Today I had about a three hour session with Tom and Drew. We all played really well; Tom hit a new trick (Fear) which was awesome. I hit a few new combo's, Drew's getting really close to drifter. It was an all around good night.
I hit one of my goals of the night :
butterfly>pickup>clipper>mirage>symposium mirage

Goal for tomorrow:
one of them is in my last post
next one is.. butterfly>pickup>paradox mirage>symposium mirage>osis

weeee.

Carrie tonight played awesome. I asked her and drew tonight how long they have been playing. Its been only about 1.5 months. They both are hitting tiltless strings. They will have some sick stuff in no time. I am jealous... What I really like about there playing is that they are getting that rythym that footbaggers get with stringing tricks. Especially carrie. If worlds is in Florida this summer, I think the other shreditas should start to get nervous... I get almost as much satisfaction seeing both progress and hit new tricks strings as they do I think.

A student is only a reflection of the teacher! :) Thanks for all of the encouragement, although I don't think I'll be prepared for worlds this year; Maybe in another year or so. :D I would, however, like to go as a spectator. Should be a good time.

So last night was absolutely beautiful out so Tom, Drew, and I played outside for a bit. Earlier in the day Drew and I made a treck into center city and played for about an hour and a half in this plaza that has all these over-sized game pieces...and we played on top of these 2 checker pieces (mine was kinged so slightly higher off the ground) :) It gave a confined area to play in to work on control. was a really good session though.
Then later in the night we met up with tom and played for another hour or so...my legs almost fell off but it was one of the most productive sessions I've had. I hit much longer strings that usual even threw some flipside stuff in there.
One string in particular that I liked was
butterfly>paradox mirage>clipper>toe>mirage>symposium mirage>osis>drop
I drilled clipper>op pickup>ss clipper>op pickup which was good.
dunno. Looking forward to the sesh. This weekend though with:
Tom, Drew, (This guy Hobbes we played with for the first time on Tuesday) Chris Miller, Jon Schneider, myself, and possibly Josh Benham
Should be awesome!

So today was great. five hour session at temples newest shred spot. Second floor student center. I walked around this building the other day and couldn't find a nice spot except this wide ahllway outside a lobby. Then I talk to drew and carrie and they said they were in some room with a glass ceiling. I am on the third floor on the phone with drew, I see a room below me and some people through a glass ceiling then there I see john schnedier shredding. It was very cool view, seeing footbag from 20 feet above is different than eye to eye. We had an awesome time. Everyone tore it up, and chris miller made me this wacky bag that has no color pattern. very sick! After the shred we went to geno's to get cheese steaks. Chris inhaled his before we even got to the line to get our drinks. I asked him how it was he said it was ok. He said he could get something like that in DC. Ten minutes later he is in line to get another. I think that tells you what philly knows about cheesesteaks. It was a good day. I think everyone should travel to philly, for the footbag and apres footbag cheesesteaks.

Yeah so today's sesh. was absolutely amazing! Me, Drew, Tom, Hobbes, Chris Miller, And Jon schneider! It was awesome!
First, I'd like to take the time to say that I was thoroughly impressed with Jon Schneider....he has an awesome style and can just hit ridiculous tricks...all clean. I admire him.
Second, the rest of us played really well. Tom was hitting a lot of awesome strings...I think we all hit some new tricks today which was also awesome...Drew hit Drifter a couple times which was cool...chris was learning wonton....
I think tonight was a breakthrough for me.. I hit
Clipper>cloud del>mirage first try....
then a few more times pretty consistantly.
I also finally got my osis's down really well so they look real clean like they are supposed to. My strings were longer in general which made me pretty happy. I was pretty much freaking out by the end how awesome the day was...then to top it all off chris, Tom, Drew, and I all went to Geno's to get cheesesteaks...they were delicious. :)
oh and just as a side note we found this sick shred spot...It's inside but has a glass roof and wall....to the outside. and it's carpeted which is really nice compared to the nasty tile we've been playing on...made it a little easier on the leggies!
woohoo. had an awesome time. g'night. It's my bedtime.

yesterday Tom, Drew, and I had a sesh...prob about 2 hours or so...
We all played pretty well...my hip has been hurting so I couldn't rly play too hard but I managed to hit illusion a few times, and dragon which are new for me. I also hit pixxie rly well...once.

Drew did awesome...saw a ton of progress...started hitting left flip osis, flip mirage, and flip clipper rly rly well! Hit illusion midstring..He also started trying different combo's...It was quite awesome!

Tom hit clipper>ducking>pradox flail which was ridiculous. And some other stuff I don't really remember. Also incorporated fear into a few strings. Altogether pretty good night.

Ok so I haven't posted on here in almost 2 weeks.

anywho..I had a three hour sesh. today with Chris Balch. It was the first time I've played with him, and I was very impressed. Seems like a really cool kid...has a really cool style and super clean dexes. I hope to play with him a bit more b4 I go back to school.

I was pretty rusty in the beginning because I hadn't played for like a week and a half (except last night), but I started to warm up a bit after a little while. I hit some ok strings...nothing to awesome. I was getting really frustrated because I was having a hard time hitting xbd rake...which is usually cake for me. *shrugs* oh well.

