Outdoor Shred Appreciation

Post by Sporatical_Distractions »

As winter reaches its halfway point, all I can think about is shredding outside. With the abundance of snow layering the ground and jack frost nipping at my fingertips I am forced to enter the indoors for shred. Spring thaw will bring a smile to my face as I wander out into the great outdoors to play footbag with the sun shining on my sweat covered skin. The birds will be singing about spinning butters and ps whirls...not to find a mate like many so called "scientists" believe.

Outdoors-concrete=looovvee.

So much better than inside, I get more tired quicker inside.

And I shred better in the cold.

Unless one had a shred mat like they sell at PF, I like to shred inside where the shock from jumping up and down is dimished. I'm against cruelty to knees.

Indoor (house) shred sucks pancreas. Outside feels free.

I live in Texas so I pretty much only shred outside, all year round (although when it's 104 degrees during the summer, I shred in the shade). This past weekend it was 65 degrees F (like 18 Celsius) outside and we had a jam. Some of us jumped in the river to cool off. It was great. I love shredding outside in the winter here. Last winter was when I first got lavers and got into footbag. The weather is just cold enough that you don't sweat too much, really invigorating. It's kind of like fall up north. What I love about outside shred: drinking water from water fountains, checking out the babes that walk by, cool breezes refresh you in between runs, and jumping in the pool/river/lake post shred to cool off.

Being one of those Crazy canadian people, I'm still shredding shirtless in 1-4 ish degrees (35 fahrenheit or so)...

I just turn on some Jorden session in my room, and shred until I am nice and loose, then I go outside and try and hit the biggest strings possible, and if successful, then I am warm enough for the next hour and a half. But when I come inside my hands are bitter cold..

Todays the last day of school, and I technically don't have to go for various (legal..) reasons, the only reason I am going is to shred on their "playground" surface..It's this weird Red spongy stuff, that is comparable to the cushyness of carpet, and the traction of concrete. I absolutely love it...

Outside shredding is 10x better than shredding inside, cold or not.
Summer shred is still the best time of the year...

yeah, some of my best sessions have begun with moving snow out of the way. my coldest session on record so far this year was like mid 20s. however, when it isnt necessary, i prefer to play indoors. i like having food, drinks, bathroom, tv, and internet access nearby, and i like carpeting.

but natural outdoor lighting is much better.

I shred inside 7 days a week. Its either too hot outside or too cold. Inside is always perfecto, no cars, no distractions, just me and my booming speakers and my footbag. Though. drawbacks, last month i stepped on my guitar after hitting a difficult trick not noticing it was there, and my jack went into the pickgaurd snapping it and rendered my electronics to not work. basically a hole in my fucking guitar right where youre supossed to plug it in. D: arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

outdoor is best... I love it best in the middle of fall and early spring when the air is crisp, and I can shred hard for a long time before even breaking a sweat.

I just love to be out in the air with the plants and animals enjoying the world while it's beautiful with people all around and the sun in the sky. That is when I love shred the best.

That might because cold air is denser than hot air. Which allows you to intake a higher amount of oxygen per square inch. That in turn feeds your muscules with more oxygen allowing you to perform better. Your car should run faster 1/4 mile times in cold weather for the same reasons. I know my car hauls in winter, well it hauls in summer too but more in winter. And since it's got a carborator and not FI I can adjust the fuel to air ratios and really make it haul!

Oh and I like playing outside, and practicing inside. But more so outside.

Winter shred rocks here. It doesn't really rain that much, never snows. Is sometimes cold but once you're warmed up it's no problem at all. It's summer shred that sucks here... like someone said up above, 104 F +

But it's light till like 9pm, which is good for shredding after work :D Need to get lights for winter... note to self...

I don't have anywhere to shred inside at home anyway.

I think there's ups and downs to both. I personally prefer shredding outside. It's a little tough on the body (esp. for symp. tricks), but there's something about fresh air, and the interaction with the public that I love. I just started playing this fall (therefore I cant rly compare it to playing during other seasons), but I found playing in cooler weather (like 60-65 n sunny) is really nice; the sun and the hustle-and-bustle of the campus and center-city is just a nice, more free environment to play in.

Since it's really cold out now, me and 2 friends I play with at school found a really sick inside shred spot. It's a large enough area, carpeted (which is nice because of shock absorption), glass ceiling and it's kinda on the corner of a building so it has 2 glass walls to the outside! It's as close to playing outside we're going to get I think throughout the winter season. :) Idk just my thoughts.

The worst part about shredding outdoors in Australia, as best as I could tell, were the swarms of flies that try and get in your mouth when playing. :?

I definitely think outdoor shred is the best for several reasons. One of those reasons is exposure; you are more likely to have random passersby stop and watch, or just see pretty girls walking by.

I'm really lucky that I have such a kick-ass indoor spot at college (same place we held the Cornell Footbag Jam). That said, I got to play outside today in Arizona, and it really felt great.

agreed, flies taste like crap when you swallow them. That's probably the only positive of the drought, less flies :)

I can't wait till the spring/summer to shred outside!! I started shredding in October, so haven't really had as many chances as I'd like to shred outside :(

When the weather gets nice out again, myself and 2 fellow shredders plan on shredding all over Philly, Love Park, Penn's Landing :D, Center city! damn, I can't wait :P

The only thing that sucks around here, is for the past couple years there is no spring-like weather. the temperature seems to go from winterish-cold to summerish blazing hotness! I won't let that stop us though!
