no, because butterfly doesnt get a symposium add, i had this issus with my first online comp but it was set straight.
most people would call it "symple" i think where as it seems symposium but its not

I never paid alot of attention that this particular debate but I thought the decision had something to do with full dexes versus half dexes, something like butterfly and clipper set mirage don't get symposium ADDs because they are only half-dexes, or something like that.Matt Cross wrote:Butterfly doesn't get symposium add because it's too easy, not because it's not symposium. It's a little idiosyncracy of the add system.
(edit: I meant Symposium Stepping set, not necessarily a clipper-set downtime symposium mirage. I'm not certain what the status of that trick is, but as Matt Cross pointed out to me, I also don't see why that clip-set near symp. mirage shouldn't get a symp ADD if its downtime. Whatever. Anyway, like I was saying, symposium stepping set is a one-ADD set, with no symposium ADD, just one for the dex)
I thought it kind of made enough sense when expressed that way. Like, the paradox mirage in blur is a full dex, so you can have a backside symposium blur, but the first mirage, the clip-set one, has much less actual dex to it, so there is no frontside symposium blur (who here remembers pogo? ) anymore.
I think the amount of dex in a butterfly is pretty equivalent to the amount of dex in a clipper-set mirage, and so there was at least some parity in those rulings. Whatever. Like I said, I didn't pay real close attention to those issues, since I was never messing around with those moves anyway. Matt is essentially correct, though. People seemed to just basically decide that symp. butterfly was too easy to deserve to be a four, just the same way they felt that pogo tricks were similarly over-rated in terms of ADDs.
Its actually a beautiful example of the freestyle community restraining itself a little, since I always felt that most of us were all too eager to pat ourselves on the back by inflating the ADD values of the moves we were hitting, like by inventing the X-Dex ADD (a similar example: spinning used to specifically negate paradox [by the rules, a spinning move could not also have an ADD for a paradox component], but a sort of community consensus eventually decided that a move could be both spinning AND paradox, and we should award ourselves another ADD for the extra difficulty involved in moves that were both spinning and paradox). I guess I was annoyed by examples of ADD inflation, but forgetting that it sometimes goes the other way too.
Anyway, I would say that THERE IS a symposium butterfly. It just doesn't get an ADD for being symposium, and THERE IS a frontside Blur, but it also doesn't get an ADD for being symposium either.
