who would win the donkey race? (possiby offensive)

Post by Brad_R »

So who would win a race across the desert on a donkey, Jesus or Budda? Budda has his sleak areodynamic baldness, while Jesus has that unrully beard. However, budda is quite fat. Does the cheer of the crowed affect the will of either Jesus or Budda and the donkies they ride? I don't know much about buddhism, but the crowed at the finish line for Jesses would be looking forward to some free bread and booze. Budda on the other hand, what I can only assume, perhaps would ask people for some food at thefinish line. I wish I was more cultured in the dark arts of religion to further this debate of mine. Any takers.

It would depend on the donkeys.

yeah, I'll give Jesus the fact that he has riding experience; but what if Budda's donkey has a racing stirpe. Also what if budda's donkey is a super donkey, ie, a donkey with a shaved ass as to prevent dingelbaries from forming so that donkey can run faster and jump higher. However, this could make the donkey harder to ride. Damn it! The debate is still up in the air.

I know Jesus's parents were crusing around on donkeys for ages, but Buddah has been chillin' in the hood for many years - longer than Jesus (if I'm not mistaken). I would figure Buddha might have picked up some donkey riding experience even before Jesus was born.

Therefore I still say it's down to inidivdual donkey lineage

The Buddha is not fat. Just like how Jesus isn't white... It's only a representation of him. Sometimes he is portrayed as a big fatty. Before he achieved enlightenment though, he was so skinny that you could see his spine by looking at him from the front, as legend has it. That was back in the days when he was eating one grain of rice per day for, I believe, six years. I'm not sure about that though...

Considering the environment that Siddhartha Guatama grew up in and the years following his enlightenment it is very unlikely that he would have a big gut. I don't know why he is sometimes represented that way...

yeah you're right. buddha isn't fat. i remember in history class we had to learn about him, he lived in the mountains as an ascetic for a number of years to try and achieve enlightenment, so he was pretty much not eating at all. and since buddhism is all about not having material desires, he wouldn't be fat. the fat buddha or the laughing buddha is the chinese form of buddha; buddha was infact indian. the fat buddha you always see is a representation of a medieval chinese monk and isn't technically an image of buddha, although most people are ignorant and think "that's buddha." so end of story, buddha isn't fat, the fat buddha is the chinese monk who was supposed to succeed buddha and become the next one. buddha isn't fat.

what did i say before? that's a fat chinese monk that was supposed to succeed him, but most people just recognize him as buddha. how that happened, i don't know, it's like the americanized version of stuff: fake. Siddhartha Guatama wasn't fat. and whether he won the race or lost he would still be happy because that's pretty much what buddhism is all about, kind of.

I heard somewhere that he didn't eat for like 2 months and meditated under a tree.

well he might have meditated under a tree, i mean it's possible, he meditated in a lot of places probably, one of those could have been a tree i guess. and as far as the not eating part goes, i dont know if it was 2 months or two days, all i know is that he did become a fasting ascetic and almost starved himself to death, but he realized that starving himself still did not make him truly happy, so he started eating again.

jump subject, but I find the one in the post above very interesting. But I heard that you can tell if someone is a true buddhist if they have no statures of him at all. Perhaps becaue of the resons brought up in this post.

I've seen plenty of skinny buddhas. Just not in America. Hahahahaha. Gee I wonder why.
Anyway, what would you consider a true buddhist? There have been so many buddhists building giant statues around the world.
I was more interested in talking about buddha than the donkey race, which is why I replied.

It's my understanding that Buddhism is a way of life and should not be considered a 'religion'. This is especially true as there are many degrees to being a Buddhist.

Yes I also heard its not a religion because Buddha isn't a God.
