happy to contribute FAQs and other information, and then you wrote them out very well, he'd be happy to update those details, or even give you the permissions to do it yourself. (assuming you could convince him of your English skills).sniper4life wrote:Hello, I have been recently preparing an informative speech on footbag. Emily: I'm sure Steve appreciates you posting is email address like that, because we all know how much he loves spam.
The thing about the FAQ is....
it's one of the things getting replaced by the reference section. So yes it's out of date right now, but whenever Steve decides to launch, it will no longer be so.
Don't get me wrong though, it's neither perfect nor done yet. The nature of the new reference section is that it can be updated by someone besides Steve.
p.s.-
(I hope that makes sense. I mean I contribute but don't have important priorities than that)

Glad to here it. I was exaggerating slightly, although when you compare the amount of time and effort that goes into other places, I'm sure you have to wonder how much of an exaggeration that is.
I was told not to mention the new updates at all, and have done my best to follow those wishes unquestionably until now. The small look I've seen was probably the second most exciting moment of my footbag life, after seeing freestyle footbag for the first time.

I thought the arrival of the reference section was publicly announced as going to happen? I've been pretty hush hush about it when it comes to details, but I thought the general idea was already out.
In fact, here it is, right from good ol footbag.org (october 29, 2006)

!! Footbag.org moves to a new server!
It isn't anything that you can really see from the outside looking in, but we've just done a major overhaul of our "infrastructure" to support footbag.org. This change took several months of work and results in slightly faster and much more stable serving capacity for footbag.org and its related features.
If you use our spam-reducing e-mail alias service, our web site, our group communication service, the footbag discussion forum, or any of our other great services and features, you should notice a slight improvement in reliability and performance.
With this necessary work behind us, it's now time to start making other, more visible improvements. (Stand by for the new "Reference" section, coming soon.)
