16DEC2006 0.5h - My basement
5 osis>barrage BS
5 torque>same side butter BS

flip side took a while for both combos. I wanted to play only 30 mins so that my future self would believe me when I told it I could only play 30 minutes and comply. as opposed to always playing the full hour or more.

17DEC2006
Navy Pier today
Zeke, Nathan, Al and I

Winter Wonderland was going on. Christmas trees, lights, big ass rides!, ice skating rink. Just looked then went back to footbag spot. It was ll for kids anyway. Wish I woulda gone to stuff like that when I was a litlin.

2 square and freestyle

Practiced some 5 osis>ripwalk BS, pretty easy actually. 2 Square was really fun. We alternated playing winner each time. I was playing well.

i was one contact short of rubberman one day when i tried, but I'll try it again for Dan.

Played with Kamil today, by Lane, after winning a game of 6 square with Freddy, Chris and some newbs. Kamil called one newb on not calling his score and said he was out, and the guy said, "It's my first time playing eva blah blah." So I called him out for excessive attitude.

Afterward styles with Kam and Fred. Kinda cold. Significantly dark. Didn't play well.

Then stopped by audio rental place. Shit's expensive.

19DEC2006 - Basement - .5 + .25 hr

10 sp clip>diving clp BS

Rubberman link practice lots.
Rubberman first time ever. from lft toe atom smasher. for Dan. 4 links from other side. lots of atom smasher>legbeater practice.

30 + 20 + 10 pushups. After I was gonna take a shower and noticed something weird on my shoulders - muscles! first time i noticed that. like i wasn't hunching over either. I had this feeling b4 when I was able to slightly move my pectoral muscles. It's like discovering a muscle you've never had b4. It's exactly what it is in fact.

Went by Reizeke's. Plan for New Year's Jam. Good planning. Walked through each day. Got notes. Most things wrapped up. Zazzle Claus is great!
There was a superb fog outside as I drove home. you could see ok, maybe because of street lights, but u could see fog 20 feet away. Not usual round these parts.

pretty warm lately - rainy though. New Year's Jam should be bearable - high 30's.

December 26, 2006
Jeremy, Dat, Reile and I watch a breakdancing battle at club Neo.

December 27, 2006
Holly, Brian, Mike, David W., Ianek, Seb, and Henry arrive. We play Wii at La RAZA, and also go to Villa Palermo and eat chicken fingers. I go home and go to sleep for what would be 4 hours before picking up Gray, Rory and Jessika. I only sleep 3. Day before event - Too excited?

December 28, 2006 - First day of event
Groceries with Gray, Rory and Jessika. (Always gonna use the k). To the hotel - Can check in early! Back to my sister's house near the airport, and eat breakfast. Got some time to kill before next pickups. Time comes and Kamil and I meet there. I walk into the baggage claim and see a freestyle circle with all these outtatowners kicking in pants! It was a great sight. i think it was Paul, Chris, David and Nick playing. I make a sign for Mathieu, and we wait for Mathieu and kolo to arrive.

Everyone's here we pile into cars. Paul is extra so 2 people sit up front with me. i figured people would be hungry after their flight and we didn't really have time b4 the event, so I got some muffins and oranges and bananas and juice. David holds a bag of mini muffins for me to eat while we drive 15 miles or so to the event. I drop peeps off at the entrance, and i proceed to park in a spot kamil has reserved for me. I beeped at someone trying to steal it, then realized it was FtB with Emily. The spot is hella tiny and Kamil guides me in.

At the event, I introduce myself to everyone. Kick with everyone. Zeke and Steve start to play 2 square, and i get a front row seat. I play 2 square with Steve in pants, and lose 11 to 8 - not bad. I smoke at 4 square whenever I play. I play good freestyle. I realize that everyone is really good. After this day I would be very sore everywhere.

Afterward we order pizza eat it. It is soooo good. We had so much that all 40 of us didn't finish it. Tom Mosher and Jorden arrive, and we head down to night spot. There's like 40-50 people down there all kicking. After a bit we get kicked out by the nicest security guard - we don't have as good luck as we used to. We find another spot that is completely outta the way of anybody, and get kicked outta there too. We would get a room for nighttime for the next two days. Best improvement ever.

Back at the room, we play LCR (the dice game). There was a vodka bottle shaped like a tommy gun. I sweep handstand comps with drunk John Mahood. We did a timed one and a distance one. Where's the video? Freddy u got it, pimp? It was so funny, like 15 people out in the hall and we're all ttrying to be quiet so as not to disturb other guests of the hotel, but every minute we crack up laughing, or bump into walls (John :)). it was best 2 outta 3, and on the last distance one I made it one step passed John. I hurled myself forward to make sure i won :). John continues his drunk comps by racing Scott B up 28 flights of stairs. Some of us head in the elevator and go up 8 flights, but when we arrive we find they have already passed us. We then decide to go to the top and wait, but we have to go down to the first floor and switch elevators. We arrive after the finish.

Back in the room we talk about wrestling and then go to sleep around 1AM. Considering everyone going to sleep early this night because of the long ass day (and I've only slept 3 hours), it was pretty late and we were the last people to go to sleep.

02JAN2007
Kicked with Mathieu and Kolo while dropping off Bijan @ Union Station. We got kicked out and kicked out in freezing weather. kolo's atomics are fast. Mathieu's spins are good.

