[edit-top of page so i'll quote the brunt of what dave posted]
Cleaver wrote:Uh, I guess I should post a funny band name.... but I don't think any band names are really too great. I think Incubus is a cool name, cuz its some really old english word for monster. Kinda neat. I think The Postal Service is a good name. I think The All American Rejects is the worst band name ever created. Sorry little billy.
oh david, so very true. i was just thinking that earlier as i read through this thread. they're in a class of their own.

On a semi-related note, I had a friend who was in a folk/country band, and when they were brainstorming for names, he proposed "penetranus." I just like that name for a folk band.

My favorite is PlanesMistakenForStars.

I like how the name, when spoken, could also mean plain people mistaken for celebrities.

I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness is one of my favorite band names - nice.

I would like to see concerts that are organized entirely around the band names. For instance, you could have a bill like this:

Buck65
Plus/Minus
50 Cent

Or

We are wolves
Vs.
We are scientists

But then it would actually be a panel discussion from leading academics, and all the hipsters would be pissed that they got suckered into a panel discussion instead of seeing a concert. Except the really ironic hipsters. They'd be overjoyed.

But this is what I want to know: is the gap closing?

Anyway, some band names I like:

Send for Help
Death Cab for Cutie
TV on the Radio
The Kinks
Jean Grae
Busdriver
The Strokes
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Dead by Monday
The New Pornographers
Atmosphere
Big Pun (I thought this was such an idiotic name at first, but then after meditating atop a mountain for fourty years I became aware of its multifaceted glory)
Velvet Teen
