Study abroad can be a very valuable, fun experience. I would highly recommend that if you decide to study abroad in a country that does not speak English, that you study the language ahead of time and study hard. Being in another country can rapidly accelerate your learning, but you will learn that much faster if you have a solid base to work from. The better you speak a language, the more you will get out of the experience of being there.
You may also want to consider the footbag scene in the country you visit. Being in a new environment can be stressful (even when it is fun), and having people to footbag with can really ease the transition. It also often provides you with an automatic set of friends.
My last piece of advice is that if you do study abroad in a country where people don't speak English well, is that you make a point to make friends with the locals, and don't spend all your time with other Americans in your program. Take advantage of your time abroad by actually experiencing the "abroadness."

If you decide to come to Sydney or Melbourne there are a few shredders either studying or who will have just finished, that will be able to show you around.
Kurt Alford just finished 6mnths exchange at the University of Sydney (I think he was from a uni in Indiana - I can't remember), and I think you'd be able to find him somewhere on the footbag.org forums. He used it as a base to see the sights and travel 'round Australia, I bumped into him at uni a couple of months ago so we managed to get in some shred too. HE'd be able to give you a good assessment of what you'd need to know, and the various pros and cons.

I'm currently in my 4th month of being in Germany, as a high school exchange student from Canada. Given, that is not university, I believe I have the most up-to-date information on what it feels like, why I did it etc...
Because it's impossible to list all the reasons TO do it, PM me (or write here..Whatever) on any questions you'd have. The more the merrier.

I highly recomend studying abroad.
All the things ken said are pertinent and worth noting and remembering.
And learning languages is fun! yankees are afraid of it but I totally swear it's enjoyable.
You will be a more complete and less naive person with each new experience, and studying abroad is jam packed with new experiences.
Pick a sweet place and giver!

living in MT, you should know Jeremia and Evan, of whom i believe are willing to share some of their impressions of their trip through the world (or was it 'only' europe?), even if it was a fun trip only (of which i'm not sure).
Personally i would highly appreciate the opportunity to live for some time in a different country, even if there's a different language necessary to be learned.
I went to Paris for one week in november, having very little knowledge left from schooltime. Although it was kind of a shame realizing the lack of knowledge, I appreciated the little conversations in french with footbag people I had. And believe me, parisians speak a hard slang!
Do it! You won't regret making unexpected experiences.
edit: i would pick denmark in summer! visit the euros in vienna
