Hey Byrin, can't wait to hangout at SJFF. You are always fun to hang out with and always a good friend.

Less than a week. See you there! :D

Party wasn't too great. It may have been more productive if I stayed home and cleaned my messy room rather than drink and be up until 3:30 in the morning. Whatever.

Kicking with Rory in about an hour, and we're both going to take it easy. Lots of tiltless, and I will probably work on a lot of my downtime stuff that needs to be cleaned up for next weekend.

SJFF was great. Special thanks going out to Justion ans Scott for the airport trips, the Missoulla crew for hooking me up with a place to crash and Kevin Crowley for allowing me the honour of a embracing his farts with my mouth. It was so good to see people again, and meeting new people such as Emily K, Dat, Ben Skaggs, Evan Gatesman, Dylan Fry, and Gordon Bevier. I sincerely hope that I have the privilage of being able to kick with them in the near future :).

That said, I played real well on Saturday. I played well, and I played hard. I did the best I ever have done in a competition, hitting two Sick 1s (Morpheus and Big Apple), two Sick 3s (Blurry Whirl > Spinning Whirl > Mobius and Sumo > Reactor > PS Eggbeater), and also having only two drops in a Shred 30. I did not feel as anxious as I have before, which *I hope* is the result of gaining some competition experience under my belt.

I played well, and I took advantage of that for the day. Unfortunately, my knees were too sore Sunday to do any real shred and prevent me from competing in the Circle Competition. My current status:

- left knee is swollen, can not bend it completely without receiving pain and can not walk on it very well
- right knee a bit swollen, not in as rough shape as left
- pulled right groin muscle
- both calves, hamstrings and hip flexors sore
- lower/mid back pains

So I guess what I'm saying is that for the next few weeks I'm going to be finding something to replace footbag until my knees get better. This may mean that I may not be able to go to Chicago, but we will see how things are as time draws nearer.

Some of my highlights for the 6 hour shred on Saturday:

- Rubberman with Bedwetters
- Bedwettter > Pigbeater bsos a few times
- Bedwetter > Atomic Torque
- Spinning Blender > Far Swivel bsos unsealed
- Spinning Blender > Rev. Swirl x 2
- Whirlwind x 3 off the foot
- Flurricane on Nate's camera (and it looks good :D)
- Gyro Barroque > Blur > run
- a few good attempts at Alpine Predator and Blurry Symp Torque
- Mobius > Revstein, like, super close
- Pigbeater > Pixie ss DLO x 2

I'm sure I'm missing a few, but those are probably the big ones. I really can't wait until my knees are healed, beause right now I've never been so motivated to improve.

PS - Nick Landes, Ben Skaggs and Evan Gatesman. Holy fuck.

Nick Landes is so good. So consistant, and his strings are very unique. Everything about him is solid (except his weak double downs, or so he says... ;))

And yes, Morpheus is Alpine Void.

Thanks for the props :)

Knee Review:

Left knee was so incredibly weak after SJFF. I could not bend it at all and I still had to work. Last Thursday I shot some hoops and tried to use it as little as possible. The next day it, once again, felt very weak.

This week is much better. My knee is giving out an average of around 3 times a day, but so far nothing catastrophic.

Knee Status:

Feeling strong. I can just about walk normally now, though if I do not move it for some time it will become stiff and the first 5/6 steps are painful. When I go up stairs (or any other activity where I have to put weight on it) it is noticeably weaker than my right.

I'm taking Glucasmine and MSM supplements every evening, as well as eating my protein. I've started swimming to exercise and strengthen it, and then do a few quadricep stretches before I go to bed. So far so good.

I did touch a footbag, though. My entire session revolved around hitting Clipper on both sides. I'm proud to say, I hit them both on the first attempt 8) .

4 weeks since SJFF, and 4 more to go. What's footbag again?

I bought meself some goods yesterday. Christmas this year is expensive, but I think I've put more thought into my gifts than I have in previous years.

I had a company Christmas party last night. Fuck did I drink a lot. I also danced a lot, resulting in both my knees feeling sore today.

Does anybody remember way back I said I captured footage of a solo YMCA sesh? Well I put together something crappy. Here's part one of a two part mini series:

Take One

I want Kevin's juicy creative brain. And maybe better editing software. But mostly his brain.

