Hey F.A.T., I've been thinking about starting our club website alot lately. I think its a good step towards building a footbag scene more quickly in Toronto and GTA. Canada's largest city should have more than 6 or 8 active players (of which we never see more than three at a time)! Don't you think?

Erik graciously offered to host our site on Hackrifice, and I have lots of webspace myself, so I think we're ok in that department. (Unless we start uploading tons of videos).

Registering a domain name is an obvious first step. footbagtoronto.com and fattoronto.com are available. Can anyone think of any better names?

I think the site should be simple at first, with nothing more than player profiles and contact info, directions/maps to usual shred spots, a link to this Blog, some basic footbag info and links to good info and video sites, sunday shred times and locations.

What do you dudes think? I can build the page myself and make it look rad (when I get back from my vacation, that is).

Until then, please let me know what you think. Does anyone have skills or knowledge that they think might be useful?

EDIT: f-a-t.org is available too! I like that one.

Profiles! MAN! I've always wanted my own internet profile! Hahaha.
I don't know what I can do to help, aside from maybe taking pictures with my digital camera of shred spots.

As for domains, I think footbagtoronto.com would probably get the most hits from people interested in the sport just doing random searches.

As for e-mails, I'd be happy to reply to as many new shredders as can make their way to the site. I'd love to see more talent develop in this city, I know the potential is there!

Wow cool -- this website thing sounds so exciting! Photos of shred spots, player profiles... I can definately make some videos, and I have a digital camera too... and I can help with website stuff.

Personally I like footbagtoronto.com and then f-a-t.com. FootbagToronto.com is really easy to say and for people to understand...it's kind of more work to explain "eff hyphen aye(?) hyphen tee dot com".

We should make new cards too!

I'm thinking of buying a 32 and I need help choosing, since the last time I bought one was back in like 2000 when Juice bags were just going out of style...

I had a Trevor Hibbs a couple years ago and LOOOOVED it, but I'm quite sure he's out of footbag (anyone know?)

What was that bag we played with at my place, Mike? A footfighter?
I'm also looking for something as inexpensive as possible...
Suggestions?

Sigh... I wrote an exam yesterday at 8 a.m. Thank god that's over, but I still have another take-home due on the 15th, and then 3 films to make, a photography project, web design projects, an essay, and an art review to work on over the break.

I have been planning a FAT website for a long time, but the only person that was capable of building it was Billy, and he is always super busy (permanent student, 3 jobs, living on his own, etc). I am finally learning how to build a website in school, and though I'm not that good at it yet, I really want to at least help with it. I had thought of the same things- player profiles, maps, photos, videos, footbag info, links, etc. A message board would be cool too. I know we'd have a link to this blog, but a message board directly on the site is important, especially for people who just meet us on the street, want to drop us a line, but don't want to sign up for anything.

And the name- we did some research on this too. I had thought of FreestyleFAT.com, because to say FATfootbag or FATtoronto or something would be redundant. But I like the simplicity of FootbagToronto.com. People will be more willing to visit it since it's obvious what the site's about. I agree with Erik that f-a-t.org or whatever is too hard to explain, and it's also something people would be uneasy about visiting (it could be ANYTHING, haha).

As soon as the site is up I will be ordering new business cards, in fact, that's the reason I haven't ordered more of the ones I already designed.

Other things on the site that would be cool would be:

- merchandise: Mike's wicked shirts, some shirt ideas Paul, Andrew and I have had, that shorts idea I had, stickers, pins, and bags if any of us ever get off our lazy horses and start stitching

and

-membership! I'd want it to be something that people would have to request from us, so that we'd have to authorize it. I really hate that just anyone can join FAT on .org without even talking to us, ever. It makes me happy when they join at first, but when they don't contact us or even respond to my emails, what's the point? So the membership would be cool if in order to get it, they had to request it, and then we set up the account for them and gave them access to their profile and such. That way everyone is responsible for their own personal image within the club.

Mike, I didn't know you knew web design stuff. Coding is such a bitch. And although programs like dreamweaver make it easier, there's a lot they don't do or that they fuck up that you have to just know. I'd love to work with you on this, I've been dying to do it for so long and just didn't know how. It would really help me with my other work, too.

And oh yeah, for hosting, I'd rather that it be its own thing and not a run-off of another site. Thanks for the offer Erik, you're the best, but I think we'll be fine with our own thing. My dad has a lot of webspace he can give us, he has some package to space like 100 sites, and he's only used like 2.

Anyway, let me know what you think. And thanks for bringing this up, I was hoping to get on it soon.

Cool Camille! Maybe you're better suited to handle this project than I. Your ideas are great! I don't know HTML or flash- I just use Dreamweaver

Maybe I could just help with the visual side of things...

Membership is a good idea too. I know footbaggers are all broke-ass, but it might be a good idea to charge a one-time fee for membership. The fees could offset any web/business card promo costs, and membership could include an official FAT jersey! Just a thought... It would be awesome for us all to rock festivals next year wearing our colours! (I always wanted to be in a gang)

I think I like FootbagToroto.com the best so far. Its the easiest to say and remember.

The whole website thing sounds killer, I think that we should all have an assigned task so we can share the load equally. Or as equally as possible. Maybe during the break when no-one has school we could get the ball rolling, throw some ideas out there and see how that goes. But in general it all sounds cool. As for merchandise...we would need some money first...i think we should deal with the site first...

Btw, this sunday...when/where for the shred session? Im in..unless i break my legs...i hope not

Uh... I don't know if you're aware, Alex, but Mike has already been selling shirts that he has designed. Money and product are not exactly an issue. But obviously we would finish the site before worrying about merchandise. In fact, at first the site will be completed without the merchandise section and many others. It will be very basic and simple. I'm just looking at the big picture, because this club has been a big part of my life and I have been dreaming of this stuff for like 5 years.

And secondly, splitting up the work "equally" is virtually impossible. Most people aren't even capable of doing what we need to do, and we're not about to just give out the responsibility to everyone in the club. Certain people have been in administrative control of this club for many years... I think we have a good grasp of what needs to get done.

Yeah i know about the merchandise, but when we are thinking of memberships and Jerseys and stuff...i just thought that could set us back a considerable amount...

When i meant about sharing the work load equally, was pretty much having people do what ever they can. Obvisously some ppl wont be as useful as others, but in general it should be a team effort.

You guys seem to know whats goin down, but i just thought i'd say my opinion...weather u use it is your call, but it couldnt hurt.

Erik, maybe if there are only a few people coming you should decide and let them know about a location. Bahen centre is known to Alex, and isn't hard to get to really. Andrew needs to know though so he can figure it out.

Well.....if it's only a couple people they can come to my house (across the street from skydome -- easy to find; follow the CN Tower). I'm actually not entirely sure how to get to Bahen Centre myself...