Chris had me try a few new combo's that I hit:
clipper>mirage BSOS (I know in passed posts it says I've hit this but it was really clipper>toe>mir I was just stupid and didn't know any better.)
Mirage BSOS
These were helpful because I desperately need to work on flipside tricks!

I'm also getting flip osis pretty well! :)

Chris was playing really well...hit a lot of things that I can only hope I'll be able to hit one day. 41 consecutive ATW weakside...alternating direction, which was incredible. Particularly, I thought the phasing and nucleus sets were awesome! He also hit a bunch of three dex tricks, and some other tricks that I don't even know the names of yet heh
Hopefully we'll be playing again Wednesday with Drew K. whose coming up from Pheonixville to visit.

I played about an hour today by myself, but it was very productive.
I finally got the hang of Pixie. I've been trying to grasp the concept for like a month now. I can finally hit pixie>toe now no problem.
Lately, I've been focusing on transitioning between different tricks and drilling smaller tricks instead of new, bigger tricks. Especially bc I'm only like 2-3 months into my game.

Today I hit a lot of easy but new combo's and a few from yesterday:

clipper>rake rpt. both sides
worked on Clipper>mirage Both sides
butterfly mid-string (usually I start with it)
anything into legover (legover has always been a problem for me)
drilled left osis

Hopefully I'll work on these a but more....then shred sesh with Drew K. n Chris B. on Wednesday.

yupp same side! :) I can't hit it every time, especially weak-side, but I managed to get it a few times; it's just awkward for me because I'm not used to it.

so I take it Wednesday plans are on then? ^_^ I'm pretty excited.

k so Wednesday shred at Chris B's house was a lot of fun.
It ended up being Chris Balch, Benny Kellman, Drew Martin, Drew Krause, My friend Sean (who we exposed to footbag for his first time), and myself.

Played for about 4 hours.
Benny seems like he's a very innovative player, which was really cool. I was really impressed by the control he has....He juggled 3 bags too; It was awesome. :)
Drew M. is also really good, was hitting some sick strings.
Chris B. played really well, again super clean dex's. :) Also very helpful in giving tips.
Drew K. did awesome...I saw a lot of improvement especially on flipside since the last time I saw him. He's really getting the hang of hitting drifter mid-string.
Sean-it was day 1 for him (no hackey sack experience), but made a significant amount of progress throughout the day. I see a lot of potential in him if he sticks with it!

I felt I played pretty strongly. I hit some longer strings then usual. They had me work some more on hitting tricks flipside; BSOS seemed to be the ringing anthem by the end of the day. Thanks guys! Then, after a long day of footbagging goodness, Drew, Sean, Chris, and I all went out for pizza to feed our growling stomaches. Yumm!
Looking forward to shred on the 6th with Chris Balch, Drew Krause, Tom Stepek, and Jon Schneider.

Your strings are getting alot better, you seem to be hitting more of your tricks in mid string, rather than starting with certain stuff and ending always the same way, great job! BSOS is improving alot! By the 6th you need to have Pixie down! It was def. better than the previous time i'd seen you attempt. Keep shredding!

mm..not so much. We'll see.
mtoolan wrote:I've worked out this kind of drilling regimen. I have a cd playing and each move gets its own song. It goes like this:

Song 1: Kicking
Song 2: ATW
Song 3: Flip ATW
Song 4: Legover
Song 5: Flip Legover
Song 6: Mirage
Song 7: Flip Mirage
Song 8: Clipper
Song 9: Flip Clipper
Song 10: Butterfly
Song 11: Flip Butterfly
Song 12: Kicking
Song 13: Stretching

And once I dial one move I'll replace it with another. Except for the kicking and stretching. Also, all the songs are 5+ minutes so they all get a good amount of time. I plan to do this 1 or 2 times a day. Then I can move on to bigger and better moves and start forming some good lines.
So I adopted this idea from Mike Toolan..and let me tell you I only started using it today, and it's already improved my game by leaps and bounds. I tweaked it a little bit here and there, but it's pretty much the same. Lately I've been having a hard time motivating myself to try flipside/foundation tricks and this helped out with that so much! I figured I'm still early on in my footbagging career :) so I better start on flipside now. So today I hit a plethora of new things.
2 consecutive flip mirages
7 consecutive clippers
3 consecutive flip clippers
clipper>op clipper rpt.
hit flip butterfly every try.
rev. atw bs
pickup>ss legover>op pickup>ss legover
I even hit toe>ducking clipper a few times...first ducking trick!

I also played with a new bag I made. It may have had a bit to do with my progression as well. It's perfect for me. Perfect weight, fullness, n stickyness! :)
I liked this drill idea so much that I even wrote Mr. Toolan a thank you note in his blog lol.

So I had an awesome New Years, I went to a party in Brooklyn at the Hook. I was really crowded but I had so much fun; I was even sober the whole night. It was really nice to chill n dance with my NYC dance crew (H.I.D), it's been awhile, since I've been at school in Philly.
Anywho, played today for about 2 hours today. Was a little rough since my muscles were still sore from dancing on new years, but still rather productive.
It took me a good hour of warming up to start getting in the groove of things cuz I hadn't played since Friday :-/. 8O
I hit:
clipper>legover BS
clipper>pickup BSOS
butterfly BSOS
drifter for the first time
mirage>symp. mirage>osis>pickup
more shred tomorrow.