I thought about schooling a component a week with some sort of goal or goals. I will get better at the structure as it goes on. This past (passed?) week was pixie, but i only actually schooled it one day. I had no goals set or anything. It did help me the next day though. Just the concentraion of clearing the bag. I was thinking of schooling it till saturday to give it proper time, but i didn't wanna start making allowances. More pressure to finish in a week.

The pixie practice helped. I played very well- long strings. I enjoyed freestyling with a circle of peers that were of a similar (in some regards) skill level. Those are the best and drive you to push urself, and train later, and also fun to watch them. Afterwards I got sick for a few days from playing in the wind and rain.

From CIC blog - my comment is a couple posts after zeke's.

08JAN2007
no play

09JAN2007
Kicked with Kamil in his basement just for fun - no serious freestyle. It's good to do that too, cuz u can mess around and try weird/ cool stuff.

This week component:
Atomic

Goal 1: all 2 combo links of rubberman BS
Goal 2: half of rubberman BS
Goal 3: rubberman BS
Goal 4: rubberman BS from all starting move (blur, atom, leg)

Anybody else wanna challenge me? Give me good drills for this week. Please do.

U of I

Post by CIC flurry »

Went down to U of I with Shawn and his woman and her 2 friends.
Eric and Reid are ridiculously good at footbag. Wish they lived nearby. They motivated me pretty well to practice. Also I never get over at how cool and super nice they are.

After we kicked and ate, we went to a sketch comedy show called 'Potted Meat'. We actually went there last time we visited too. Eric's GF, Lauren, is in the cast now, and is a pretty good actor.
After the show is the after party -> and outside these girls were like, "Oh you have beautiful hair! Can we touch it?" I considered unbuttoning my jeans, but then they started touching my hair. One girl was overwhelmed by me stared at me star eyed and said, "I'm just so happy you exist." I looked deep into her eyes as I waved goodbye.

On the way home Shawn, Diane, Aileen and I had some nice car ride conversation on the way home thta made the time go by swiftly.

Yesterday I schooled some flip DOD's to loosen up my knee to make it stop popping on atomic. Jeremy Mirken posted something about visualizing moves in ur head in detail. Though flip DOD or atom are not crazy hard for me, they are not super consistent and they are rusty. So I closed my eyes and visualized the move and it actually helped!

20 flip DOD
20 atom
2 flip DOD -> knee pop

10APR2007

Made a hot CD with fast energetic music on it: Fallout, Muse, My Chemical Romance, Postal Service, Bloc Party. Played in alley. Supposed to be cold but wasn't - boosh.

10 Gyro Mirages BS

It was quite warm in the sun, so I took my long sleeved shirt off. My friends nephews and daughter were walking home from school and saw me in the alley so they came over, and I let them play for a bit. Taught Kyle to toe stall BS! He's like 11. His younger brother was pretty good - tryin shoulder stuff and knee to foot combos - and he's like 6. They played in a cardboard box like homeless people for a bit then left.

I managed this while they were there:

50 flip whirls (less than 3 in a row didn't add into the sum) I hit 5 or 6 in a row!
10 more gyro mirage BS
20 flip DOD
10 terrage BS

After they left I backed that thang up (my car) and played inside my backyard driveway cuz my dog was outside for a bit. I used the visualization technique again. Just slow mo moves in my mind, and in real life with no bag , focus on the aspects of the move that are sticking points.

10 atom smasher BS - no flip knee problem! they were actually very easy. I just have to remember to make a good set to the side a bit, and to lift knee higher than i want to. Actually I don't have to remember shit, I just need to hit the move more, and it will be butter. I tried to beat my old record of 4 atom smashers in a row. That was years ago, when my flip atom was my good and it was leggy, at North Ave beach boat house at night - the day αΔΣΦ came out for some mixer/volleyball. Anyway, so I got to 3 and a half atom smashers. i got 3 a few times which is good!

WET DREAM - I got hella close to this @ U of I and @ Welles. I visualized the set being good and high, and that helped me focus on it.
-get a stable clipper (not rushed)
-move support leg to side fast
Of course that's the basics of a step set, and I have a good step set (even on my flip which is what I'm talking about here), but you know u mess up easy shit when ur trying for hard/new stuff. I didn't really worry about the eggbeater, cuz that's one of my best moves.
I got really close several times - and was always like "OOHH!" or "AHHH" and jumping around pretty happy, sometimes pissed cuz I shoulda got it. The music was pumping me up, and you know it's all mental sometimes. Just get your energy up - be that dope player that you sometimes are. Be like those dudes in the videos and hit whatever you want - easy and keep going. - I watched New Zealand's Best video from the Christmas calendar, and that gave me motivation and the feeling to not think of moves as hard. - So all energized up, I hit a nice good high close set and nailed it (from rt ft clp). Hand catch, yays, and 3 carthweel-roundoff-one-handed thingies. Much excitement. It didn't do much different than the other close attempts. Tried for a number 2 but no energy. Like after sex - u could go again, but you're already satisfied.

During attempts I tried more of what Mirk posted. Tried some flip blurry whirls and good side too - but easy, didn't try hard. And it worked! i still had to go early on the whirl, but i kept the set pretty relaxed. :)

I still believe that I could be the best in the world if I played more. I don't know what it'd be like to not have that thought. Back to that New Zelan's best vid. John Murphy is so good. Maybe the first time I saw terraging mirage. I always wanted to see that. Anyways, just watching them hitting all those hard moves and keep going and linking while all looking easy. I know I don't practice enough - and with consistent practice I'd be way better, but the point is the mindset. Recognize the easiness of it all, don't let your tiredness blind you. Focus. And knowing this gives you the energy.
