New Shoes: Adidas Servers

Alright, so I was at the Adidas store yesterday hoping to pickup a new pair of Lavers as the pair I've had for almost a year barely have any sole left. Well, they only had the Rod Laver vintage and the Rod Laver hi-top. Neither of those are playable shoes. WTF mate?! I did however, find a shoe that looked like it would fit the bill. It's the Adidas Server. It looks kinda like a cross between a leather laver and a g-unit. They were on sale for $30 USD, how could I resist?

Check it out yo. These are size 12.5 US:

So these bad boys mod just like leather lavers. Open up the toe box by seperating the sides from the toe near the last lace eyelet. Cut off the inside surface with a knife being careful not to pierce the mesh. Then cut off most of toe leather, again not piercing the material underneath:

Then lace those suckers up and you're in business:

Thoughts on playability:
These honestly feel like they were made for footbag. They are lightweight but perhaps a tinge heavier than lavers, which can be fixed easily with a drill mod if one were so inclined. The support is better than the laver which I like, because I am fairly prone to shin splints. Also, I think they are narrower too, which I like because I have narrow feet and Lavers are a bit wide on me. Both the toe surface and inside surface are grrrreat for both delays and sets. I'm in love. These things are great. So yeah, go check em out for yourself.

The toe looks like it's been modded too far ahead, almost reaching the tip. The leather could be cut midway so that awkward toe sets won't be a possibility. And, well, some protection for your toes at least.

I don't know, that's just me. I'm not too familiar on shoes with a rounded toe. Clipper platform looks very consistent too.

Hows the clipper rail, it looks a wee bit thinner than the lavers. Also, I find that oh-so-many Adidas shoes are practically identical to the Rod Lavers, it is just that the Clipper Rail is always so thin..

Yeah, but they're better. They had Stan Smiths at the Adidas store and they looked like they would be better than your average shoe, but these were better than the Stans.

The toe partially is a function of how I modded them, leaving no leather on the tip. I don't particularly like front toe walls, I think they inhibit sets IMO. If you ever see Kenny Shults' Lavers he actually files down the front toe walls somehow. I am able to pixie in these higher and more consistently in these than I am able to in Lavers.

It's about the same thickness, but slightly stiffer.

It maybe like a millimeter or two smaller than lavers. IMHO a big clipper rail can interfere with sets. It's just right for me. IMHO if you are experience lots of roll-off, a clipper rail isn't your problem, it's a form problem with clippers. I've shredded in these, the clipper rail is sufficient for me.

Thanks yo. Video definitely coming in January! Me and a couple other dudes made an Xmas calendar video, but it was before I got these shoes. December is a busy month for me applying to grad school, studying for the GREs, negotiating my (hopeful) promotion at work, year-end at work, the holidays... ugh. But I have a video camera now and kickass song picked out

Had a short session them last night:

Symposium moves feel like less impact due to stronger soles.

Was hitting eggbeater much more consistently than usual. Toe sets are very sharp.

First attempt at pixie I set it face height to my own amazement. I've never set it that high. I was able to duck my pixies on my strong side for the first time ever.

Loving these things so far!

One thing about the pixie sets: do you keep the toe walls on your lavers? Is the reason you can now pixie better due to the walls being further back and therefore being able to slide the bag off the side of the foot?

The inner layer of fabric was falling off. I realized it was actually a middle layer of fabric and there is another layer underneath. This layer is much softer and looks more like the G-unit inner layer. It's less rolly and much more ideal for playing:

Odd lacing method, anyways. I saw a pair of these at the 'local' foot locker. I remembered your post and was going to pick them up. ( 20.99+tax ) I decided against it though, they looked a little too narrow for my paddle-ass feet

Yes. I have narrow feet so it works well for me. When I had lavers and I had to lace them soooo tight, and they still felt loose. If you have wide feet, these are NOT the shoe for you.
