Toe curling

Post by Psilocybe »

Hi. I've been playing about half a year. I'm still wondering a few things.

I don't curl my toes. I was told that was the correct way to clipper, but I eventually learned how to clipper and butterfly by just flexing my foot. I swear theres not enough room in my shoe to curl comfortably. I asked this question on footbag.org awhile ago but not many people responded.

What is 'the'? How is something too 'the'?

When I pixie, should I have my foot completely flexed upward so its really tight and rigid? Should the dex be circular or elliptical or what? In pro videos it looks more like a kick forward.

the is a term used to describe when a dex of a trick is extremely thin or non existant (it could be near the ankle, or below it, it depends on the trick)

hope that helps ;)

In the beginning, I needed to curl my toes to clipper, but eventually through more crank I just didn't need it anymore. I don't think that it is a "proper" way, just a "helpful" way. If you can clipper without it, wy bother? However, if you are dropping the bag alot, and it's rolling off, curl the toes, and see how it changes.

Theres no one perfect way. Just find what works for you.

I used to curl my toe when i did clipper's with my right foot, because I'd sprained that ankle a few times and it was the only way I could clipper - as my ankle got stronger I made a concerted effort to remove the curl. Doing clippers without the curl actually improves your crank in the long run. Take a look at this thread http://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=12140 in which Jorden posted a pic of his clipper, note there is no toe curl. I found the best way to get a good crank is to point my toe down then twist it to raise the inside up into stalling position.
"The" refers to when you do a dex or duck but it doesn't actually go around the bag.
For pixies try this thread http://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=8031

When I started I curled my toes because I was not familiar with the way a clipper should feel, but now that I do, I don't curl my toes because it is just a waste of energy. It sounds silly saying curling your toes wastes energy because it's such a small thing, but I really noticed that I was much more relaxed when I stopped curling my toes.

I still curl sometimes if I really need to catch the bag (bad set or something), but I try to keep it at a minimum. I'd suggest doing whatever feels comfortable right now, but know that you're probably wasting some energy when you curl your toes.

Oh and Dyalan, how do you know Jorden isn't curling his toes in that picture? He's got shoes on.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

Right, I guess he could be curling his toes, but when I used to do it, you could tell because my shoe would bulge differently and my crank would not quite be right. Also you could see that the clipper wasn't relaxed in other areas of my posture. Given that there aren't any signs of anything but a relaxed, well formed clipper, I think its safe to say that its exactly that.