Byrin!!
Whoa!! Your game's exploded since I saw your last video! Gah! You're like one of those new kids who'll be better than Vasek in a year!!! I can't even keep up with your ridiculously eternal run length and massive and unique moves (are those called reversivals? Swirl moves confuse me...and gyro whirling swirl to end a run?? WHAAATT??) Geezz Byrin! I get so excited to see footage of you -- you have THE most perfect style in all of footbag. Your zooming kicks ASS. You're so unstoppable!!

K, my girlfriend's parents are moving to Lethbridge, AB in the summer, and I will probably be there at least for a while...I think it's 4 hours away from ShrEdmonton...we gotta shred!!!! :D (And get that lazy bum Rob Fuller to get in on the action...he keeps telling me he wants to get back into it...)

I gotta shred now after watching those videos!!! Wow! Thanks so much for being so amazing, and for making videos!! I loved the song from your teaser video TOOONS! Yesss!!!

Thanks guys. I've been a bit down as of lately, so reading your replies picked up my spirit. It also made me want to kick again (oh shit, can't have that :/).

So not feeling too hot, but atleast today I did about 30 minutes of swimming. I can get into a squat position without any pain from my knee, so holy fuck something's healing.

I ordered a new pair of Lavers yesterday and they should be here in about two weeks. When they arrive I will have another test sesh (yes, I said another. I broke and kicked for about an hour with Rory on Friday), but I really don't expect to start going hard until into the new year. David is getting too good, and I'm getting jealous.

Part Two. I don't think it's as good though.

Hey Byrin: You are a good footbag player. Don't let it go to your head though, k? Because as good as you are right now, David Clavens makes you look like a biotch. You better heal up and represent Canada proper-like!

j/k, you're awesome. Thought you'd like to know.

Byrin Wylie is, like, the most humble guy in the whole world.

EDIT: Whoa -- those two songs worked sooo well together!! I got so distracted trying to distinguish them from each other that I lost track of the shred and now I have to keep watching it over again :p I've listened to both Enya and Prodigy for years -- so good!

Awesome shred as always, Byrin. Your pdx blenders are IMPECCABLE! And your move selection and combos are SOOOO styley. I love the [zooming] gyro clippers you do...I wanna look that good!

Jan 1st, '07

First real session since SJFF in new Lavers.

I hit a Beast, among other good stuffs.

It felt so good to be kicking again.

Jan 5th

My knee was acting up again, most likely due to work, so I did not exert myself on that side.

- Diving (Symple) Rev. Swirl
- Spinning Ducking (Symple) Rev. Swirl
- weakside Gangsta again
- PS Eggbeater > Skull Smasher
- Montage > Rev. Swirl
- Mobius > In-Mobius
- Spinning Blender > Mullet

Jan 12th

Rory's back from Chicago, and today was the first day the ShrEdmonton crew could kick together in what felt like ages. My knee wasn't too bad, but by the end they both were getting a bit weak.

- Ducking PS Egg
- Gyro Rev. Swirl > Gyro Rev. Swirl (both non-symple)
- A Beast
- Bedwetter bsos with Pdx Blender, Fog, Ripped Warrior
- Tomahawk > Spinning Whirl > Tomahawk
- Pixie Everything x 2
- Mobius > Mobius felt real solid
- Little Apple > Tripwalk
- Spinning Mirage > Slapping Whirl
- Gyro Illusion > Toe Blur

Those last three felt super cool. I would like to try more quantum stuffs when my knees get better :). Possible session with Rory Sunday morning.

Guess I can start posting here again, instead of just editing that last post :P. I think I'm going to have two sessions a week now, and see how things go. Today, despite my knees being sore yesterday, was really well. Rory and I kicked for about 3.5 hours at the YMCA.

- Ducking Pdx DLO and PS DLO (op DLOs, not new tricks though)
- Two new Beasts and had a third unsealed
- Fog > Legbeater > Bedwetter > Dimwalk x 2
- Blubberman with Bedwetters and Fogs
- Mobius > Pdx Egg bsos (felt solid)
- Vortex x 7
- Dive > Duck > Dive > Duck > Dive > Zulu > Dive > Zulu > Weave > Duck > Weave > Duck > Weave > Zulu > Weave > Zulu

Next session will probably be Friday afternoon.
