need motivation

Post by gMoney »

ive been playing for about.. hm, about somewhere between 3-4 months now? and i just can't get myself to go downstairs and shred anymore :( footbags just not as fun anymore i guess. but i dont want to stop playing because im a lazy ass. i think part of the problem is that i set up a couple tough (not too hard) goals (see my blog) and i can't achieve some of them, and i get frustrated really easily (to the point where my fists turn red from punching the floor or wall) is there any method you use to motivate yourself to go out and shred when you dont want to? ive really gotten out of shape because ive gone without footbag for like 3 weeks or so. any help would be appreciated :)

Go to a footbag event. A tournament, a big jam, anything - just get together with a bunch of other excited footbag players. Your location reads "somewhere in Illinois"... I've heard rumors of some big footbag to-do in Chicago about two weeks from now. You should think about hitting that up, even if its just for one afternoon. Good luck.

One of my best motivation is a Shredmovie such as Sick03, Budasbest, Themove, The Sickening or Shredmovies from the web.

Footbag tournaments DEFINITELY help motivate. Also, just try and have some fun doing tricks you can do fairly consistently. Don't just try for hard tricks all the time. Footbag is a sport/game, it's supposed to be fun, so have fun.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

Once springtime hits there are usually lots of well sized informal footbag gatherings in the city 2-3 times a week. Hopefully CIC throws their Bday jam again this year :) that'd be worth coming to chicago for sure.

motivation  watch lots of videos when ur legs are too sore to keep kicking

Where in New York? In New York City? I can't guarantee any specific happenings in NYC in the next two weeks, but a typical NYFA jam or two are not unlikely. You can find out whats going down in New York City with the New York Footbag Association (NYFA) at our "official" web-page:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/ny ... d=89204439
Basically, every week a few e-mails get traded through this site and we poll the club to see if and when and where anybody would like to play.

If it's not New York City, but rather, New York State that you'll be visiting soon, again I ask "where?" There will be a New Years jam in Rochester, NY. Rochester is not far from Buffalo and Syracuse...

Or will you be on Long Island? Long Island makes for a relatively easy commute into New York City.

If you're in Albany or Ithica you're probably just SOL. Sorry.

uh my sister doesnt really live in new york per se, she lives in hoboken new jersey, which is literally right across the river. we're going to be there for christmas, go up skiing in vermont at killington for a couple days, then come back down for new years, then leave. we're gunna be doing stuff the whole time i'm there, and going to a jam is pretty much out of the question. dont tell me that no one has ever reconsidered their footbag career at one point or another, how else would you go about motivating yourself to play?

If it's not feasible to get to tournaments, and watching videos and skooling some fresh tricks aren't good enough to keep you motivated, and you have absolutely no friends to play with, and you're just not at all feeling it right now, you might consider a break and taking up one of your other interests for a while. Spring will come soon, and I know you'll feel like playing once that sun comes out and you can smell that warm air.

Hey man I go on footbag breaks ALL the time. In the six years that I've played footbag I've had probably about 3 years of breaktime.

Whenever I'm in a "shred slump", I like to watch Blitz's "Undefeated" video at Flipsider... It always gets my blood pumping and gets my mind in the right place for a good 2 hours or so of practice.

Whoa, another person from North Carolina! I didn't know anybody else besides my friend from school who kicks in Raleigh. O_o

Cic met James Risden IN Sugar Grove Il. The world speed consec champ. Andy Lindner (1014 kicks in 5 minutes flat, almost 4 kicks per second!!) held an event to break the worlds largest circle record there and we failed  .
But we did meet James and confirmed that his skills were real and he wasnt lying on footbag.org emaillist.

Hey, yeah people are right about videos they are great motivation for me at least. I know a way that will really get u motivated, but you probably don't want to injure yourself and not play for months. lol :D Don't always make it like a chore to play. Play because u want to. Spend some days just messin around with the bag, and if u can get some friends to play with. If you need to take some time off because i was feeling like this a few months ago and now I just want to shred.

Matt Cross, you were definately the rightest of the right. I'm getting back into it now and playing in the warm sun definately makes it 100% more enjoyable. I'm actually doing good for my first time since november or so. It is kinda weird that it's warm out today, though, considering it was like 30 degrees like a week ago. Taking a small break definately helped
